This was my life for over 30 yrs. Lost everything and everyone. Im 57, and just celebrated 1 year clean & sober. Thank you Lord. And thanks to you guys for all you do....❤
The album this song is on can be played all the way through. It is great. But, In Color, is one of the all time best country songs ever. I hang right up there with He Stopped Loving Her Today. In color is a must listen!
This song tells the story of a man making some bad decisions. Johnson commented on his website that he "believes this can happen when people are hurting and can go from bad to worse if they don't receive the help they need.". Johnson co-wrote this song with James Slater, whose other credits include Rascal Flatts' "Unstoppable." Even though this cut was never a hit, the song's subject matter has spoken to fans struggling with addiction issues. Slater explained to The Boot the story behind the song: "I had that title, 'The High Cost of Living Ain't Nothing Like the Cost of Living High,' for about a year and a half. Jamey and I had become friends at the time. I thought, 'That's the guy I gotta write it with.' I thought maybe he had a little experience in that. So I called him one day, and thankfully it was right before he was about to start making his album. He came over to the house. It took us about two sessions to write it. He took it home and came back, and I'll never forget the day he came back. He goes, 'Man, I gotta show you something.' He said, 'I put this part in the third verse about cocaine and a whore.' And he said, 'There goes our No. 1 single!' I said, 'You know, Jamey, I just trust you. Let's just run with it and make it real.' And in hindsight that was the best thing that could have happened, because maybe it wasn't a No. 1 single, but I'll tell you, we've gotten so many great letters and press about that song and it is real, and it really hits people right. I think it's nice to have certain songs that are just right there. So many people have come up and said to me, 'Wow, that was me 10 years ago,' or 'that was me four years ago.' So I'm real happy with that song. When you get together with Jamey you don't know what you're gonna get! He's a bright guy, he's smart, he's different. And that's what I embrace. I grew up in Central America ... I'm not your typical songwriter, my past is a little different, so I really embrace anything different. And Jamey Johnson's the real thing. So, 'High Cost of Living' was awesome to write!" (Songfacts.com)
before Chris Stapelton, there was Jamey Johnson. and I believe he's talking about the cost of being famous and drug addiction that he went through in personal life
Wow, First time listening to Jamey Johnson. Almost 32 years sober and the line ain't worth the cost of living high just punched me in the gut. What a great message to put out there for the suffering.
Hi guys. Not your first time with jamey. Think about him and his guitar alone sittin on a stool, surrounded by photos all over the floor. Singing that you should have seen it in color.
Jamey johnson is amazing. That lonesome song, can't cash my checks are good songs to. I love his cover of lynyrd skynyrds four walls of raiford is great. His song lead me home will make you cry
That albums one of the best of the decade!!! He does some of Waylon’s songs. Check out The Door Is Always Open which is one of Waylon’s. Place At The Ocean. Last Cowboy Song
Jamey Johnson has some of the best story telling songs out there today. He has one of the best voices in outlaw country in my personal opinion. He did an album of nothing but covers of older country songs and it's a banger!!
Strong message. I was in prison in Texas, three times, visiting my brother. Texas ain't no joke. Drive sober or else. Lead Me Home, good song. Thanks for this one.
Right at the end as the music fades you can hear him singing 'Dreaming My Dreams With You'. Another brilliant song, written for Waylon Jennings in 1958.
This is what country was supposed to be close to true life This song is based on his real life with drugs if you're looking for good songs you wouldn't have never got out Thank you guys for your reaction
Well, unless this was recorded before Nov, this is NOT a new artist alert. :p You guys already did In Color by Jamey Johnson and uploaded it near the end of Nov. Still a good, thought provoking song.
I absolutely love Jamey Johnson - impressed with the picking of this song! A huge thank you to you both for your sheer dedication to uploading and making people happier; you always make me smile, and your appreciation for different music styles is astounding! I would absolutely love to see you react to Elbow as their songs really mean a lot to me and I think they're a little different from what you might usually react to. Some brilliant ones are One Day Like This, My Sad Captains, Friend of Ours and Grounds For Divorce. We're still relatively close to the New Year so I wish you all a fabulous 2023. Stay happy and healthy! ♥
Youve already done Jamie Johnson...In Color...one about the WW2 vet talking about the war and his life to his grandkid, about his pictures.. "You shoulda seen it in color".
They did that November 23, 2022 :) So not that long ago, but in the grand scheme of things at 3 songs a day, which is 90-93 songs a month, plus any they have to re-do because they get taken down, plus 4-8 movies a month... It's a lot to keep track of. :)
Effing KILLER singer/songwriter! He co-wrote George Strat’s Give it Away. There’s an awesome version of him singing that live in front of a host of country heavy hitters out there on TH-cam.
Jamey is a great artist, for the most part unknown. If you wanna really cry, listen to his song “In Color”. Also the part where he’s singing “I’ll always miss dreaming my dreams with you” is his version of Waylon Jennings version of “Dreaming my Dreams”.
He does serious justice to Waylon's version of that song in his cover. Jamey is awesome. I also love his "cover" of George Straits Give it Away (not really a true cover since it was a live show and Jamey actually wrote the song) which he performed with LeAnn Womack at the George Strait - Artist of the Decade concert. He has a couple great duets with Alison Krauss too.
Jamie is a great songwriter, and at times performs his own songs..other times an artist picks his songs, example, George Strait.." GIVE IT AWAY". Jasmine was a decade before the Great.. Chris Stapleton...so similar, the only thing that seperates them is the suits in Nashville.
It's true the sound is different. His voice is even different. And his look is different. But you guys have heard him before. In Color was the first song you experienced.
Hes not a new artist to ur channel. U already did his song "(Shoulda seen it) In Color". The guy in the video, being released from jail, is the actor Cliffton Collins. He also directed the video for "Chicken Fried" by the Zac Brown Band
Give Whiskey Myers’s a try. Broken Window Serenade or Stone. Jamey Johnson is a great song writer and those he chooses to record are usually great. In Color is one of the best songs out there.
If you want to check out a classic country male voice and have a chuckle at the same time, check out David Frizzell’s song I’m Gonna Hire A Wino (to decorate our home). It’s about a wife who is frustrated because her husband always stops at the bar after work and is consequently late so she decides to recreate the bar in her house so he’ll come straight home. You will appreciate the very cleverly written lyrics and the twangy “old country” sound.
Jamey’s voice is so sexy! Love how they didn’t show his face until he got on stage! Yelp gotta go see him in concert. Seeing Chris Stapleton with George Straight July 29th in Nashville!👏👏😍😍Thanks for sharing.👍🏻❤️

If you lie Jamey's voice you will also love Trace Adkins Ladies Love Country Boys ( Official Music Video ) And Josh Turner Why Don't We Just Dance ( Official Music Video) . I saw Trace in concert in Atlantic City @ 2000 he open for Tim McGraw that was one great concert.
Y'all listened to him a month or so back and even cried. The song was "In Color". He is fantastic.
Yep, Jamey got the double new artist bell ring :)
Awesome track! Peace, Love!!
They're not very invested or interested in the music or the talent, only their "reaction" roleplay. Chair wiggling for dollars.

Not actually a "new" artist. You did his song "In Color" in November. This song is from 2009. "The Dollar" is another one of his big hits.
Yep I thought they did
That caught me off guard when they said that too. They react to so many musicians it's understandable that they forgot.
"The Dollar" is one of my all time favorites
I personally think many of the songs on his B&W are a lot better than these songs.
@@Gutslinger "That Lonesome Song" is incredible...!
