No problem Andy, yes that is an AC box...I want to warn against familygokart.com though. I will be making a video next season about that company. It wasn't the bike, but side panels they couldn't get right. I spent close to $350 and they never got my order right and didn't care. Get the bike from them, but don't expect them to help you with anything else.
@@kachiskid Absolutely agree 👏 bought a 150cc eagle from them came severely damaged by shipping its been 2 months and no replacement parts. No one answers the phone or replies to emails 🙄 😒 😕 😑
I feel like the gy6 is an awsome place to learn. How to ride, repair and mod. A low initial purchase price, cheap plentiful parts, well known upgrades, and opportunities to repair. Overall a great place to learn and enjoy.
I have the same, but in 125cc, very little is different, really (since I have also the 50cc version anyway...)... Very dependable since 10years in a row. A fire broke out 2 months ago, cause some main cables were worn down (!!!), but the engine hasn´t had any problems yet. Now, I replaced the 2-3 easily accesible cables that were molten, and the plastic fairing piece, that was also molten, and everything is like new... Just one big complaint: 1year in, I tried to take off the 2 main variomatic nuts (on the front and rear variomatic-axles), and it was impossible, cause the nuts were fused with the axles, by corrosion... I filed down the nuts off the axles while the engine was turning the axles, and somehow, I took the nuts off, but was really very-very difficult, I was even lucky that it worked out at all !!! If i´d have failed, and had destroyed the crankshaft´s threaded end, I´d need to replace the crankshaft, in other words, the bike would have been useless...
@@klausbrinck2137 So far my experience has been similar in that it's a bunch of small mainly material issues. Vaccum lines, I just switched mine out with some from a local autoparts store. Took maybe 15 minutes tops to do the whole job. Most of the time infact was in pulling and installing the seat bucket/panel alignment.
@@klausbrinck2137 I too expected a much worse time. With the things other people say on the internet. And the rock bottom prices. Worst time I've had with mine was due to shipping damage. Nothing on the scooter it's self. Overall I'd say it's like getting something good used. A few small issues and some maintenance. Fit and finish is off in much the same way as a good used scooter.
For what it's worth here goes my 2 cents! Be aware that this, well done, test. Show you which CDI will provide better better advance and consecutively lower end power... Although it is not showing which CDI is providing the best top speed. Without the advantage of testing. I have a hunch that the best top speed is probably from the orange CDI, if all else is equal. Depending on your needs and usage the preference might change a lot! Worth mention that on a first stage keeping an eye on your spark plug condition is totally justifiable. Much higher spark advance will induce higher temperatures, etc. specially if running a relatively lean mixture! So pay attention to those details so you don't end up with a seized engine! ;-) Cheers
0:53 no, the rev limit is normaly based on the capacitor in the CDI hence its name Capacitive Discharge Ignition. The rpm is limited by how fast the capacitor can recharge. (Unless there is a secondary mechanical governor for some weird reason)
@@kachiskid it's because the ignition advance at low RPMs (and of course before the motor starts) is too much,it's 25º BTDC instead of the stock 10º BTDC; there are videos here with the values, they are radically different; but after 3000 or 4000 RPMs, all CDIs are the same (of course,or else the motor would self destroy due to detonation from the low grade gasoline). edit; see "Project tao tao : 50 cc Scooter... I'm a new subscriber I was wondering what the brand of that blue CDI box was that you had just wondering you got some good videos Man really appreciate them thanks
Well Andy welcome to the Kachi's Kid family, I really appreciate the kind words and support. The CDI name brand is GOOFIT. I have done business with them before and they make some decent products. The link for the CDI is in the description of this video.
No problem Ripe, video took a lot of work but it was worth it. Yeah for $10 you can't beat the gains, looking forward to seeing what it does to my top speed now. Coming soon.
I have a 2020 hawk 250, and I just bought one of those blue aluminum CDI Boxes with the wire pigtail. I noticed it kinda ran out of power at the top end with the main jet richer (I could get a couple more mph with the stock one held at WOT on the same roads on the same night, I swapped back and forth a couple times to confirm) and about the same with the main jet leaner. The blue box idled better than the stock box which idled the same after idle mix was adjusted for more air to make it leaner. Thought it was kinda weird so ended up hooking a timing light to it and checked how the spark plug was firing at idle and revved up. The stock one held right at the "F" mark on the flywheel which was about 15-20 deg advance from TDC, and when revved up increased the advance to about 50 degrees above the idle advance, reaching that max advance at maybe 6k. The blue box was just constantly at 55 degrees advanced from the F mark, so about 70-75 degrees total advance at all times. In short, the stock CDI on a hawk is at about 15-20 degrees of advance at idle and ramps up to about 65-70 as you rev up to somewhere around 6k. The blue aluminum CDI is constantly at 70-75 degrees regardless of where you are in the rev range. I wasn't super scientific about it and I was using a harbor freight timing light (my advance degrees are based on the knob on the back) so don't take these as exact numbers. Also my blue CDI had a green LED if that matters for anything.
I also have an exhaust, nibbi pe28 carb w/pod filter, nibbi yellow coil with MSD boot, and the NGK iridium plug at stock gap as far as performance mods with sprockets 16 front/40 rear. I'm light so I can get some more top speed out of the ratio slightly taller than the typical 17/45 everyone with these bikes runs. I can cruise 65-70 mph with an oil cooler, top out about 75 on flat ground.
Great write up. I think if you got 20 different ones, they would do 20 different things. I'm not even sure how they are rated against the cc's of the bike. I hear many people complain that it does very little for a 50cc bike, kinda hit or miss. You engine is a 229cc and possibly the CDI isn't regulated for above a 150cc. Bro, if you filmed this process and posted it, it would appreciated by many. Have you thought of it?
Thanks, I saw that 49cc scooter guy you mentioned in another comment actually did the timing light test better than I did though. I found out the timing light I used reads for a car engine that fires only overy other time it hits TDC. The hawk even though it's 4 stroke fires the spark like a 2 stroke and I assume other CDI bikes do too, so my readings for timing advance are doubled. Just divide all the numbers except the rpm by two for more accurate info.
Going back to what you said I don't really have an indication that there's a rev limiter on my stock CDI but maybe some other bikes do. I've throttled it up to over 9k by not paying attention when I had a sprocket setup closer to the stock 15/50 with just a 46 on the rear and 1st/2nd gear would rev out super fast. I wonder if people who see big benefits with the racing CDI have a worn out or defective stock one that doesn't give enough advance or misfires. In that case at least it's a cheap replacement.
So question, when I get parts of upgrades. Should I only go with racing performance parts vs high performance. After what we saw here? Knowing these will probably come at a higher price. But I don't want to waste my money. Please let me know what you think. I keep looking back to your videos, for ideas. Not that I don't have any of my own 😂
I truly think those are just "selling words". I would stick with quality parts, so I linked with a name-brand, Taida. If I were to do it all over again, I would go with Taiwanese parts.

I have one that goes in directly under the tank but it is not allowing the fuel to flow. Is there anything I can use to bypass this petcock? Big shout out kachi's kid awesome vids!! I have the same bike and stumbled on your vids big help. I put the blue cdi in my stock lancer and it helped with takeoff a little not as much as yours. Problem is I have to kickstart now. Any ideas on a fix? It would be much appreciated.
Thanks a bunch Jake. Hmmmm...that is a bit odd. So if you go back to the stock CDI it starts up with no problems? How many miles do you have on the bike?
I think I bought the same CDI box, blue aluminum housing made by New Racing says rpm limit up to 11,000rpm. The scooter doesn't go much faster maybe around 32mph. Should I be getting more speed from it? Btw, I have the Wolf Islander50cc moped. thanks
To tell you the truth, you might be wasting your time. I have heard that they don't make many increases on a 50cc much at all. Of course I don't have one (50cc) so it is just what I have heard. They also say, they aren't all the same, even if the color of the housing is. My suggestion is this, use the heck out of Amazon...buy 4 different ones (red, gold, purple) a little testing and keep the best one.
That might be super complicated to do, but not a bad idea. This has been a 4 years project. Everything has been changed, and more to go. Sounds like a good "viewer asks" episode during the winter.
What difference does it make that your running an automatic engine and not shifting through the gears hitting the red line on each gear in an automatic your trying to get to the red line or am I overthinking it? All 3 of my bikes are geared so would this benifit a geared bike better? any inciet would be appreciated
Sorry I missed this earlier...this is increasing the timing on the bike. On a geared bike I think it would just replace a non working one. You won't notice much difference, if any.
@@kachiskid cool just saw this yes I do get the principle I didn't actually think it would benefit the automatic engine as much as the geared engine? I think she will hold up as long as you treat her right. Overnight, I thought about your question and I might put a little bigger carb. than the stock one. A sealed carb. could be a horror show. Take a full jet kit for all those different altitudes you will be going through. Stay away from pot holes, gravel and don't ride in the rain for as long as possible. Heated gloves, temp. gun, and heated jacket possibly. Yeah, liquid cooled would be ideal but you are gonna need a lot of breaks anyway. Upgrade the seat with more padding. FILM IT ALL!!!
Heavy rollers dont make u go faster it makes u shift at a lower rpm same with lighter it makes you shift at a higher rpm. You should tune it so it shifts with maximum tourq for me thats around 6-8k rpm
If you install one of these as a piece of advice, make sure you run the best fuel you can get (Highest octane), they work by advancing the timing and raising the rev limiter, this is fine in most places I.E. U.S, U.K, Germany and alike, but if you live somewhere with low quality fuel then don't run one, you WILL screw your engine (pre ignition/knock), these Chinese GY6 engines respond so well to these CDI's as from the factory the timing is hugely retarded so they can cope with low quality, low octane fuel with twigs in 🤣
when you change a cdi you need to do a calibration the settings calibration is in the manual if the part you bought is an original high end from the original company and not a knock off
Okay so I bought the blue one along with a performance ignition coil and a spark plug. The blue CDI shorted out on the same day it was first installed. I’m gonna return the kit. What should I do? Send me your thoughts. I have a 171CC GY6 Engine in my Gokart. Is the Blue CDI working well for you?
Yep I would send it back immediately not all CDIs are equal just because they're blue, some are hot garbage. Yes I have been running on the blue CDI since I made that video 2 years ago with no issues.
So does this really make that big a difference? Kinda sounded like the same boggy start on all 3 lol I ask because I'm more interested in low end power like get up in go instead of trying to squeeze an extra 1 or 2 mph out of the very top end haha
Brian, It is important that you know if the scooter is AC or DC. Sounds like if mine don't look familiar to you then they are running a DC electrical system. You might want to ask my boy Matt at Rolling Wrench just to make sure.
Hello Ham, yeah the biggest difference is the size of the CDI. If it is larger than the one in the video it is DC. Also an AC CDI has 2 connection ports, where 5 wires connect to the harness. Hope this helps. Every bike has a kill switch, that I have come across.

I haven't found out the secret of getting that belt to the top of the variator yet but I did find out they made a longer belt, so I will be testing that next spring. The reason I mentioned the carb is because normally when you remove an airbox for a pod filter or you change your exhaust you have to upjet your carb. Hope is rocking a 26mm CVK right now, but will be moving on to a 28mm PWK soon. You mentioned the 108 jet in the carb. now, have you checked? @@reggiexp69 Garden Sate....lmao. Where do you guys live, where ya'll can walk down the street and run into treasures...lol. I would also look into to getting a jet kit. That way you could keep it out of some of that dirt or mud. Have you attempted to throw that Mikuni on there? 30mm I have been told is over-kill but 28mm should be a good settling point.
No more than usual because you are in control of the throttle. It won't rev. to the point of damage, your engine is designed to be able rev to a certain point and no more.

Others in their videos have commented that the high-performance blue CDI box did not improve any performance on their scooters after installation.
Yeah, the people that have followed the journey from the start know that I have a 171cc engine, so results will vary. I can only show what my bike will do. Throwing it on a 50cc may or may not show results. For, what $10, give it a shot, if not at least you have a backup. I haven't rode without since that install, i love mine.

Speed is in mph. Pull the cdi from the kymco, check the connector. If it only have one connecting port then you bike is DC, and this CDI won't work. If it has 2 connection housings then it AC, which I have.
@@kachiskid Thanks for your reply! It has 2 connection housings one 4 pin and one 2 pin so it think its AC like yours. @@bleekwater6176 yeah we have the same it's a AC system and it most likely will work. Now I have a 171cc engine in mine, so my increases will not be the same as say a 50cc scooter. The only time I can really see me going over the level of restriction on my bike is when I do speed runs. I rarely keep the engine at max power throughout the day of riding. On a 50cc if you're constantly running wide open you risk damaging the engine with an unrestricted CDI.
@@kachiskid Really? I asked many people if an unrestricted cdi would cause damage to the engine and they said it wont. Could you explain me why it will cause damage to the engine.
@@bleekwater6176 not will, but could. There are many different opinions on all subjects related to scoots. A lot of people think that the engine isn't really producing enough power to do any real damage because it only 49.5cc. The restriction is in place so you don't overload the engine...now that being said it might be as dumb as how they seal the carbs. so we can't adjust them. Check out my last video and you will see engine failure (teardown in 5 minutes) the valve completely failed. That was a Taida cylinder which is a quality Taiwanese engine....not to say the CDI is at fault. There is a reason why the redline is the redline, nice place to visit but you don't want to stay. Just my take, because you asked...I could be wrong but after $300 in just engines I'm more careful.
Is your scooter 50cc? If so what have you done to it to make it go over 40mph? Or was that km? I swapped my cdi for the orange and put an air filter but noticed top speed loss but gaine a little bit of low end
Sorry Orlando, mine is a 150cc. Stock they go about 55 mph. Those are mph's. When you go to a pod filter you might need to rejet your carb, moving up one size. To go a little faster you might want to try swapping roller weights, to go a lot faster, go to the big bore kit.

Couldn't agree more!
You legend. I was looking at buying the orange as told no rev limiter but that blue 1 killed it. Keep it up 👍
Thank You!
So pay attention to those details so you don't end up with a seized engine! ;-)
Cheers
0:53 no, the rev limit is normaly based on the capacitor in the CDI hence its name Capacitive Discharge Ignition. The rpm is limited by how fast the capacitor can recharge. (Unless there is a secondary mechanical governor for some weird reason)

@@mikeylopez9625 I am hearing that and see it in some of the reviews. I'm not sure why, they must be doing something to the new bikes.

I have 150 cc wolf Blaze2. Wondering why is she cold start stalls wondering if it could be the old stock CDI which is a very small little black CDI with six prong I have a brand new CDI 6 prong it's black but it's a lot bigger then the old one I got it from the scooter shop they said my wolf would fit it but it's not a racing CDI but I think the old one is so much more smaller and that's the reason why it's not holding a spark when it should early on stalls cold start and bogs down early on before it's hot does that have something to do with a weak CDI box I have a lot of brand new components on the 150cc the only thing left old is this CDI
Fuel line fuel filter carburetor vacuum petcock manifold air filter oil valve adjustment I need to get new gear oil and brake fluid one set of brakes isn't working in the Pistons seem to be Frozen on the front brakes but other than that CDI box needs to be replaced wondering if I should get a racing CDI box to help the revving and increase the RPM
Wait so ur "gy6" is 4 stroke right? So does those cdi's work on 2 stroke? I have a feeling they dont.. anyone?
Good question. The only CDI's that I know that works with a 2 stroke are the ones in the motorized bike kits. My 2 cents.

Lol, saw it here also. 49ccscoot.
Great video thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Cool, It helps to know. thanx for your time

If you install one of these as a piece of advice, make sure you run the best fuel you can get (Highest octane), they work by advancing the timing and raising the rev limiter, this is fine in most places I.E. U.S, U.K, Germany and alike, but if you live somewhere with low quality fuel then don't run one, you WILL screw your engine (pre ignition/knock), these Chinese GY6 engines respond so well to these CDI's as from the factory the timing is hugely retarded so they can cope with low quality, low octane fuel with twigs in 🤣
Good write-up, and very true. ONLY 93 octane runs through my scooter.

No, it increases speed all through the range, doesn't fall off.

(hard to believe on got it at 95kmh) hoping the real blue racing cdi wil help and i ordered a tachometer to see rpm cause im sure it doesnt revs high at all... then when ever i got the time check the cvt belt and stuff and weight maybe.
@@reggiexp69 I agree that the checking of your belt will tell you a lot about the rpm's.
Normally stock carbs. are sealed, you will need a new one anyway for what you are planning to do with the quad.
@@kachiskid yeah cause i got the quad in a lets says left behind in garden state. all bearing where gone. carb was clogged up, (so i cleaned it and checked the jet it said 108 but im not sure i was busy doing stuff so i kinda forgot to write it down it looked like it said 108 on the jet) but it got clogged again cause stupid me didnt empty the old fuel... it was all dirty. so i emtpy the fuel tank cleaned it with some e85, cleaned the carb again and forgot the check jet, and put all to gether now it runs good.
yeha i was looking at 26mm cvt carb on google, i also do have 2 mikuni vm26 (30mm carb) at home (love those carb and i put them on every thing cause they cheap and easy, i put them on 200cc quad and a 250 barossa quad works fine direct bold on) but for the mikuni i need a different tube to connect it to the engine. so that will be a later upgrade maybe. i tought first maybe 26mm cvt. but befor all that, i need to change the stock air box cause its bad the stock air filter is way to thicc i cant even blow tru it... so im sure that restrict it also, not sure how i can put a normal filter on it since the carb is on top of the engine there is not much room just enough for the air box tube. and maybe try a 115 jet im not sure i guess first air intake, then jet. i will need to make a bit of time for that, same for the cvt belt, havent had time to check that
@@reggiexp69 Garden Sate....lmao. Where do you guys live, where ya'll can walk down the street and run into treasures...lol. I would also look into to getting a jet kit. Not sure where you live but it sounds like you can work on it and test it during the winter months. As far as the airpod filter can you either make or buy an extension pipe or tubing off the carb.? That way you could keep it out of some of that dirt or mud. Have you attempted to throw that Mikuni on there? 30mm I have been told is over-kill but 28mm should be a good settling point.
quastion can i put diffrent model cdi ..Not my scooter model other model ?
Yeah that will be fine.
Does the CDI significantly increase the wear and tear on the bike?
No more than usual because you are in control of the throttle. It won't rev. to the point of damage, your engine is designed to be able rev to a certain point and no more.
@@kachiskid ok sweeeet, thanks for the response!
@@collinbetten8192 Anytime.
My stock cdi has 6 wire and these upgrade cdi have 5. Think i dont need the red wire
You most certainly need the red wire. You most likely have 2 grounds. Google "6 pin cdi wiring diagram".
@@kachiskid when i look at the stock cdi the red one wasnt even plug in. And it was fine
@@Kdjoao Oh, okay. As long as it starts and operates is all that matters.
@@kachiskid hopefully it will start with the new cdi. So to install it, all u do is plug in the wires from the old one right? I see some people take like an hour to install it.
@@Kdjoao No, it should be plug and play if it is the correct one. Is your system AC or DC? What kind of bike?
Gotta note that the bike temp for each
Not that deep.
What about a lexmoto Milano 50cc...will it work it ..ty
Yes it should. Some 50cc's don't respond well. It can always be sent back.
@@kachiskid I bought an 80 big barrel bore kit....what's your thoughts...ty
80 cc
Throw that baby on!
Bro should we change the ignition coil when we change the cdi?
You shouldn't need too. I'm still rocking my original.
If you change your exhaust system do you got to change your spark plug
No. Same spark plug.
Thanks you kachis
No problem.
Yo what up kid? Hey I was thinking about getting the racIng cdi for my sons Tao Tao 150 lancer . Just curious do we have to adjust the idle screw with installing the racing cdi? The idle balance is perfect right now before the new racing cdi. Also he wants to mount his phone to his scooter. What mount do you have or recommend?
Hey APK, I didn't have to adjust the idle when connecting to my bike. In the video, that is really the 1st time I had ever connected it to my bike. Phone mounts for scooters can be tricky, mine is really a car mount that I have crazy glued to my bike. I have the Vava magnetic phone mount, it has a heck of a magnet on it. amzn.to/37y6UnL
Alright, much appreciate it. Our roads are covered in snow, so he isn’t able to ride, but we’re gonna take this time to do some upgrades. So far we have the new fuel Iines, getting alarm, and racing cdi, new Spark plug&wire. So just a few things to start with. Thanks again for your help and your channel. Will you be doing more videos on Hope? And I also noticed the 150 scooter at the end of your latest video. Is that yours?
@@apkt-mac6599 No, the scooter at the end of my video, is one of my subscribers. Caught you.... not watching my videos until the end. Lol. At the end of one of my last videos I mention I'm showing off my subscribers bikes... make sure I get a picture of your son's and he'll see it at the end of one of my next videos. 🤗 tons of videos coming with my 171cc baby!!!
🤣 nah I watched it, but don’t remember hearing you mentioning it. I definitely gotta pay attention more. I do want to send you pics of my sons scooter. How do I send those to you?

Have you upgraded yet.
I'm in the process of purchasing a TaoTao quantum tour 150cc. It's bone stock, I think that of putting a 171 big bore kit new exhaust 12 gm waits 26 mm Japanese carb with a 24 finale gear. And up grade hoses coil and cdi and top off with a Kevlar drive belt. not sure might do little more. I will be sending you pictures and details on the process. Still by for more hot News 😁
Yes, I watched your video, but it seems to have gone well. However, at the end of it, I did not know if you think that it went well for you and what you think of it now.
@@kachiskid My scooter is a 150cc Taotao, and tomorrow I will install new high-performance CDI, carburetor, gas lines, and performance coil on it. We will see then if the performance of the scooter will be significantly improved.
You will be pleasantly surprised if you get the right CDI, everything else mentioned won't increase your speed.
Thank you. I look forward to noticing the CDI increased performance of the scooter.
No problem, good luck. Let me know how it goes.
Is that speed in mph or kmh? And do you know if the blue cdi is suitable with kymco agility 50?
Speed is in mph. Pull the cdi from the kymco, check the connector. If it only have one connecting port then you bike is DC, and this CDI won't work. If it has 2 connection housings then it AC, which I have.
@@kachiskid Thanks for your reply! It has 2 connection housings one 4 pin and one 2 pin so it think its AC like yours. But im going to buy a cdi with remote control and when i push a button on the remote it will go unrestricted about 50-60 km/h (31-37 mph). So if the cops hold me i may be lucky. The only negative part is that its pretty expensive: 110 euros
Could you explain me why
it will cause damage to the engine.
Just my take, because you asked...I could be wrong but after $300 in just engines I'm more careful.
is there a difference in fuel consumption?
That I'm not sure about. I rarely track fuel consumption on any of my bikes.
What's the best weight roller weights for a 150cc scooter? I have 11 gram weights and I don't like it I want to be able to wheelie my scooter
13 to 14 grams should take care of that.
This cdi works on Indian bikes please reply sir
Son, are you talking about an Indian motorcycle? Or a scooter?
Bro I want to know the blue racing cdi is ac or dc?
AC
Oh okay thanks
No problem.
This is miles per hour right?
Yup.
Put the blue cdi in my 50cc and it runs alright, but had to be kick started like 90% of the time...
I hear that happens to 50cc's. Check your valves, you might need to adjust them.
Did you go faster!
Answer at the end of the video.
@@kachiskid thanks man i might just sell it and buy a 150cc
@@ezurmnd No problem. I think you'll love it.
