    Eric, for 12 years I've had a horrible arms swing with almost no body turn or weight shift and after watching millions of youtube videos I was still flipping. It was only when I realised I need to have "dead arms" and use the body to swing when the light came on. In my view this video of yours is the perfect explanation of a basic golf swing. THIS is what instructors should be teaching in my opinion. Just wish I knew this 12 years ago. Thanks for the video

    I recently came across that video you did with Milo and that’s gotta be a top 5 TH-cam golf video for me. It’s so simple and makes the entire swing much easier to understand. Probably why it’s so effective since it’s easy to get lost in the details. As you mentioned, a square club face/good wrist conditions & solid arm structure at the top of the backswing are a must though if you’re going to start using the body to power the swing.

    I have found that if your hand, wrist, and arm positions are correct it "forces" or at least encourages body rotation! Just my experience. So, in my opinion, the goal can be accomplished from 2 different directions. One concentrate on rotating, letting the hands, arms and wrists follow OR establish and maintain the proper hand, wrist, and arm positions or conditions and rotate those conditions through. When I learned the correct right arm and wrist positions from delivery through impact and worked on them. I found that my core muscles were working harder (and they got sore). Basically, my opinion, if your arms, wrists and hands aren't "frailing" around, your body will take over to move them and the club through. If you get the right arm/elbow correct, it is virtually impossible to NOT rotate. You either rotate or break your arm. Of course all of this is just my opinion, I could be (and probably am) totally wrong!!!!!!!

    Great video. Noticed a while back that every pro has a slight body move towards the target prior to starting the downswing. Many before they even complete the backswing. After I fixed my incredibly inside takeaway and it started feeling natural doing that correctly, I started to use my body to start the downswing and that’s when a noticeable increase in distance happened immediately and effortlessly. I will say that for someone who was like me and had the inside takeaway followed by over the top...probably need to correct that first before working on this ;) I could be wrong though.

    Cant wait to try this out. My biggest issue is always pulling the ball very slightly. I cant seem to figure out how to fix it correctly so im not hitting it left at the start, but rather straight or even a slight push. Im thinking this could help me out cause i feel like im lacking a bit of lower body control. Btw, im jealous of your swing, it looks so damn smooth.

    I like it and can see how beneficial this could be. One question though, what was your swing thought while doing the drill at the beginning? Was it focused on the target or was it focused on keeping you arms passive? Both?
    My bet is your arms. If your mind is on your target it should be easier from the start.

    • @CogornoGolf

    • @nelsonjames1272

      @@CogornoGolf yes that is more or less what I was saying. Same thing, not the target. This is what might make it more difficult at the beginning. You have to think of both target and body.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Nelson. I do not think you need to think target when doing this.

    I started working on this today at the range. I find that it keeps me from pushing the ball left because my arms are not ahead of my body. The second benefit is not over doing it in my back swing. I am going waist high back but all the way thru forward. For whatever reason this keeps me swinging from the inside out.

    Eric, looks like a lot, and by “a lot” I mean most, Tour players today are using more of a body driven swing with little to no wrist action, at least that’s what it appears. Am I wrong? What are some of the reasons that you don’t always agree with the buddy driven swing method as you mention early on in the video? It seems like you were pretty happy with the quality of your shots and the “feel goodness” of those shots. Are there any major detriments to having a more or predominantly body driven swing? Thanks 🙏, buddy!

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they do
      Key part of this video....this is good IF......IF....IF.....you're club face and arms and hands are good to go.
      90% of players I see have issues with club face, path, wrist angles, etc.
      IF you don't fix those and do just this the odds of success are low.
      Like taking steroids REALLY helps your physique but step 1 is you actually have to go to the gym
      Body motion REALLY helps but you need to have the face/path/hands at least functional (go to the gym)

    Already in Phase 2 you speeded up your hand faster than your torso. Hands don’t go the same speed with body in any hitting sport, there is no way adding speed that way. Hands can be relaxed once you learn the proper sequence, but they are certainly active always. Using the body consept comes more from the idea where you are clearly open at impact, to compensate that you have to drop your hand much more behind your body at downswing. Its’ more like a slingshot idea that way.
