I shit you not, I’ve been working on my Century III part two video for about 6 months at this point...the opening sequence for mine was the first thing I finished and we’re almost shot for shot. Lol I’m putting this on record because if anyone thinks either of us copied one or the other, we totally did not...call it a happy coincidence....😂😂😂
That tagging guide from kaufmann's is interesting when you think how long kaufmann's has been gone. Kaufmann's closed in 2006. way before this was a dead mall.
Great video Anthony. You really filled the void left by Dan Bell. He's screwing around making those idiotic Another Dirty Room videos and you are documenting the Dead Mall scene very nicely. You have my full support on Patreon...rock on brother.
GrouchoHMarx The ADR videos do serve a purpose, though. Some of those hotels have been permanently shut down for health violations after his videos. The problem is that the states don't have enough money in the budget to inspect every hotel every few months like they're supposed to, so they usually only inspect after a complaint is filed (if at all). The ADR videos are drawing attention to some of the roach hotels that need to be closed. I do wish Dan and friends would be more serious about it, though, and stop acting so juvenile. The videos would be half as long if they'd stop acting like college students on a bender. Just get in, do the inspection, and get out. Frankly, since I'm unlikely to ever go anywhere within a few hundred miles of those hotels, I just skip right to the ratings at the end. Meanwhile, Dan has apparently been reaching into his archives for footage that he hasn't shown yet; I saw a new mall video on his channel just the other day. (A new video *about* a mall, that is. Not a video about a new mall.)
For as long as I can remember, I had a fascination with empty old school houses, Church's, ect., Well back then 80's 90's, malls were just being built, and thriving, now, man I can't believe the emptiness, sad.
Having grown up there during the heydays of the the 1980's its hard to believe how far its fallen. The video from pittsburgh dad fading to current was just insane. Thanks for sharing with those of us who have moved far away but still miss our childhood second home.
It's amazes me how these malls with the great architecture design are just dying .It really is sad to see them dropping off...Thanks for filming Anthony
When I watch these videos of CIII, I see it the way it was in the mid to late 1990s, when I shopped there regularly. It was PACKED on a Friday or Saturday night. So sad....
My brother got married in Hershey a few years ago. Had a chance to see this place in better days but didn't. Makes me upset with myself I didn't go. Seeing it gives me some happy memories of Randall Park Mall from my youth. Similar design and some cool fountains.
I grew up going to this place.i can remember when it was shoulder to shoulder and you could barely move to seeing it in this sad state.so many great memories there
And if you ask anyone local about going there....They'll ask you why do you want to go there....Because no one goes there anymore....I was told that when i moved to Pittsburgh from NY in 2015....
Shavonne Stacia it’s a shame. Robinson, and like 3 other malls and many outlets opened. Including waterfront. The mall use to be one of the best, 3rd when it opened and it’s sad how it is abandoning and only JcPenny still stands
That mus have a hell of an utility bills The lighting alone must be expensive much less the heat I am assuming it is on so the sprinkler system doesn't freeze
So i was curious what time was represented when you recorded the Mall Kiosk at 9:18 on the video. Using B Dalton Books stores, K B Toys and Walden books all listed on the kiosk the latest that could have been was 2009. So figure that was roughly ten years ago that informational Kiosk was last current, many of those companies are no longer in business. Kaufmans is one of them along with those listed above
At 9:00, could you please tell me where did you find the directory? I'd like to take some close up photos of it while I still have the opportunity. I have nothing but love for C3. This is my mall, and I've been coming here since childhood. I've spent so much time there and continue to stop in to JC Penny, Dicks, and New Dimensions. Was just there last on Jan 26.
Hey Anthony you need to do Carl Sandburg mall in Galesburg. I live only 28 minutes from here and it still stuck back in 1985. It had a McDonald's in the food court and some of the McDonald's stuff is still there. The Stores Anchor was Bergner's( The Bon-Ton) Big K-mart and JC Penney. We also have 6 abandoned big K-marts within a 40 mile radius.
in bottom left at 1:57, that guy is always always always there! he pops up multiple times in the video, so he really does make his rounds. i’ve seen him in there many times. he just walks circles around the mall. doesn’t yell at people who go over barriers, so not security? super weird.
Hopefully you know the person at the very end that walked behind the other side of the wall where you said what sounds like "What?"... ? I had to replay that part a few times.
I remember when it was a cool dream to be locked inside of a mall all night, hell there were even movies about it. Now it would seem kind of sad and depressing. "The older I get the more things I have to leave behind, thats life". Malls seem like another little piece of my life that disappear every day. Heres a tip for the younger generation, Dont get old.
Overnight Maintenance worker for 4 years here, its dull as shit there at night. All the places locked up and nothing to do, except walk the halls or clean the floors. Oh and Christmas is the worst. We would start Christmas music day after Halloween and they didnt turn it off at night. After year 3 when Ive heard Santa Baby for the 4,837,375,590 time I was about ready to take a gun to every single speaker in the ceiling.
memnarch129 playing Christmas music the day after halloween kills me. I made a video about that a few years back. Pretty soon it will start after the 4th of July
@@jumpbacktome Yep, the closing of Macy's in 2016 was definitely a turning point, when the mall really started to have much bigger vacancy issues. I know some people here may not like Dan Bell, but he did film a video just barely before Macy's closed their doors here, that's worth a history watch now. And for sure, you can see a big difference of a video like that one back then, vs. videos that were filmed inside here in 2018. In fact, I think right this very second(lmao), I'm going to find that video and rewatch it now! If you look at the date he posted for when the video was filmed it says Dec. 28th, 2018, that was a Friday. I remember 15-20 years ago at malls on a Friday or Saturday night there'd be so many people you could barely walk.
you should check out Charleston town center in charleston wv..mall was just sold on court house steps and not too many stores left..macy's leaving soon..only anchor that will be left is a Penneys..
I know a family that had a business in the food court. A few years ago the kitchen caught fire. The owner wanted too much rent so they moved to a different shopping center
Century III Mall is currently being demolished after numerous issues. It's sad to see this once thriving mall being completely torn down with no future plans announced yet.
Shame- looks so clean, but it's a ghost town too. It seems many malls are headed for closure. I walk a mall in Metro Detroit on the weekends and at least 3 stores have closed in as many weeks. Both L & T and Macy's are still anchors. There is some discussion it will be re-purposed as an outdoor mall.
13:55 That doesn't look recognizable to the same Macy's store that I took a tour of nearly 3 years ago! BTW... Here's a link to the video that I shot of the store in its final days (and it happens to be my most popular video thus far on my channel): th-cam.com/video/ARC-YyRSWbM/w-d-xo.html

Pittsburgh Dad did a nice job with his video clip (and if you don't know already his Steelers videos are a hoot.) I'm angry at Macys for buying all these long time department stores and trying to convent their own unique selling styles to cookie cutter Macys. That's what killed Kaufmanns, Filienes, Marshall Fields etc. It's nice they left the old Kaufmanns stuff, people in PA must miss that store. Keep those videos coming. I"m looking forward to your take on Wayne Town Center in my home state where either malls are booming (Short Hills, Garden State, Cherry Hill even my violence plagued Newport Center Jersey City Mall) or on life support.
I also wonder if perhaps they are being tagged an attractive nuisance by their insurance or perhaps being hit with a city code violation or something of that nature.
So If I'm not mistaken by letting the malls go into dispair it allows the owner to declare the properties as loses and they get tax breaks..i could be wrong

Agreed
I looked up MoonBeam properties....They own high rise condos in Manhattan of all places....
And those condos in Manhattan ain't cheap. That's probably how they stay in business even though all their malls are going downhill.
They have to be writing off the losses and milking these dead malls for tax breaks. That's the only thing I can imagine...
Those are some old blue prints of Kaufmanns given it has "PENNA" for the state abbreviation. Great find and awesome video!
