I know these are small snippets of your life, but you are getting so much accomplished and look so great despite feeling so poorly all of this pregnancy. Thanks for the video, and I hope it is encouraging to you too to see all the beautiful things you’re doing! It probably doesn’t feel like a lot in the moment when you have to rest. Prayers for you and baby!!
We got a huge goose after struggling with loss due to hawks. She would start squawking and honking and expanding her wings to warm the chickens to run for cover. We also hung wads of tinfoil on strings over the top of the area to help deter.
So glad to hear that you are all doing better…we love when your videos come…but don’t expect them weekly given your condition. You, baby and family are priority…we’ll just sit and wait patiently. I will be praying for you as you await the arrival of your new addition. Thanks for the pancake recipe - looking forward to trying it out! Take care…❤😊
Steph love this! You are such an inspiration. Please do a tour of all your children’s precious little rooms! Loved the girly details ❤ Thank you for focusing on joy 🙏 all the small, beautiful things to be thankful for in life are so evident in your video’s!
4. Install An Owl Decoy A rather unusual way of keeping hawks away from your chickens is to install an owl decoy that actually looks like an owl in a place where they can see it easily and often throughout the day and night. You can purchase realistic looking ones with big staring eyes that move from side to side as if watching you.
3. Install Motion Detector Lights Both Outside & Inside This is probably the most effective hawk deterrent of all but also takes quite some time to set up. It is a good option if you have more than one or two hens. Simply wire a light that comes on whenever there is movement outside the coop at night, and another that comes on inside the coop as soon as it gets dark inside too. Hawks will also see these lights from afar and be frightened of approaching your chickens under any circumstances. In fact, it might keep other predators away from your birds too!
Love the new table. As for the chickens it's sometimes hard to keep the predators away. We had to put chicken wire fence on the top and reinforce the entire coup.
2. Make Noise With A Dog Kennel If you are in an area where there are many hawks it is best to make as much noise as possible when they are around, discouraging them before they can get anywhere near your chickens. Installing a dog kennel on the fence containing your chickens will usually do the trick. Hawks will spot it from afar and avoid it altogether or wait until nightfall when your dogs aren’t around!
No need to apologise you have enough to do and think about. Can’t believe you still manage to find any time to film. Sending love and so nice seeing the snow. ❤
You look wonderful, Steph! I'm so sorry for your gallbladder attack and the flu hitting your household, Sweetie pie - sure makes for hard days, no question! Love that you feel so well immediately after delivery! What a gift, blessing that is! I can only imagine, however so thankful that you can look forward to good days coming with precious baby and your whole family!💖 Loved our visit with you! Darling fashions you shared, too. How sweet to look forward to new clothes for postpartum days coming, and Spring!💯 Praying for you and yours, especially your physical health. 🤗🤗🤗❤
We have the same issue with predators and our chickens. For the time we’ve got them in covered runs. When the next section of pasture is complete, we’ll move both coops into the pasture area with the sheep and Shepards. If you have any wooded areas, that’s sometimes better because they can take cover. But that’s why we’ve got closed coops. It’s just too dangerous at the moment. Admittedly, I’d prefer to free range 100%, but we have to protect them. And it seems as though colder months are worse. If you find something else that works, please keep us updated!
I’m so sorry you had gall bladder pain! I went through the same thing after I had my son. I’ve heard it’s kind of common after pregnancy. But to have the pain during pregnancy must be another story! I’m praying for you! And can’t wait to see your precious new baby 🙏🏻❤️
It was lovely seeing you today! Love your sun room!! I too always feel so much better after baby comes; it’s weird but almost immediately after delivery I feel “normal” again. Praying your delivery is smooth and quick!
I am so encouraged by your content -- just found your channel and am currently watching them back to back. Found you bc of Neuflora... staying for the way you honor the Lord, and how good that sourdough looks! Its like hanging out with a best friend when I watch these. 👏 🙏 🕊 ♥
It was so good to see you had a new video up. I’m so sorry you have been feeling so poorly. You always look like a ray of sunshine. Loved this video so much seeing your family all working together. Also wanted to say what a wonderful job you are doing with your home and your children and family. Y’all live on a working farm and your kids help with outside chores plus playing outside yet they always look so clean and dressed so cute. You are such a wonderful wife and mother. Hope you are feeling better soon. ❤
I love your videos.❤ I've always heard that if you have black chickens the hawks think they are crows and will not mess with them. Something got all of my chickens except my black one....so I don't know.
So sorry you have not been feeling well but glad you are better! I just love your videos! You are always so happy and cheerful and I love your choice of music! God bless
I’m so sorry you haven’t been well. I had what they believed was a gall bladder attack that sent me to ER as well back in fall and that’s when I also was told I have a hiatal hernia as well. So I know exactly how that feels and I’m so sorry you had to go through it.
I love the way you decorated the little girls room....that beautiful chandelier and white iron beds and pretty pink curtains around the 2 beds..I love the traditional look..🌸🌸🌸 so dreamy
We have hawks pretty bad here too, but we got 2 geese and they are the best protection for our chickens! One day my husband hollered for me to come outside real quick and I ran out there and the geese were making this really weird noise and then we noticed all the chickens were hiding and the geese had their wings spread as far as they could and we look up and there were two hawks circling. Side note: I will say we raised the geese with our new flock of chickens for the hawk reason whenever we moved, so I’m not sure how you introduce geese to an already thriving flock just FYI.
1. Install An Electric Wire On Top Of The Fence The most effective way of keeping hawks away from your chickens is to install an electric wire on top of the fence that contains them. Just about any bird predator will be put off by this deterrent, which will also keep the foxes at bay. If you are in a reasonably isolated spot you can get away with having just the one wire, but if not, you will need to have a wire every three feet or so. This is by far the most effective way of keeping hawks away from your chickens and takes only a day to set up.
i love being able to worship to the music on your videos while admiring your positive attitude towards the hard season. Praying a safe labor and delivery paired with a sweet post partum for you and the new little love of your family!
Attaching a few of those plastic owls to the top of posts in the area the chickens roam is supposed to help. Also heard of the black hens in the flock and having some places the chickens can run and hide here and there.
It is always a great morning when I see you and your lovely family, you motivate me so much, I am making my own bread and my husband loves it no more preservatives or things that is not healthy for you. Whenever you can do a posting no pressure you have a lot going on in your life. I am thankful for all your posts!!!❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for making a video considering everything you've been dealing with. Loved the whole thing, all your new things, your family life & the clothes are going to be so pretty on you!!
From the TH-camr ‘Little House on the Mountain’ I believe I heard her mention ‘hawk netting’. I don’t know if it’s anything special or if it is just a regular netting that is to stop the hawks. It kinda looked like regular netting to me. From what I could tell it just goes over the run. In the video I watched the snow had ‘messed it up’ and they just had to put it back in place.
Have you seen the blow up balloon characters at the tire stores....??? 🤨🤔 Sorry, I can't think of what they are called. But, they blow up & wiggle around in the wind. Predators are very smart. Whatever you use needs to be able to move around, like it's alive!! I had a huge blue herring coming around trying to eat my koi fish out of my pond & we tried everything!! They are relentless!! He brought back some of his/friends!! We tried the plastic owls, crows, crocodiles ect. They watch & if they don't think it is alive & a threat??? They come right back!! We got one of those wiggly balloons & haven't seen FRANK & FRIENDS (blue herrings) since. ❤❤❤
I have heard of many using the cute, skinny dancing tube men that you see at the car lots. They are always moving and it could lessen the loss quite well 🥰
I've heard having a black chicken or 2 in your flock can deter hawks because they think they are crows and apparently crows and hawks are enemies. But I don't know if that would help or not ❤
i haven’t tried this personally with our chickens but i have heard a few different people that have used of those huge blow up flappy things that kind of dance & flow with the wind. i cannot recall the name of them but sometimes car dealerships use them or businesses! hopefully you know what i’m referring too haha!! sending prayers for a smooth delivery for you & baby!
5. Installing A Fence On Top Of Your Existing Fence Another way of protecting chickens from hawks is to install a second wire on top of the first one. This wire needs to be about 18 inches lower than the original and should also be electrified, hopefully preventing the hawk from making contact with any part of either fence. It can be quite difficult for birds of prey such as falcons to make that final swoop downwards at speed, so by lowering the height of one or both fences, they may give up trying altogether.
Hello Steph!!! I was so happy to see you today!!! This was such a sweet video!!! The kids and puppy was so sweet playing in the snow!!! I love your new table and chairs could you share the link where you got them please!!! That's exactly what I'm looking for!!! I'm so excited to see baby boy!!! Praying the rest of your pregnancy will be easy for you!!!! I love the dresses and skirts you showed us!!!! Take care and God bless!!!!
For me, too! Later years before having it removed, I looked like a classic coronary from the pain, but I knew exactly what was going on! My first stone was found when our daughter was sectioned -Dr. wasn't concerned about it getting into the ducts b/c it was almost golf ball size! Sadly, I made many more stones over the years and required surgery in my forties, a good decision.
I have seen those really tall, wiggly air/men that usually sit and wiggle and move around at car dealerships has helped defer any large predators getting your chickens. Hopefully that will help.
I think I had a gall bladder attack about 11 days ago 😱. First one ever. I self diagnosed, but made a Dr. appointment and got in the following Tuesday…….ultrasound on the following Friday. Waiting on results. Quite painful for about 6 hours. Subsided on its own, but was ready to visit ER if it hadn’t. I can only imagine what it would be like while pregnant 😵💫. Dr. said to go immediately to the ER if it happens again.
My husband and I had 25 chickens... Lost a couple to hawks but their demise came from a couple of fox. They only way I know to protect them is keep them in a covered run. As soon as they are free range... they're susceptible to Mother Nature!
Add a scarecrow. Tie aluminum pie plates to it, things that make noise. Get a guard animal like a great pyranese Add a rooster to your flock they will protect their girls.
Always love your videos how are you feeling with the liver vitamins ? Do you use any of their other supplements and could you recommend a good raspberry tea ?
I wish! We just got it color matched to a piece of fabric and had them save it in our files, but it doesn’t actually have a name! Sorry that’s not more helpful 😅
Get yourself some acerola cherry powder. This has over 500mg of vitamin C in one scoop. I put 1/2 scoop in my iced tea daily, this is low in sugar too. 1/2 scoop is only 1.5 carbs/sugar. ❤❤❤
I was wondering if you could post a sour dough starter recipe, everyone posts different recipes to make from it but I’m having a hard time finding recipes for the starter.
Thinking of you! I pray the remainder of this pregnancy goes better for you. Beef organ complex helped me during my last pregnancy and even now, postpartum. You'll be holding that sweet babe in your arms before you know it! ❤ As far as the hawks, could you put netting over the top of the chicken's area? We did this at my brother's house for the same season. It was a very large area to cover, but thankfully took care of the problem.
That’s so good to hear! Our chickens literally run all over the yard so would probably need to build a larger enclosure for the netting to be an option.
Sort of nothing to do with you technically but I have been very disappointed that Neuflora’s sizing is so small in their dresses that are not smocked. I wanted the Anniston dress in dusty blue but I’m not able to. I bought the Raleigh dress in XL and it doesn’t fit in the bust. Their XL is 42”. That is my exact bust size and it does not fit. I am usually a large or XL or size 12 or 14 in any top/ dress. So I’m so sad I cannot buy their dresses. I won’t wear the smocked one because they is not modest or practical to wear with a regular bra.
I think she gets them as a complimentary gift from the company as she brings awareness to their business 😊. But certain, but I think so. Wouldn’t that be fun!! ❤

The Scandish home has an enclosed coop that might work for your chickens. They built it themselves.

Hello Steph, family, and fur babies. GOOD to see you guys. Praying all is well. STTB
In Washington we have to worry about hawks and other birds. We have chicken tractors and a large run (both with dig guards) to protect chickens.
Thank you for making a video considering everything you've been dealing with. Loved the whole thing, all your new things, your family life & the clothes are going to be so pretty on you!!

Hi ! Excited for you as you approach meeting your precious new addition ❤
Was wondering what that green paint color you used in your room is called?
Wonderful video!! I was excited about the clothes you shared but when I went on website I was so surprised how expensive they are.

You can also string fishing line about 2 ft apart the length of the run overhead, they can't fly through it.
To shy away the hawks you can try to put an owl (made of plastic or metal) on the chicken coop.
beautiful snow! what is the green paint color you painted the dresser? i love it with the gold hardware on the doors.

Gallbladder is the most painful thing I've ever been through. I ended up having mine out. But the attacks were so painful.

Steph, Where did you get the persimmons? I have been looking for quite some time to find some, but having trouble.

A Great Pyrenees dog will chase off hawks. Also, keep the coop enclosed with chicken wire or wood.
Do you have a video on how you do that messy loose bun by chance??? Also, you are glowing!!! Can't wait for baby to arrive 😍
I agree! I tried to do it today and it turned out okayyyy…. My husband liked it though 😅
What is the name of the song that was playing while you were making pancakes? The one that goes, I am so amazed at the depth of your love.
We got a livestock guardian and haven’t had a problem. But I’ve heard just loud animals like a goose or a donkey too help!
You have a beautiful home!! 😍
Scarecrow and wire on top of the coup we’ve dealt with the same!
We actually haven’t had our first snow yet of the year and I’m a little jealous!😂.
We hardly got ANY snow all winter last year so this was a treat for us too 😊
Where did u get your coffee table
Add a scarecrow. Tie aluminum pie plates to it, things that make noise.
Get a guard animal like a great pyranese
Add a rooster to your flock they will protect their girls.
Always love your videos how are you feeling with the liver vitamins ? Do you use any of their other supplements and could you recommend a good raspberry tea ?
Stephanie could you share the paint color please?
I wish! We just got it color matched to a piece of fabric and had them save it in our files, but it doesn’t actually have a name! Sorry that’s not more helpful 😅
Curious where you got the table and chairs. I thought your husband had a furniture making company?
Have you considered a closed in chicken pen. A closed one would discourage their feasts.
Get yourself some acerola cherry powder. This has over 500mg of vitamin C in one scoop. I put 1/2 scoop in my iced tea daily, this is low in sugar too. 1/2 scoop is only 1.5 carbs/sugar. ❤❤❤
Thank you for the recommendation❤
Where do you get celtic salt?
I was wondering if you could post a sour dough starter recipe, everyone posts different recipes to make from it but I’m having a hard time finding recipes for the starter.
I think the channel/blog farmhouse on Boone has a tonne of info on sourdough.
