Yes - spray the screw and post with WD40 or another penetrating oil and let it sit. After a while, get a piece of kitchen scrubbing pad or hunk of steel wool or electrician's tape to use as backing on a pliers jaw. Put the tape on the pliers jaws or wrap the scrub pad or steel wool around the cross post so that you can grip it without marring the surface. Hold the pliers tight on the cross bar to prevent the spinning and then try to remove the screw - That should do it. If for some reason the screw breaks off, you would need to replace the crossbar, but almost all of the time this method works to get the screw out without damaging the crossbar - Dennis
Good Day…I took mine apart to clean it and oil it, after putting it back together, it binds and doesn’t spin nowhere near as smooth as it did before taking it apart…Do you have any suggestions for this?….Thanks
My first thought is that the spool brakes were not set all of the way in when you reinstalled the side plate. I would check that first. Another cause may be in the drag stack if the eared washer is not in the slots in the main gear
Hello, wondering if you can help me, do you know anything about the abu garcia five star rod? I am in the UK and own one and am just trying to find out about it.
I Have An Old Ambassadeur 5500C And I Took It Apart,Cleaned It And Put It Back Together And The Thumb Bar Is Stuck,It Won't Push In,What Do You Think The Problem Is.
Check to make sure the thumb bar is in the slot and not trapped by the side plate. This bar usually floats and is held in place by the side plate slot. If it floats below the slot and you tighten the side plate, it will not move. You can also view my video on the 5500 here th-cam.com/video/RNgeMZUVYV0/w-d-xo.html, but the internals are nearly identical to the Five Star - Dennis
Just dug out my old baitcasters. One had a bad anti reverse dog, thanks for sharing.
You are welcome. I appreciate the feedback and your watching the channel. Best wishes for great fishing - Dennis
Thank you for great explanation and noifying on the details.
Glad it was helpful! I appreciate the feedback and your viewership. Please stay tuned for more to come - Dennis
Hello Dennis...MAN YOU GOT SOME SKILLS
Nothing you can't learn!
Any recommendations on how to remove the side plate screw if it just rotates and turns the bar along with it?

@@2ndChanceTackle Do You work on Reels, I can’t find whatever is causing it to Reel the way it is?

I don't. Unfortunately, I am not a rod expert. Try the Abu web site
@@2ndChanceTackle cheers, seems an older rod, I bought it second hand along with some others, but want to try and find info about it. Thank-you

You don't need to lubricate the spool pinion and idler gear as they're nylon. All this does is sacrifice casting performance. Leave them dry.
OK. Most of the bigger Ambassadeurs are used for drop fishing around here, but I get your point on casting - thanks - Dennis
