Dennis, that was an incredible video! I can say you far exceeded my expectations and have been amazing to work with. I actually went to the hospital after work today, to visit my Grandpa who originally owned this reel ('79) so its hard to express how grateful I am for your service. I just got home and to cap my night off with this video has been something special. You are a master at your craft and I loved listening along as you diagnosed, repaired and rerepaired until the reel was the best it could be. But this won't be a mantle piece, I plan on Ripping some lips!
Since I own several Ambassadeur 4600 5000 5500 6500 of various flavors, some I bought, some passed down, I appreciate the public service you provide to our special community. Thanks again for providing practical, in-depth instructional videos. I had a chuckle with your tips on grease and oil type and where to use each. The first timer guy/gal doesn't realize this specific, in the weeds info is needed until the reel is spread out on the table and being put back together. Well, I've dabbled in repairs, bumbling my way through several reels and am very grateful for the tips.
Great job of diagnosing the problem on this Ambassador! Time has run out for me as I have to be at the hospital at 5:15am in the morning for my hew hip. It is not happening a moment too soon !!! - Chris
I love this generation of Abu’s. I’ll never let mine go. I just serviced a couple of these recently, and took both of those springs off when cleaning. seeing that you explained their orientation, and that each side of the spring has a different size loop, i’m not sure if I put them back the same way. This is the reason why I watch your videos of the reels that I am already familiar with. I always learn or find a new piece of info. Keep up the great work Dennis. Thank you!
Thanks for the videos. Love them. I have a 5500C that I purchased in 1977. The casting release button will not stay depressed. What i would like to do is do a complete service and repair this problem. Is there a repair/rebuild kit available or is there a list of parts i need to order. Where can these parts be purchased. Thanks in advance for any help.
Those parts normally do not break in that set up. Have you cleaned the reel? It may be dirt or dried grease causing the issue. You can check ereplacementparts.com but the age of the reel may mean that many parts are no longer available. You may want to by a used 5500C to use for donor parts. No rebuild kits are available - Dennis
@@2ndChanceTackle Thanks for the info. I used to get it serviced at a local shop every few years but it has been many years since the last time. I will try cleaning it. I'm sure it needs that. Thanks again for the help and keep up the great videos.
Hi Dennis I’ve neglected my reels and let them sit for about the last 10-15 years. I had heart attack and then open heart surgery along with 3 other surgeries and now in a wheelchair. Also I’m a 100% Disabled Vietnam Veteran will not be fishing anymore and would love to hand them down to my grandsons who like to fish. I’ve watched several of your videos and if you’re game I will package some up to send to you to clean and make any repairs as needed. I made a screen shot of your card with address. What are your rates for cleaning? Thanks and look forward to hearing back from you. Bob
Thanks Bob - Yes go ahead and send them to me. Please send a note to my email 2ndchancetackle@gmail.com for additional information. I will help give these reels a 2nd Chance - Dennis
