Gosh you're so organized. Thankyou for sharing yet another helpful video. I've never heard of Beautiful Feet books but can't wait to check them out more in detail. x

Not always! Haha but I feel like I have to be more so for next year so make it as smooth as possible! But yes, check them out 😊

I like the way you laid out your plans. We’ve used Sonlight for the last two years, but this coming year I decided to because of baby coming and my lack of desire/time to read SO many books. BUT I’m using Notgrass History with their read aloud suggestions (only 6 chapter books or so) and then I’m using the Beautiful Feet book list to add some picture books! So kind of backwards to your plan. 🥰 Plus my daughter is using the Sonlight Level D readers to read on her own. ❤
Keep us posted on how this goes! 😊

I am SO excited for History for our next school year! We are also doing a literature based history for the first time and I just want to start now 🤣

I literally just did the exact same thing this week lol. I selected books from all four of the sources you mentioned, thrifted the ones I wanted for our home library, sourced others/alternatives from the library, tagged some on the Libby app, and found TH-cam videos for the rest!

Love it, thanks. That's so helpful as I'm planning something similar for next year.

I think it’s probably too much and I’ve overshot 🫣😬 haha but I’m ok with not getting it ALL done

We did Bookshark a few years back and read a bunch of these books. My girls really enjoyed them. Walk the World’s Rim was reallyyyyyy slow and was the one book my girls said they wouldn’t read again.

I have an upcoming 2nd grader. Which do you like better- beautiful feet it the Abeka history you did? Thanks for your very helpful videos!! You are so motivated and organized- even with a baby in the way. It’s awesome!

I like them both for different reasons! I haven’t used BFB history yet, just their around the world with picture books, but it was awesome!

I have a 6th and 3rd grader for next year and I’m interested in beautiful feet! But we’re in in between the grade splits. Did you decide to do the younger American history because your 6th grader does an additional history? I’m trying to decide if I want to do the primary or intermediate!

When did you start history with your oldest? I started homeschooling last year for Kindergarten and will be starting 1st grade this upcoming school year. So far we've only done a general 'Social Studies' workbook. He's currently the only student (have a 3 year old and 3 month old also-- so I was you this Spring juggling the remainder of the school year and a newborn! Hectic but doable, praying for the same for you this Fall!) so we've never done it as a group yet. I'm not sure when to begin History, so I just wanted to see what grade you started adding that in? Thanks for the guidance!

It’s different for everyone. This sounds terrible but I honestly can’t remember 🤦🏻‍♀️🥴 it was either 2nd or 3rd grade for my oldest. I. believe 3rd and my middle was in 1st because we did the Abeka 2nd grade history to split the difference between their ages. So I personally waited a bit but it’s completely up to you! Not sure they need 12 full years of history though. I think most kids prefer life science at that age, but you know what you and your kids interests are and if that’s something feasible.

I’m excited for history this year as well. I am most excited for phonics tho. We will be doing first grade and reading just really started clicking for her the second half of kinder. ❤

Another great video, thank you! I'm wondering why you chose BF over Sonlight, especially since you've included a lot of Sonlight's book list. I've been trying to research what the main differences are between the two curriculums for early American history, and I can't really find an answer. Is the main difference that one is more planned out than the other?

Sonlight came with Bible and literature/reading, neither of which I needed. I specifically wanted just history. The idea to add Sonlight books didn’t come until a while after I had BFB. I really wanted to stick with the picture books for one more year too and loved the ones offered by BFB

This looks perfect! I’ve been wanting to do a literature based history for my k and 3rd graders. What do you think about their US Geography though literature? Would they be good together?

    • @thepracticalhomeschooler

We haven’t done it and I haven’t looked into it too much so I probably won’t be of much help with that one 😕
