I am doing America's Story 1 with my 3rd and 5th grader this year and we are loving it as our first formal history curriculum. We are focusing on oral narrations after reading, the sketching and map adventures. Then every couple of weeks my kids take the timeline cards and cut them out and glue them on a piece of paper. Then they draw something about that person/event and do a written narration to make a "timeline booklet" that we can use to go back and review! We are loving America's Story 1. I think it's a perfect fit for us as a first formal history course at the elementary grade levels, but I could see beefing it up for older kids! I like to pull in books as well. Thanks for this review & flip through!

You did a really great job of showing this curriculum. I appreciate your explanations of how you actually use it. After watching, I can visualize how I will use it- what parts and pieces I will take advantage of. Thanks so much!

I’ve been evaluating what I want our approach to teaching history to be the next year or two. This one was on my list so thanks for this!

This looks much better than their My Story Curriculum. My daughter kind of hated it.

You mentioned using America the Beautiful by Notgrass previously. I would be interested in hearing how America’s Story compares.

Do you have an update as to how you liked it at the end?

I like your timeline idea with notecards. Do you have them decide the important information? Do they each have their own?
I'm so glad you did this. I've been wondering about seeing more about this. It seems like something I could manage. This year I am trying Sonlight and it's a little overwhelming for me. So many things going on simultaneously. I thought I would love it, but it kind of stresses me out.

How did you use America’s Story in a co-op setting? We may use it in our co-op next school year.

Is it a lot of teacher reading time for younger kids? Thinking about doing this with my 4th grader who has ADHD and my 3rd grader who is advanced. I’m concerned about the amount of attention required for my ADHD daughter.

Is there any geography lessons in the book?

Is this what you were using in the Fall video? Jamestown coloring sheet and such?

I randomly found the coloring sheet on google. But otherwise, yes, we are using it 😉

We love history too! And I'm having trouble this week because we jumped from Plymouth to the Boston Tea Party in ONE week with CC! 😱
I'm reading like 15 books to get it all in! Ha! Not really...but I'm finding SO MUCH happened between those two events. Oh well.... We'll study it again in 3 years. 😁
