    "Is this the perfect camera... for me?" is a great question to propose. I work at a video production company and we use a variety of Sony cameras and I personally purchased a Fujifilm x100F recently to add to my A7III. And honestly the Fujifilm x100F puts out more cinematic pictures than anything we use including, A7III, A7SIII, A7IV, FX3. there's just something incredible about Fuji's color science and sensors.

      I love this. I think we too often try to find the perfect camera, thinking that what the internet states is “the best” is “best for us,” when that can sometimes be furthest from the truth.

    I did the same here, I had an R6, and an R. Traded the R for an X-T4 thinking that it would be a better backup as the spec was so similar to R6 other than the sensor size. It was so much lighter, and had better video control, so I found myself reaching for the X-T4 and hardly using the R6. I ended up selling the R6 and all my canon lenses to get the X-H2s. Oddly enough, I switched from the x-t4 to the a7iv. I just had so many problems with my auto focus all the time. I could never tell if my photos were in focus until I’d get them onto the computer and too frequently they weren’t. Once I switched to primarily pet and baby photography the animal eye af came in very handy. For personal use, it’s pretty much family photo/video and daily life. The slow intentional feel of the fuji line didn’t quit fit my needs despite being a camera I loved. The one thing to consider when purchasing a Fuji camera that I was not fully aware of before hand. Is if you do any RAW post work, be ready to use Capture One over Lightroom. Lightroom just recently put out a update to help with Fuji Raw in Lightroom, but it requires you to turn on the extra feature for ever photo which takes around 4 to 5 second per photo. Capture One will make Fuji Raw's look so much better. And Fuji just killed off the Free version of Capture One so you will have to pay for Capture One moving forward. But if your just wanting out of the camera jpg's then Fuji is really good for then you should be good to go. So you may have to adjust how you intend on do post with Fuji if you use Lightroom. It's just one more step in post that I was not fully aware of till I actually started using a Fuji camera. And had I know it before hand, I may have planned differently.

    I bought the fuji for some of the same reasons. I wanted better video abilities and the fuji was recommended everywhere as the ultimate hybrid. Initially I was a bit underwhelmed but the more I used it the more I loved it. I used to spend hours and hours tinkering with pictures in lightroom and then photoshop with my old Nikon D5600. With the fuji most of what I do is bump the shadows slightly, apply film simulation and it looks great, I don't feel like there's anything more I can add by continuing to edit. It's incredibly kind to skin, I'm often shocked at how it makes peoples skin look better than what it actually was. I take photos at my local town festival in Ireland so blushed skin is common, I used to do every one the favour of reducing the reds on the face. Not necessary with the fuji for some reason. In Davinci resolve the skin tones are nearly always in the perfect position on the vectorscope without doing anything.

      I love how much my workflow has improved. Getting a RAW photo to a point I’m happy with doesn’t take nearly as long, thanks to the colors and film simulations, and shooting in JPG is so much fun.

    There was kind of the same dilemma for me.
    I was shooting with a Canon M50, and with the release of the A7IV, the price of the A7III dropped considerable on the used marked (as a lot of A7III users were selling theirs to finance the buy of an A7IV). So I sat down, and looked at the diffrent options that were available to me.
    I was doing a bit of event photography, and believe it or not I HAD SD card failures, and I had the M50 lock up on me once. And I realized that for the price of an A7III used (~1600 euros used) + a couple of lenses (35mm, 85mm and a telephoto, either a zoom or a prime, about 1500 euros AT LEAST for those used) I could buy a Fuji X-T2 AND a Fuji X-T1 as backup, a bunch of batteries, a 23, 35, 56 and 85 mm primes (so 35, 50, 85 and 130mm equiv), a 12-24 adapted zoom with an 18-135 general use lens. And also get myself some new SD card and a camera bag upgrade.
    Worst thing about it ? It never felt like I was downgrading in anyway. I almost never use fece detect and I prefer to put my focus point on actual people so the X-T2 is plenty good for that, video is the same if not better than in the A7III (4K30p with F-Log inernally, that's a treat).
    Sometimes you just have to look away from the obvious option everybody is pointing at

      @Christopher_Ray  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      WOW! I love this! That’s a killer deal! I don’t blame you for not wanting to pass that up. The deal I got on my XT4 was insane as well.
      That’s so crazy - I was ALSO coming from an M50, and had been wanting to upgrade for at LEAST two years. I’m an over thinker and spent far too long researching and waiting for the “right camera” to come along, expecting it to be a Sony or high-end Canon. It wasn’t until I stumbled upon some Fuji photographers on TH-cam (after a couple years of my friend whispering “come to Fuji” in my ear lol) that I saw them in a new light and was sold. :)

Didn't like the way it felt in hands, did a wedding shoot with both camera side by side, and see no difference (apart for the DOF, obviously). I decided to sell the A7III and buy another XT3!
    The autofocus for photos is very good, the only problem is the video AF, when set at multi zone / wide, the system is not as clever as the sony or canon cameras. I have the solution for you : if you set an autofocus box (single point) on your subject, you'll never lose autofocus!

      Nikon's IBIS is insane, I was worried about handheld video with longer zoom lens, but the result is pretty good. The main reason is the really large Z mount, which allows more room for the sensor to shift around. Sony E mount is barely enough for full frame sensor.

    I don't think your reasons were silly at all. I used to have xt4 which I switched to eos r and now have debated for the past few months to switch back to Fuji. Mayde trying xpro3? The reason I originally switched to eos r was 1. Fuji RAW incompatible issues with adobe 2. Eos r is full frame.
    But now I have missed and craved the FEELING and the EXPERIENCE of the Fuji. The total Fuji (so to speak) ecosystem of shooting is just more inspiring to me. I enjoy that the jpegs looks amazing and need just a little retouch if anything. Also I haven't even needed to shoot RAW that much. Fuji jpg's are so dense that they hold well when edited as long as it's not anything hard core. I also prefer make the lighting etc. decisions in advance. I don't particularly enjoy the endless opportunities when you can almost lit the photo afterwards with modern RAW files. I enjoy it when you NEED to make the decisions before hand and I also truly believe it makes you actually a better photographer.
    My debate with canon/fuji is still on the way, so will see what happens xD

      Any reason you “need” to switch to a traditional camera over your phone? I think the XT5 is great, but many would argue it’s a photography-first camera with its higher MP count and display design choice. I think you could get great video out of an XT4 for less money, but if you already have a newer iPhone like the 14 Pro or 15 Pro, you could film in ProRes or LOG and capture some really good video out of those as well.

    I made the same decision but I actually bought the a7iv. I owned the xt4 for over a year and the xt3 before that for about a year as well. The a7iv is not a fun camera to use. It’s also not significantly better than the xt4. The low light performance shows a lot of ugly blocky grain where as the xt4 shows film grain. The AF is of course better. Color grading Sony slog is tough because it does have that orange and it’s hard to get out.

    I am an avid fan of photography because of the beauty it captures and how it brings memory more meaningful with its undeniably amazing varying colorful shots. I am not a professional photographer but someone who just loves to capture memories. I had my my very first Fujifilm X-T100 mirrorless camera and I am so happy taking pictures with it. When I found out that Fuji doesn't have a full frame mirrorless camera (I could be wrong), I started browsing and researching for the brands with full frame sensors. I am honestly quite amazed by Sony a7iv having that sensor but this video of yours makes me realize that there is something in Fuji that can capture someone who is an avid fan of taking photos. Aside from the quality pictures that this brand can offer, the design really is something that will make you more excited to go out and take photos. Thank you for this ❤

    Hey Christopher. Great video! I'm very tempted to all in on Fuji. What lenses did you get?

      @@Christopher_Ray I've just started a new job & I'm doing videos & photos of cars. A mix of wheel product shots & then the wheels on cars. I was thinking of also getting 16-55 f2.8. I'm coming from the BMPCC4/6k

      Congrats on the new job, dude! And you can’t go wrong with that lens - it’s excellent. If you’re looking for a good hybrid camera, you won’t go wrong. But I’m not sure how the video stacks up against the BMPCC - I would almost be certain video out of that camera is better, but I don’t have any experience with it.

      @@Christopher_Ray Thanks! Yeah the BMPCC does set a high bar, but I think the quality will be fine for this job. I will miss BRAW though! I'll still have the P6K as my personal camera

    Really good review dude. I assumed you'd have 100's of K's of followers so to see you on 1k was surprising but I've got doubt you'll get there.

      Thanks! I appreciate the sentiment, really. I get that a lot haha. The channel is fairly new, and I’m happy with the organic growth coming from only ~4 videos. Plenty more are planned, so I’m stoked to see where it goes.

    I use the Fuji X-T4 and X-S10. I got them for the price to features ratio.

      @Christopher_Ray  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly! Can't beat it, man. For the value, the X-T4 is just insane.

    Now I am more undecided than before, between the a7IV and a nice, succulent Fujifilm 😉
