Just a reminder , if anyone leaves out live mealworms for birds , cut off the mealworms heads first as they can cause death by burrowing through the chicks internal organs before the chick has time to digest them. This is only one of many reasons they die.
Thanks for the idea- unfortunately, the parents would be frightened off if I did that and would probably abandon the best altogether. I think they will fly in the next three or four days and, as the weather is fairly child, I think it will be ok

No they won’t. Birds rarely if ever abandon their babies when hatched.
