  • Set to become the newest Great Walk in 2023, the Tuatepere Hump Ridge Track is a 3 day, 61 km loop walk that takes trampers along the south coast of New Zealand, up to the sub-alpine zone of the Hump Ridge, and over historic viaducts in the heart of native forest.
The highlight is a loop track at the top of the Hump Ridge range which winds around soaring limestone tors and offers panoramic views of south-west Fiordland, the Southern Ocean, and Stewart Island.
The Tuatapere Hump Ridge Track is a unique partnership between the Tuatapere community and DOC, it is a private walk currently operated by a Charitable Trust.
    Date hiked: January 2022
    Distance: 61 KM
    Duration: 3 days

It's a good one! Not sure how it's changed since it's become a Great Walk this season, but it's probably the same

What amazing videos you both produce. The way you capture the scenery is mesmerising and it makes me feel like I am there walking with you. The images of the incredible landscape are crystal clear and are complimented beautifully with your commentary and music. I am planning a trip in December with my wife (from Aust) and came across your channel whilst researching and what a great find it has been. The problem is I am not sure which walks to do, you make them all look so good.I guess it will be determined by what I can book. Your work is of the highest quality. Keep it up.

We're not sure how this hike has changed since it was turned into the latest Great Walk this year, but I'm sure it's still fantastic regardless! Let us know if you have any questions regarding other hikes!

Just did this walk, for me the walk down was tough on these old knees, great walk, the first day is about pacing yourself, a lot of boardwalks then straight up! You sleep well the first night, lol. I have to say the quality of this presentation is just world class, you truely captured the beauty of this walk.

I remember struggling on the long descent of the 2nd day as well, I think one of my knees was playing up as well. Definitely a beautiful hike though and a unique experience!
Has it changed much since DOC has taken over?
Thanks for the continued support 🙏

Another great video, Chris and Danya. Not sure that I'd want to do that track, though. I preferred mine a little more ... alpine, I guess. Still, even the worst track in NZ is better than the best in the UK!

The video work on this Chris is so professional. I did it the track on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of January. Three days of 25°C which was pretty hot for me, as I am overweight and unfit., which resulted in us getting in at 10:30pm at night! Thanks for sharing this quality production, and enjoy your travels. Cheers

Chris & Danya, you guys have become my favourite (New Zealand) tramping channel. Cinematography and shot choices are beautiful, colour grading is natural, the music choices are out of this world. Complementary drone footage and the commentary is not overdone. My heart rate and breathing noticeably slow as I'm watching these and you really let the terrain shine. They are TH-cam and story telling works of art.
I also love the contrast between the walking styles... Danya's compact & smooth... Chris's lanky and ungainly... ;-).
One question please... I am folically challenged and need a decent stiff wide brimmed hat! Where did you get yours please??
Thank you again and KEEP GOING!! - Jono - Christchurch.

      @ChrisandDanya  ปีที่แล้ว

Wow, Jono, thank you so much for the kind words and support! We are so glad that you are enjoying our tramping videos and that they have been able to transport you to the beautiful New Zealand wilderness 😊. We put a lot of effort into the cinematography, music, and storytelling, so it means a lot to hear that it is resonating with our viewers. 🙏
Regarding your question about the hat, Chris' is from Patagonia and Danya got hers from a outdoor gear store called Main Peak in Western Australia. Unfortunately the shop is closed now and the hat was their own branded piece of gear. You should be able to find a good one at MacPac or the other outdoor fitters in NZ though!
Thanks again for watching and we will definitely keep going!

Got permission from the Hump Ridge operators to fly the drone as long as it wasn't in the National Park. If I wanted to fly there, I needed a permit from DOC.
