This is why you're going to earn minimum wage your entire "career" and still have a mortgage in your 60's. Employers can refer to their employees however they'd like. The company is no doubt better off avoiding entitled people who get hung up on semantics.

    • @Sigart
      @Sigart 5 ปีที่แล้ว +94

@My Secret Account The problem comes in the form of "a team competing with other teams". Making employees work in such a way is a way to control, optimise their output with little to no benefits for the individual employee (but plenty for the company).
Factory workers used to work under similar concepts; it makes your "teammates" your greatest problem, because everyone will get angry with a person for staying hime sick, no matter how necessary it is, if it means their cut of benefits depend on it.

I know, right? I was once called to a group interview, but despite the red flag I decided to just go with it, maybe get some interview practice. I ended up being the only one to show up (red flag 2), and because I'd thought it would be a "HR telling us about how great the company is" thing, I hadn't properly prepared my 1 on 1 questions. It was cringe. Then I did the practical assignment at home and that was the 3rd and final red flag, because I quit.

Until this video i didn't even know group interviews were a thing. Group orientation for successful interviewees, sure, but not group interviews.
Seems strange to me. Like a company that can't be fucked finding a decent candidate themselves so they throw them all into a room to save time and hope one stands out. Basically guarsnteeing that the individual selected is outgoing and extroverted, which might be a plus, but not analysing the individual traits of people to see who would be the best fit for the company. Some introverts who have little presence in grousnare insanely capable in their line of work.
I know a guy that's incredibly quiet and reactive in groups, but is an insanely good team leader who can hype his team and keep em on track whilst not being a prick about it. Genuinely a great dude but he would almost definitely be overlooked in these kinds of situations.

The job was in their Singapore branch, and I didn’t want to move to Singapore unless I had a good idea whether the job was something I wanted to do. Also, not knowing what I would be doing put me in the position of not knowing whether the salary was seriously below the going rate for whatever work it was.

He said that sounded great and offered me an extra 2 dollars an hour. I quoted him a number that was two and a half times the initial offer plus better benifits, he tried to move the interview along to another topic saying we could circle back to pay later after I saw how fun and nice the facilities were to work in.

I once applied for a job as an Administrator with the Bank of Scotland. Turned up on time in a suit. There were two interviewers. They asked me if I was ok on the phone. I said no problem. Then they asked if I could answer the phone every 20 seconds, over 300 times a day. I asked, are you sure this is the Administration job. They explained that I would be a phone tree. People would say departments A, B or C and I'd press button A, B or C, all day. That was the whole job. I still said I would do it. Later on they said I didn't get the job because I lacked ambition. It basically said that if I think of an idea while I'm working for them, even if I'm at home in the shower and it has nothing to do with what the company makes, they own it, and even if I leave the company and only years later develop the idea at great expense and effort, the fact that I initially thought of it while working for them means they own it. I'm an engineer and I like to tinker in my spare time with the hope of someday inventing something, so no way. Salaried jobs don't pay over-time... AND no, there's no legal necessity for a salary to balance above minimum wage. The military doesn't... Trust me. I was a couple years at a steady .25 cents an hour in the military if you (conservatively) did the math... You don't even approach minimum wage until around E-6 or 7...
Hourly workers doing unpaid labor is WAGE THEFT... so report it. GET your evidence... This is why I'm always "wired" when I take interviews, and for the "probationary" period of work. I get tape on everything... It's only good at keeping honest people honest... and reporting those who aren't.
BUT when you show appropriate authorities (even Police have to enforce laws like this) video of someone specifically stating, "Oh no. We don't pay no overtime." There's a guarantee that some VERY uncomfortable questions are going to get to some very uncomfortable answers... shortly. ;o)

I conduct interviews all the time, here are some tips:
    1) If you wait 15 minutes past your initial appointment and they haven't contacted you about it, leave. They don't value your time.
    2) Be honest if you have been fired from another job, don't sugarcoat it.
    3) Don't show up 30 minutes early, we have other things going on. 10 minutes is plenty.
    4) Bring a notebook and ask LOTS of questions, it shows you are interested.
    5) Ask about culture, culture, culture.
    6) If you are negotiating salary always shoot for 30% more than is advertised / expected ESPECIALLY WOMEN. I can't tell you how many times people just accept the first offer. Trust me, it IS within our budget.
    7) Follow up in about 3 working days. Not the next day or that afternoon.
    8) When they say "Tell us a little about yourself" tell them a hobby or 2 and some reasons why this job interests you. Not about your divorce.
    9) When we ask you why you are interested in this job, "make more money" is never the right answer.
    10) Ask for a tour, even if you think it went bad. You get much more from us when we are walking around 1 on 1.

I went to interview for GAME once under the impression it was a full time position based on the job listing online which I applied via. I’m halfway through the interview and they then tell me it’s actually a zero hour contract, so I would only be working as and when they need me. I asked how often it would likely be that I would get to work, they said maybe 4-5 hours a week or more if it was busy, but it could be across any day so I effectively would have to be on standby every single day waiting for them to call me at any time to tell me to come in. I chuckled, said “yeah, no thanks” and walked off. Zero hour contracts seriously need to be banned.

They were very upfront about the 0 hour contract, as the amount of work varied each day depending on request volume. The only bad thing for me was the waiting around in case they called. When I was very young and naive, I went to an interview. My dad drove me, because something was up with my car (so long ago, just remember it was not available to me). He waited in the parking lot, thank God.
I walked into a makeshift "office", that I now know, looked like maybe they'd rented for the day. There were all of these index cards taped to the walls, and pinned to freestanding bulletin boards. Each card had a job description, and a dollar amount listed on it. They had me complete some paperwork, and some simple testing. Then they told me to browse the "available jobs" (the cards). If I found one I liked, take it down and bring it to one of the people sitting at folding tables (kind of reminded me of when you go vote) and I would be interviewed. I found 3 or 4 jobs that looked like a good fit. Took the cards to the table, and was told to pay THEM $600 to be considered for the positions. Apparently the dollar amounts were price tags? I didn't have anywhere near that kind of money, I was young and unemployed. So I go out and ask my dad for it. He tells me to get in the car, and we drove home.
He called and reported them. When the police arrived (not sure how much later), the place was an empty office. 🤦🏼 I saw people actually hand over cash payments. I don't think there were any jobs.

At first I thought it was one of those “trick” questions, trying to determine if I actually had experience or not. The interviewer then started to berate me. Saying I must not be that intelligent if I couldn’t figure out how to do such a simple thing. Meanwhile I had 15 years of experience on this guy giving me the interview, who was going to be my manager. I just looked at him and said, “Sorry, interview over”. Then I walked out.

I wasn't interviewed, but many years ago when I was a freshman in college, I applied for a bank teller position at Chase. I filled out all of the typical questions such as my information, work history, etc. Then I had to take a super long questionnaire that took me about an hour and a half. It were "What would you do in this situation?" questions. After taking all of that time answering each question to the best of my ability, I finally got to the end in which the website basically just told me that based on my answers, I would not be a good fit for the position. Thanks for making me waste an hour and a half of my life, you pieces of shit at Chase.

I had an interview for sales role. I asked the woman interviewing me what her background was and what sales experience SHE'D had. This got her back up as it turned out she was in HR. She then proceeded to ask me dumb questions about how much I knew about the history of the company. When I asked her how this was relevant to my ability to sell the product, she packed her stuff up and terminated the interview. At this point I proceeded to laugh loudly.
Anyway sales is a small world and someone I knew ended up working for them. Turns out they don't pay the commissions that they advertise and noome in the sales department actually makes any decent money.

I dropped out of college and was pretty desperate for a job because i was on my own. I had the hardest time getting hired, I was attending at least 3 interviews at one point but I was 18 and little professional experience, but enough to qualify as a front desk agent for a hotel. I was shocked at the unprofessionalism I experienced with some of hotel managers. One time I interviewed at an independently owned hotel and it went really well. The manager even told me it went really well and to follow up in a week. I called and said "Hi this is Veronica calling about the job" and he responded like "oh yes we are excited to have you start!!" I was over the moon happy, but then he realized that he was talking to the wrong person. Turns out that he interviewed another girl named Veronica and offered her the job. He thought it was her calling. To be fair, he did apologize profusely, but the damage was done. He very well could've bothered to remember that he interviewed two girls named Veronica and told both to call him. I cried for a solid 20 minutes when he hung up. I have also had a hotel manager I interviewed with tell me that I wasn't confident enough for front desk and that I should start off in housekeeping and work my way up. I told her I wasn't interested but thanks and that I had been offered another job. She got nosy and asked where. I decided to tell her that I was hired as a front desk agent at the competing hotel across the street from her hotel. That was somewhat satisfying.. but it was a long road to get there. I had another manager lead me on and not offer me a job after THREE separate interviews over the course of several months. It was ridiculous. I did very well in hospitality, promoted to front desk supervisor at 19, offered front office manager at 20, etc. But I am still annoyed to this day about the lack of professionalism and respect that managers and HR departments show their applicants, particularly young people who they know NEED a job and will accept that kind of behavior. I am lucky to have gotten past that and have enough experience and connections that I don't need to rely on someone else for job and I don't have to put up with disrespectful behavior out of desperstion for a job. Now when I interview, I interview THEM too to see if I'm interested in the and the company, but I know not everyone has that luxury, particularly young applicants trying to get their foot in the door. They still deserve to be treated fairly.

That means if a party of 4 all having pizzas would end up in you owing pizza hut money.
I just got up at that point, refused to shake his hand and got in my car.

Went to an interview as a passport photographer many years ago. It was in the store, so the current photographer was taking pics on the other side of the room. (I smiled at him as I passed and he gives me a weird blank faced look. Huh.). Turns out the manager who was interviewing me was kinda rude. I was working for a photography studio, but this job seemed to be offering a higher pay, but turns out they wanted you to work 50 hours a week at less than I was being paid at my current job but technically I’d take home more money. She also mentions that there is a high turnover rate. Then she asked about my experience. I say I have 2 years experience and have an associates degree in photography and she waves her hand and says “photographers are a dime a dozen”. And then asks if I was hired could I start tomorrow. Surprised, I say well, I have to give 2 weeks notice. She says “Well, that might just cost you this job.” I tell her the company I work for gave me s chance by hiring me, I owe them the curtesy of giving them time to find a replacement. She says rudely, “Interview over”, and stands up. So I thank her and leave, realizing that I just dodged a bullet, cause the look I got from the photographer was really saying “Get Out!, Run!” 2 hours later she calls and offers me the job. I kindly decline. An hour after that, she calls again, says that I’d be a great fit, and I really should just come on board. Almost a bullying tone actually. I decline again and 20 min later her boss calls me to try to get me to take the job. I tell him that I could tell the job would be hell, and explain why. Just the attitude that employees are “a dime a dozen” makes for a shitty work environment. Guy says “Huh” and says thanks and hangs up.

Walked out of one myself. Got called in for an interview for what was represented as "Electrical Hardware" sales for a large big box store. That's how it was told to me. I get to the interview site (45 min drive) and there's a group of us waiting to be 'interviewed' and then I see a "Kirby" sign set in the background. I sat through about 30 minutes worth of bull &hit and then everyone took a break. Needless to say I had a screaming match with the "Managers" that had organized this hiring event. A whole group of us walked out after we educated the company on "Fraud".

Interviewer asked if I was comfortable following and observing suspicious persons, I was like "I stand out a bit so they might notice, but other than that, sure." Then he started asking if I knew how to identify a suspicious person. I talked about people doing weird stuff with their hands, looking over their shoulder a lot, or checking for cameras... he said something to the effect of, "Yeah, those can help, but mostly I'm talking about skin color." I didn't exactly nope out of the interview, but I didn't take the job when it was offered, either. I think I was too stunned and just sorta went on auto-pilot while I tried to comprehend. Especially since I had worked AT THAT WALMART before and our biggest repeat shoplifters were 5/6ths white.

I walked in, the managers was super chill dudes, very relax. I was getting my interview for a kitchen manager at this restaurant, after like 10 minutes of chatting this these dudes one of them said they were going to show me the back so I can get a feel for it. Now let me say the front was like super super clean, I had really high expectations of this place tbh. I walked to the back of the kitchen to see what they were working with. Down the main line of the kitchen was a river and I mean literally like a running river of grease that was coming from the grill back their. I was like ok ya know maybe one of the pipes or something was broken, give them the benefit of the doubt here. I see there dishwashing area, normally in kitchens there is a drain next to the dishwasher and there was just that you couldn't use it because people were jamming food and napkins down it because they didn't want to sweep the floor properly.... ok ya know little weird. It I can work around this still I met some of the workers, they were pretty ok for the most part although this kid with headphones in kept messing things up because servers would come back after putting a ticket in to explain something and he just couldn't hear them.. later on they were closing and I stayed to see how they closed their restaurant. They had 1 guy for the dishes the other for the main line. This is normal for the most part. Dish guy got done and left before the line guy was done so there were like tons of left over dishes from the line that didn't get cleaned that night, now the line guys just has to sweep and mop the floors so what's he do? He takes a freaking bucket of warm water with hand soap throw it down the main line and starts mopping over the unswept floor.... at this point I was like is this even worth my time anymore? The answer was no lol I walked to the managers chilling in the office and told them maybe the job wasn't for me. The worst thing is, I'm pretty sure they knew why to. This is another example of if your the manager of these places *it is your job* to make sure stuff like this does not go on. They were like super chill people but you cant let your kitchen staff have control over your entire restaurant.

Front of house was pretty decent but as soon as I went to the kitchen I saw how fuckin nasty it was... I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt but then I was taken to the back area/fridge, the countertops floor were covered in sticky hairy shit... I immediately cleaned it because I couldn't stand a customer eating ANYTHING from that area, 40 min later I handed in my apron and left... While cleaning I spoke to the staff who either seemed demotivated or were rude to me and I realized what a shitty place to work at it was

I went for an interview for a company that was supposed to be contracted by a large cell phone company. I was lead into a waiting room by "George" who was very tall and, amoung other things, had a very distinct tie & socks on. I was then asked to wait, as "Anthony" would be out to get me shortly.
I waited, no problem. 10 minutes later "George" came out of the office and said: "Hi! Nice to meet you, I'm Anthony." Wait.... what? He was "George" 10 minutes ago! He then lead me into another room where I met "Martin" and started the interview along with "Anthony".

A few hours later he angrily left me a voice message saying he had been waiting for those references. Red flag #2. I’ve worked for unpleasant bosses before and decided not to wait for a 3rd red flag. I told them I would speak with the previous shift and then their manager(s) if it continued. The interviewer started laughing and told me "No. No, that is the wrong answer... just wow, so wrong." He then proceeded to make fun of my degree (Mass Comm, with a fine art minor), and proceeded to ask me about my apartment, home life, and other questions that started to get personal. After that, he asked me "how many days I felt I should be allowed to take off?" I told him 6 (we got 6 PTO days along with scheduled holidays, summer & Christmas shutdown, and emergency leave).
