Best revenge for a terrible interview is to accept the position and then not show up on the first day.

I've had an interview where I just dried up in the middle, like I had combat fatigue or something. All motivation disappeared, no answers would form in my head. That was terrible because the interviewers were several polite women and it looked like I was treating them with contempt.

I had one terrible interview. Had an interview for a sales position entry level right out of high school. I was asked why I wanted the job and I answered the question and rattle on how I felt I would be a good fit and talked about my accomplishments. The interviewer proceeded to ask if I think that makes me the shit (yes she said that word for word). Then being the naive person I was still stayed after that. She asked my expected salary and I said minimum wage because I don't have experience (again I'm fresh out of high school so I'm around 17/18). She said i should have told her I'd work for free. She called me a day or two later offering a job but I had a prior engagement and I made her aware I could not start the next day. She rescinded the offer. I'm glad she did because she was bat shit crazy

I have an English degree and paralegal certificate. I applied for a paralegal job and the application requested my college transcript. The attorney emailed me and we scheduled a phone interview. Ten minutes past the scheduled time he still hadn't called me, so I called him. He was annoyed that I hadn't called yet and scoffed when I said I thought he was calling me. He hadn't specified in the email but every phone interview I've had, they call me. During the phone interview he said "you have a lot of English classes on your transcript. Can you even do math?" I said yes, my current job is in book sales. He said he would email me if he thought an in person interview was necessary. I said it was not.

I had an interview with a local restaurant for a hostess position. The interview with their manager started off normal, until she started asking me about school. I told her I had taken a semester off due to Covid and everything, to which she started saying things like “You’re not ok with going to school but you’re ok with working?” “We have 300 people here every night” “Most girls don’t make it pass the training” I was only not going to school cause remote learning was an issue for me. Then she started questioning me about my last job which was a lingerie/pajama store. She mentioned “We use iPads here for everything” and I said that I would be okay with it since I used an iPad for my last job often at this said clothing store. She literally goes “You guys use an iPad at a lingerie store? That’s weird” Not much I could say since I was trying to be as professional as possible and not appear upset even though I was clearly being talked down to for no reason. Ended the interview with her saying “We MIGHT call you”. The second I got out of there I closed my application on indeed.

I'm deaf in one ear but cope so well that no one noticed until I was 7 years old. I use strategies, I work out what someone is going to say and tick the box if they say it, so I'm ready to finish their sentence if they stumble. I will record a sentence in my mind and rebuild a missing word, this takes a moment so I may say "Pardon" but answer the question before they can repeat it.
I was not aware that I automatically lipread people and rest my eyes when they are not speaking as it's hard work.
I got a call the day after the interview and was told I hadn't got the job, the interviewer told me that while he was speaking I wasn't looking into his eyes, that when I was speaking I did look into his eyes but that if he asked a hard question and I had to think I looked at the wall beside him. He said he couldn't trust someone that wouldn't look into his eyes while he was speaking. I lost the job because I am deaf and subconsciously lipread him during the interview.
I've failed an awful lot of job interviews over the years, they are jobs that I'm capable of doing and I give good responses at interview. If I declare that I am deaf in one ear I don't get an interview, if I don't and they spot something they don't understand I don't get the job.

interviewer kept asking him how he would get past a traffic jam.
OP kept giving wilder and wilder answer like "hire a helicopter!"
interviewer just kept saying "and if you couldn't do that?"
OP finally snapped and said, "well, then, i'd call YOU on the phone and ask YOU what to do, because YOU are apparently the ONLY person in the WORLD why could answer your own question!", then stood up to walk out.

I got there, waited maybe 30 or 40 minutes to see the interviewer and then instead of a job interview I get a sales pitch. I've ran into the same problem as one of these stories. I do a lot of contract work and I get dumb HR people who know nothing about contract work and they tell me I'm a job hopper. If I'm doing a six month contract its over after six months. I've started grouping batches of contract work together under a single entry on my resume because of dumb asses in HR. It also doesn't help that I work in IT which often HR also doesn't understand.

This was the interview for my current job. The day of the interview I get dressed up, but the twist is I have a jockstrap on. They shrunk over time and soon enough they became too small. So when I go in, I decide to come in early and show off my punctuality. The manager wasn't expecting me so I had to walk around the store in the meantime. As that's going on, one of the straps to my underwear pops and before you know it the manager is ready to see me. I sat the whole interview with a broken jockstrap and got the job. When I got home, the other side popped too.
    Just my luck.

On one interview (over the phone), I was asked this string of what I thought were oddball questions. "What sort of bumperstickers do you have on your car? Are you on social media? What sort of content do you post? What sort of slogans do you have on your T-shirts?" I finally hit my breaking point when I was asked, "If you were a breed of dog, what would you be and why?" I replied, "Look, are you interested in my experience, the hours I'm available, my salary requirements, anything like that?" They replied, "Oh, we don't care about that. If we hire you, we'll tell you what to do. We just want to know if you'd be a good fit for our corporate culture." I said, "I think I can answer that." And I hung up.
On another (phone) interview, while they can't ask a person's age, they can ask things like when you graduated school. The interviewer, I might add, sounded like she was about twelve. So I answered the question, and she launched into this unbelievable tirade about how I was "so (bleeping) old!" and ended with, "You don't need a job! You need to go off and die before you become a burden on your family!" Wow...!

reminded me of the time i was being interviewed for a volunteer position for the police department and they asked if i ever got in a fight and i said no. then they asked for a time i stood up for something i believed in and i proceeded to tell them about a time where my teammates (i was playing varsity basketball at my high school at this time) got into a fight during the game with a rival and i defended them and might’ve punched someone in the face so i can free my teammate from the chokehold the girl had her in. this probably wasn’t the best example. the interviewers said “um that’s a fight” we laughed for about 5 minutes and i still got the position, so weird

Oh, several awful ones. The worst was at a solar company where the last interviewer for an engineering job was some guy in his 60's who walked in and did not introduce himself. He looked at my resume and said "I see here you work on your own cars. What is the law that determines the voltage generated in a coil?" Before I could finish it was "How does a differential work?" I muffed that one and he smiled and shook his head. I forget the other questions but they were all designed to get me flustered and he was clearly enjoying himself. He finally said "Do you have any questions for me?" I asked about what I'd be doing in this position. He said "Oh, I don't know anything about the position." So this guy had come in just to mess with me for fun. On my way out I asked my contact "Who was that guy?" and he claimed not to know. Right. That company failed, and it didn't surprise me.

My worst interview was internal. Throughout the interview the hiring managers boss would throw hints on things I still needed to do to qualify for the job. Mind you I made it to the top 3 candidates. I'm assuming someone else was already chosen and I was being used to meet an interview quota. Once, I wasn't hired I accepted a job in another department. Then the manager's boss was offended that I took a job in a different department. Like Mike Jones says..."Back then you didn't want me now I'm hot they all on me"

This place is great! The job's great! Your coworkers are superstars and you can be one too! (love bombing)
Oh, we never actually meant that you would be earning X, but only with tips/bounuses/seniority pay. (gaslighting)
Oh, and you'll not only be doing your job, you'll also be doing X, Y, and Z (boundary stomping)
    (After rejection)
I can't believe you turned down this incredible opportunity! You'll regret walking away from us! (threats)

I had an on-demand interview (answers to questions are recorded and submitted) for a government contractor about a year ago, and received an offer for the job. I submitted all of the required clearances and indicated I would like to begin work in the first round, but never heard back from them after that.
Edit: I did eventually receive a request to begin work for the company, but the contract terminated after 7+ months, and it just so happened that the length of time worked there was one week less than the minimum required for me to be eligible for unemployment benefits.
I also had an interview with another company about a month ago where I spoke with four different people and completed a half-hour assessment (total time was 90 minutes), was told the job would primarily involve outbound calls when I was under the impression that it would mostly be data entry, and was informed by the last interviewer that I was at the top of their list simply because I showed up.

If it seems like they’re looking for a way to not hire you, it’s probably because somebody’s relative is getting put in that position and they’re only interviewing you to make it look as if they gave all other people eight opportunity for the position.
It really sucks, though that they would do this in positions where they are having people travel by plane to comfort for an interview. Pretty sure that happened to my aunt. She went back and forth to Boston several times from Florida for the job interview even meeting with the CEO and everything and then they come to find out that somebody who is related to the CEO is the person who got the job, it’s just really awful because people have no idea what’s going on and other peoples lives. My aunt took those trips while her husband had cancer. She was trying to keep the family afloat. They had no intention of giving her the job. Just wanted to make it seem like she was a seriously considered candidate.

The carpenter one was understandable (the confusion of the interviewer). He tells them that yes, he has experience bc he’s a carpenter, but hasn’t done furniture (ie, finish carpentry/woodworking). Then later he says that yes, he has wood working experience, bc he makes musical instruments. It would make the most sense to say yes I have woodworking experience, I make musical instruments as a hobby but I’m also a professional carpenter.
. FYI, carpenters and wood workers are very similar and share a lot of overlap in terms of skills and tools. But woodworkers will build fine handcrafted things like cabinets or tables. Whereas, carpenter teams build large structures like homes, fences, decks, etc. Less emphasis on fine detail and visual perfection, and more emphasis on functionality and structural integrity as well as coordinating with other trades to get the structure wired up, or painted or piped before a deadline. Woodworkers will stand at a workbench, inside a shop and usually alone on their own projects, and carefully hand chisel their work piece. Carpenters will be up on ladders, working in concert to position heavy structural beams, and will be doing all kinds of drilling and placing bolts and brackets and other hardware.

All these damn companies bringing in candidates for interviews, and for them to say they already filled the position during the interview. That is extremely unprofessional and unacceptable! As a buisness, you should be doing everything you can to prevent any negative feedback online. Which can cause your interviews to severely decline.
If you really wanted to do damage control, you find a way within your budget to create a position available specifically for that candidate, that matches or closely matches their salary and other expectations. If you cannot do this, then connect the candidate with a similar business in the area and have them reach out and offer the candidate a position with a 100% guaranteed offer. Bringing someone in for an interview, then telling them of someone else's good news is how your companies name gets trashed all over the internet and by word of mouth. 10:50 is a perfect example of a company taking accountability and creating great relationships!

Yea I was originally tryin to be civil but you’re right and it’s fuckin infuriating. Either it’s laziness or they deliberately do it to entice the bigots.

I don't know why you control freaks feel like it's a good idea to dole out a few words at a time, forcing us to read at a stupidly slow pace. It's more editing work for you, and really annoying for the reader.
And then you make it disappear too quickly for us to read the last line.
Had to stop halfway through because I couldn't take it anymore, and have set TH-cam to not recommend your vids anymore.
