Can you do a talk on BPD, bipolar and cptsd. I was misdiagnosed on and off for decades. I'm female with ASD and have cptsd. Now that I have done my own research with my husband we see the difference. Cptsd is more like a cat, you want to leave great. I need alone time. I would rather be alone than have people abuse me mental or physical anymore. Where as, BPD is more like a dog where they cling to people for fear of abandonment, they are very needy. I came up with that. I was not trying to upset anyone just trying to make it easier to understand for my husband and why I was not BPD or bipolar. Just female with lots of severe early childhood trauma that has ASD which is mild but add in all the trauma on top of trauma as a child and you can see how I was badly misdiagnosed.

I've been diagnosed with PTSD, BPD and type 2 bipolar disorder. Turns out I had these when I was younger and didn't know it. I mean I had all the symptoms but never knew what it was I. I was just thought to be moody, over sensitive, a worrywart and irritable. As I got older things got worse. I began to panic at and about the silliest things. I had anxiety issues around a lot of people. I'm glad I now know that there was an underlying reason for my behavior because i seriously thought I was losing myself. I just couldn't help myself not to mention I got in trouble a lot.

The beginning of your story is just like mine, but I still haven’t gotten a proper confirmation of the diagnosis. It might be schizophrenia (negative symptoms and some positive ones rarely) and I don’t know what else, but doctors suspect that it’s bipolar disorder, yet after listening to the video, The trigger thing goes with me, there has to be triggers that cause me to feel the negative emotions ( I rarely become happy but it happened for two weeks a month ago and my family are still shocked and they associate it to the pills that another doctor changed them for me. I feel so lost and don’t know if I’ll ever get a correct reliable diagnosis and receive the right treatment. I don’t even know how to speak. I was envious of how fluent the doctor was.

It means they aren't over them either or worse, still friends with them. Don't beat yourself up for this one, lots of relationship podcasts say this is a major red flag anyways. It took years to figure it out. But once I heard about borderline, I instantly knew it’s what I have.
It was amazing to finally figure it out. But equally sad to have to accept it.
Is have to write a novel to explain things in detail.
And a lot of professionals that give out a diagnosis have no clue what they are talking about.
    It’s dangerous.
And when your support group and family abandon you, it’s basically a death sentence.
CAnt go on... simply tired of being misunderstood.

Never realized having a chronic illness since 6 really affected me even though I had a loving family. I have finally found a physician, psychiatrist, and therapist (that team) that helps. Sadly, I do need meds because I do have major depressive disorder as well as BPD: Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Seroquel, Lamictal and Klonopin as needed. It’s a lot but there is some light at the end of the tunnel. I hope you find the balance you need though so it can be tolerable to live with.

It’s possible to recover from BPD, which no one talks about. For me, miserable episodes with my BPD are now (after years of behavioral therapy) outweighed by how elated, happy, and loving extremes feel with my disorders. us BPDs feel miserable in a moment and it overwrites all good memories and moments. With therapy one can achieve mindfulness to the positive sides of being neurodivergent, I promise. BPD makes you an amazing deeply feeling person and with professional help you can outweigh the shit with being present and observing the good emotional moments and episodes too.

I've been diagnosed as bipolar but was misdiagnosed as borderline recently by a new psychiatrist who noted that I was triggered by an end of a friendship and marital stress. What I know about myself is that prolonged periods of stress cause interrupted sleep or insomnia, which might lead to mixed episodes. I had also been put on an antidepressant which is another trigger for me. It was the perfect storm.
I think it's important to note that these episodes rarely happen for me (once ever few years) and feel very distinct, like being dosed with a powerful drug and not knowing when I'll feel normal again, and they typically last for at least a month and take many more months to fully recover. I might appear as borderline during mixed episodes but that's not my normal way of responding to my environment/interactions. I'm not at all myself during episodes and it's terrifying.

I work in mental health and it is refreshing to see professional people in the field acknowledge the difficulties in diagnosing these kinds of problems. Grief and trauma can look a lot like Bipolar and BPD and vice versa. If you suffer from mental health issues do not be afraid to go ask a professional person (therapist, psychologist, chaplain, priest, LCSW) for some help. Also do not be afraid to ask some tough questions. Being able to raise these questions can help. You are going to get yourself sorted out. The therapist is only there to show you a firm path to tread on.

the ancient Greeks used to consider bipolar disorder as a divine gift from the gods! A divine gift! Wow! That’s WAY different than how we are looked at today. How fascinating. “Mania” and “melancholia” were among the first two diseases ever categorized. Even Socrates and Plato understood that mania was a divine state with various characteristics such as “erotic inspiration” sent from the god of love or “proteptic inspiration” derived from the Muses. They even go on to say that the god Apollo is the source of this divine inspiration!

You may want to look into CPTSD. It can cause similar behaviors and be misdiagnosed as these (and other) disorders by well-meaning professionals who are not fully educated on PTSD and, particularly, the effect that multiple traumatic experiences experienced as a young person will have on that person later and thoughout their life. If you can access such specialized trauma-recovery therapy - see if you can connect with someone specializing in CPTSD and recovery from these kinds of childhood traumas. Though there are many factors that make these specialists difficult to connect with in-person, access to telehealth and insurance coverage for such treatment has increased a lot since the pandemic, thankfully. My therapist believes me that bpd is what im dealing with. The extreme mood disregulation really affects my day to day life. The more i learn about it, the more i find that i align with bpd.

What do you think is a severe delusion? My Mum was never diagnosed, but when I was a baby she said she thought "I was the second coming". Thisis probably the weirdest thing I ever heard her say. She also had a persistent idea that she was a great singer, who could've been professional if she had'nt had children. Truthfully, she was a very mediocre singer, who hardly ever sung but when she did- expected unearned, undeserved praise or she would get angry!

Psychiatrists and other mental health professionals in the United States are paid using diagnosis codes from the DSM-5 that lists each mental health disorder and the criteria to meet them. Currently, complex post-traumatic stress disorder is not in the DSM-5 so mental health professionals are left in a quandary, they cannot diagnose their patients with CPTSD and get paid for treating them. This leaves doctors and therapists no choice but to choose bipolar disorder or some other mental health challenge as their client’s diagnosis.

    • @tessakrumpeltree9563
      @tessakrumpeltree9563 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The DSM boxes both patient and clinician into a too narrow mindset. For example, the COMMAND that a pwEUPD tick at least 5 boxes of symptoms is arbitrary. I’m 72; I used to qualify but in later years, isolation has replaced some obvious BPD-ish behaviors which i believe threw a new (very good) psychiatrist’s diagnosis off. The manual is necessarily strict but its objective virtue also works to its detriment-or ours.

I have a BD2 diagnosis, but I'm really clear that I also have BPD (the "quiet" kind)-- what I've found (happily) is that treatment for BD2 has also quieted a lot of the "bananas" emotional stuff. Gabapentin stops triggers, and Lithium treats the mood. I've been very stable vis-a-vis the BD2, but I am still dealing with the other symptoms of BPD (most-notably, "tumbling" identity, and splitting on everything in my life).

This is absolutely the case with my ex. She's absolutely borderline and has highly narcissistic traits, so the minimization of her behavior and omission of any facts that would make her look responsible for ANYTHING in her life is exactly what is going on in her therapy sessions I can guarantee, so she's being medicated for Bipolar 2...and it has created a person that had a low level of empathy and remorse and was prone to fits of rage over anything or nothing to begin with into SOMETHING ELSE that's scary. It's as if she's reveling in her inability to care who she's destroying and enjoying it. I feel as long as it continues it's going to end in her total destruction. She was diagnosed only after a couple sessions, which is RIDICULOUS. I wish there was something I could do, but at this point cutting her completely out of my life and tossing the last 7 years in the trash can feels like my only option. Any suggestion on an alternative? I've tried to explain what she's doing, and of course it's taken as an attack on her ego, flipped around, and deflected at me without an iota of ownership.

@@Digital_Dweeb ??? She's already destroyed that. She had a psychotic break in January, obviously had another "splitting" episode where I was GHOSTED...IN A 7 YEAR ENGAGEMENT...this wasn't dating. We lived together. This was my best friend as well. It's the 3rd cycle of narcissistic abuse I've gone through with her. The physical abuse from her was ATROCIOUS at times, and the emotional abuse WORSE. She's once again gone back to her mentally challenged, illiterate ex husband's house to drain his finances until she disgusts herself enough to actually take a realistic, real world look at her behavior and the literal SCORES of living corpses(her 2 children that I also love included) that she has left behind in her wake of self centered, childish, remorseless, dysfunctional, wrecking-ball like cycles of unimaginably abusive cruelty. "Loving her like a fairytale"(her words, not mine) and the impact it left on me is as follows:
After almost 7 years of believing I was just too defective to love the “soul mate" or "Twin Flame" God gave me and that's why she discarded me every 2 years, I found out what “it"(Narcissistic Abuse) was…too late. Since my 3rd discard in February, I am now in psychotherapy 2 to 3 days a week. I'm recovering from my second stress induced cardiomyopathy in the relationship from the heartbreak. It's a type of heart attack brought in by sudden severe emotional trauma. My heart is probably malformed for life. I'm still at risk for cardiac arrest. I have NAS, bipolar depression with suicidal ideation, attempted suicide 4 times, actually being successful on the second but lived ultimately, and had a near/post death experience that will shape the rest of my life, CPTSD, and generalized anxiety disorder. I lost 44 lbs in 4 months. Her response to learning of my second suicide attempt was that she's the happiest she's been in YEARS.

Since I was diagnosed with ADHD my psychiatrist has hardly engaged with me this is over 6 years. He said that he thinks I may have Bipolar type 2 but says he can’t treat me for that only the ADHD as the NHS won’t pay for both. He follows me up about 6monthly appointments and he does it at random so I never know exactly when he is going to call.
His staff know or understand nothing about my conditions I feel. For example I had an appointment which I mixed up for 12am I stood of 1pm and when I pressed the buzzer no one answered … believing I was late I pressed the buzzer again, no response so I remembered something I’d seen on TV a and the guy leant his head on the buzzer and I did the same as someone was watching and I guess this made me feel empowered. Anyway after about 20 seconds someone answered … turns out they were having a meeting and one of the reception staff was really rude in turn (I realised in retrospective that I was rude also) saying they were having a meeting… what doesn’t help us that they put a sign on the front door saying that rude or offensive behaviour will not be tolerated and may result in the patient being removed from treatment … what a flaming trigger to me this is…!!! To really add insult to injury, I once was given a phone follow up and the guy was different and this guy kept triggering me, it was like he had no idea and kept judging me rather than suggesting … anyway I reported him saying his manner was abrasive, judgemental and was like he couldn’t get off the call quick enough. I suggested to my psychiatrist that he may have similar issues to me and guess what, my psychiatrist said he had … well surely that’s not very professional as that’s surely a breach of the other guys medical conditions…
Overall this just is rubbish… my meds don’t seem to have any effect and over here in the U.K. z it’s almost impossible to get any help as there is just no money it seems in mental health … some people can wait 3, 4, 5 years just to get a diagnosis …

It is also that your thinking changes when you hit mood episodes. I find myself changing views based on my mood episode/symptoms I am in, including how I feel about people. But, it's not so much that I'm "splitting" on people, as I have different characteristics and thinking and interpret my standings with them in accordance with how I see myself and my world. I believe the main difference there for people who are strictly Borderline - it is that they experience an event, think, and then feel (typically in that order). Where as in Bipolar, it's more like feeling something already, experiencing an event, and then your thinking goes along with the mood

I'm totally sure my bpd diagnosis is wrong, I only have a few traits but identify much more with other disorders.
My psych team will not listen to me though..I know they find me difficult but that's because I challenge them. I don't believe a couple of questionnaires during a time of crisis is a reasonable diagnosis method.. I felt my 1st diagnosis was made during a time I was frantic with anxiety and frustration with all the meds that were given me that not only didn't calm me but made me feel infinitely worse and I was angry about that.
Then the next psychiatrist I saw some yrs later just looked at my notes from the first doctor and because I said I wasn't happy with that diagnosis, I think that compounded their belief that bpd was the correct label for me..I also think there was a certain amount of laziness involved here they simply didn't want to be bothered taking the time and doing the investigation to look for other possible disorders.

When I hit her trigger which is sexual rejection, she breaks up with me everytime. No discussion, and she changes to a different person that pretty much hates me. 1st time lasted 3 months. This is the 2nd time. Didnt even matter much that we are married. Back to hating me. I really hope somehow I can get her back. She isn't easy, but she is worth it. Psychosis means a break from reality, so that could mean having delusions, seeing/hearing things that aren’t there, paranoia, distorted beliefs about reality. So being on the brink of psychosis would mean experiencing things similar to those listed but not fully. I was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder, bi-polar, OCD, major depression, PTSD, anxiety. I don't think I have borderline personality disorder. I believe I have bi-polar because it runs in my family.

It's interesting to hear the difference. My daughter is 15 and while she shows symptoms of BPD the clinicians refuse to diagnose her with that due to her age. Yet I'm hearing that children can be diagnosed with bipolar but I'm assuming not BPD? Why the difference in children?

I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder since 2010. But I have certain things that trigger me like dates like my birthday, and Christmas even New Years. I become so depressed. I am taking a mood stabilizer to regulate it. My doctor doesn’t see me as borderline.

Yes, I agree that you can have triggers with bipolar. I certainly do- not all the time- but definitely part of it.

BPD is more erratic and reactive, just speaking from what I experience personally, I am instructed to only take my mood stabilizers when it is absolutely necessary and those will be moments I just cannot get myself to relax, but it is also tricky because you never know when you will stumble on a trigger, so only medicating after the fact is so damaging already in itself, it takes soooo much energy to get my clarity back coming down from an episode ----- just that wait drives me into a frenzy of mania because apart from the trigger, I become so afraid of myself and what I might do since I feel so unhinged, so I tend to lock myself inside my bathroom. I relate with you, I can't stand christmas and family holiday seasons, I flip between anger and depression during those days, especially if the environment I am in is triggering itself.

The book "30 Days to Reduce Depression" by Harper Daniels uses a mindfulness approach. Share it! It can really help someone. Mindfulness is like a personal trainer for the mind.

That is a really ignorant thing to post on this video. Mindfulness doesn't cure bipolar or treat BPD.

I’ve always been moody. I’ve been moody since I was a small child. I remember being so irritable as a kid no one could look at me. I hid behind cereal boxes so my family wouldn’t look at me as it made me furious. My mom said I was a baby who cried a lot and she let me cry it out. I’ve done some research and it says that letting your baby cry it out is so detrimental to their development because a parent ignoring a child’s cry is not normal. Babies cry for a reason and to deny the cries shows the child that it is abandoned and no one is coming to help it. Therefore brain damage in a growing child. I am a moody, irritable adult who has trouble with anger and impulse control. I have no idea whether I’m bipolar or BPD. I see both disorders inside me. I value and devalue people ;(splitting behaviour) and I am confused myself as to why I do this. I think about suicide a lot but couldn’t ever bring myself to do it. I dissociate a lot. I have been diagnosed as major depressive and anxiety but I think there’s more to this. I also am pretty empathic but can become cold and numb when I’m fed up or angry. I lash out at family members and coworkers from time to time. I have bad misophonia as well where certain sounds trigger rage inside me and if I can’t get away I lash out or isolate myself because I can’t deal with it. I also have trauma from being abused and neglected as a child. I’ve ruined relationships with my family doctor because she wouldn’t extend a treatment for me so I got mad and wrote a scathing review on her business Website. I’ve ruined jobs and haven’t had stable relationships with anyone. I’m currently single and just working on myself to be a better person for someone else. I have a lot of work to do. And one of the things is figuring out what the heck I bave

Question I have is, when does one convey to the therapist that a person does indeed have a personality disorder? My view is that if something exterior has actively or has consistently done something to effect that person, then it would only make some sense that at some point that person will act in a manner that would be off course or in otherwise unusual. Could this be manifested as appearing hostile, depressed, anxious, or suicidal as means to cope with an exterior difficulty? If so, would it be a misdiagnosis should exterior factors not be explored first; as the primary labeling of this diagnosis is almost purely based on the most recent actions of the subject. Should those avenues not have been evaluated or explored first, it could appear as though there isn’t a cause and effect, thus establishing the diagnosis. Should this be true, then this diagnosis would be even more damaging, as the much needed exploration into the client’s root cause for the change isn’t manifested.

Hey, I'd like to know why all the mood/personality disorders are heavily discussed, but not neurodevelopmental conditions/disorders + learning disabilities? ADHD, ASD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, and other conditions affect people just as much, there's often misdiagnosises of mood and personality disorders when it's actually ADHD or ASD, people going undiagnosed due to having comorbid disorders/conditions but professionals not looking at the core issues, and/or because people aren't educated enough to see the signs and symptoms.

I know there are some video's that chat about ADHD, which is good! It's just not heavily discussed in relation to other disorders, and I have yet to find anything on ASD or other neurodevelopmental conditions.
