If you ever get to see Blind Guardian live, the Bards Song is a good way to see how good the concert is... the less words Hansi sings himself, the better the concert! I´ve been to one where he sang 7 words, the rest was the crowd!
I remember one, where he sang the first line and that's it. After the Song was over, his response was Something like "I'm kinda mad, i wanted to sing some as well"
no wokr, they could simply turn the mic off and you'd still have several ens thousand people singing every word, knowing every break etc,, flawlessly because it is iconic in the metal scene
Maybe with some parts on many of their songs, but Bruce Dickinson doesn´t let the public sing the whole song on their own (it may be some exceptions), he is always taking the lead on the lyrics, something that Hansi Kürsch doesn´t every time Blind Guardian plays the Bard´s Song. The entire crowd ends up singing it while he stares at them silently except, of course, for the parts he wants to sing (after all it´s his band and those are their concerts).
Quite truth indeed. It would be interesting to see which one of them is the most chanted, but I don´t know, there´s this inner voice telling me that is this one :D
I'm a die hard Blind Guardian fan but even i can come up with a lil band, probly not many know about them called Queen with songs like We will rock you and We are the champions that the crowds were pretty much into singing along. But i agree that the bard song is right up there with all the song afore mentioned.
MachineGodGaming honestly, I like the music a lot; but after watching plenty of live videos, I wouldn’t. The energy is only in the crowd, they’re boring on stage. I love feeling that energy flowing both ways. Exchange of energy, that’s spiritual. These guys don’t really facilitate that, IMO. Don’t get me wrong, I love the band, I just wouldn’t pay to be there.
Feel free to skip my excessive reply but comments like these have been seriously irking me for all my 20 years as a fan. You aren't "getting" it because you're what a lot of people might refer to as "a normal dude who likes metal" and that is just fine. It isn't meant as an insult, but I'm sure it'll come off a little dickish of me. Blind Guardian isn't really made with your tastes in mind. I know I'm shining an elitist douche spotlight on myself, but that's unavoidable because I'm kind of an elitist douchebag loser. I don't mean you can't enjoy their music, I just legitimately don't understand how people who aren't fucking gigantic weirdos with no social skills like me will ever get anywhere near as much out of the music as I do. It is for true doom murder head omega nerds who collected too many dragonlance novels and argue about which edition of Dungeons and Dragons is better for application to computer games. It's for folks who debate the connections between Stephen King novels and devolve entire metal forums into flame wars over whether or not the Drizz't Do Urden novels completely suck or not (they completely suck, btw.) About 18 years ago they had a vote on their website to choose the lyrical subject of a song on the upcoming album and god damn FINAL FANTASY VII was high in the running the entire time (lost to dragonlance). On their demo they wrote a fucking song about Monty Python's "Life of Brian" for fuck's sake. Blind Guardian is almost a parody of itself in how amazingly A++ nerds they are. Beyond the Red Mirror has a reference to Linux. It is nerdy ass music by nerds for nerds and I'm glad they aren't posturing on stage like the most successful American metal bands feel they need to. I think they're my favorite band specifically BECAUSE they don't look and act the way most metal bands act. There's no needless machismo, no image based bullshit; just phenomenal music played by amazing musicians in one of the warmest and most inviting environments you will ever see a "metal" band in.
Finally, you did it! So many more great songs to explore: Somewhere far beyond, Imaginations from the other side, Nightfall, Mirror Mirror, Time stands still (at the iron hill), And then there was silence, Fly, Wheel of Time,...
The live performance from Imagination through the looking glass is for me the best thing ever performed in the genre of Power Metal (Don't get me wrong, there are so many awesome albums, but live these guys just finds a new level).

You're on point with your assessment of them as very humble and respectful. Hansi from everything I've heard is an extremely kind man. I have a friend who was fighting a battle with cancer and she has no idea how they found out, but they met with her backstage. Hansi knew she had a Blind Guardian tattoo and she still doesn't know how they found out. He was so nice to her, hugged her, talked to her like a normal human being. And I've heard he's like that no matter who he talks to from another couple of people. He's a metal god, but he acts like he's so grateful to talk to any of his fans.
Yeah, I remember, and I am still upset that the video cuts so much off... also Mirror Mirror which was in between those two songs got cut :( Probably the best concert I ever attended
Blind guardian are one of the best metal bands around. You should listen from something off the "Nightfall in middle earth" album. Probably their best. I'd suggest "Nightfall". Hansi is a very underated singer and is well able to sing any genre of music
I still prefer Imaginations from the Other Side, being a fan since the early 90s, when my brother got their albums. Mainly because of The Script for My Requiem.
As sad as this is... i found Blind Guardian out coz of a stupid flash game... looked up the song... thoroughly enjoyed the song and started looking into more songs... needless to say i Enjoy Blind Guardian... lol
The crowd, epic! Being a musician, a crowd taking over a song is pure emotional enjoyment. That feeling must be magical! I won't stop until I'm there. And as a drummer, yes, he fucking kills this!
YESSSSS THANK YOU. Blind Guardian is such a special group. Flawless and magical discography. I’ve seen them twice and it’s an incredible feeling to be part of that brotherhood of singing fans with the bards.
What were they shouting? "Guardian!" The Bard's Song is famous for the audience at live shows singing it for them. Several of their songs get this sort of treatment, but Bard's Song is the best. Also, Hansi Kursh has probably the best singing voice in all of power metal.
I’m a Blind Guardian fan and I’m so proud of being one. That’s exactly what being a BG fan and a metal fan is. We know every word of every single song and we could sing along through the whole concert, just to support the band. That’s how much we love these songs. You cannot just listen. You need to sing them. Especially The Bards’ song and The Lord of the Rings. Valhalla just gives you a powerful boost!! Top notch songs. Ps: for those who don’t know, Wacken Open Air is the biggest European metal show (probably also in the whole world), where the best metal bands play for days and it’s held in Germany (at Wacken).
And then there was silence by Blind Gurdian is arguably the most epic song ever created. It's based on the Iliad, has over a dozen guitar leads interwoven into it and every time you think it can't possibly get more epic, IT GETS MORE EPIC. The constant build up just takes you to another place! Blind Guardian is the most overlooked and undervalued band in metal! Telling stories in an exciting, unique way that really engages you... The true bards!!!
The people's song! No other band or song has accomplished that feat. In every arena around the world, they just need to play the music. Hansi doesn't even need to do anything and it's still majestic.
Wacken, population give or take about 1,800 to 2,000. Wacken during the open air festival population 75,000+. Now that is some impressive growth numbers. Shout out to the municipality of Wacken, I've seen cities of multiple millions screw up events numbering 25,000 or less. This little town owns one of the most amazing musical events and it does it bloody well.
I find it fascinating that no matter how good of a singer every individual in a crowd is, when the crowd is large enough it always makes the same noise. A crowd has its own key. It's never off-rhythm because those who are too fast or too slow are merged all together.
Greetings from Germany, Blind Guardian and Wacken, thats the Holy Grail of Metal in Germany. When you have no problems with German Lyrics, 'Equilibrium' or maybe 'Die Apokalyptischen Reiter' are great Metal Bands from Germany.
Wheel of Time for me here. Well, to be honest I didn't think that upfront, but nine years after it was one of the songs that introduced me to metal just shortly after it's release... Yeah, nothing has ever topped it.
Germans love and know their bands! Hansi Kursch is not just a singer, he s an incredible singer! Seen him with Demons & Wizard at the last Metaldays 2019, it was not normal, soooo beautiful! I also get goosebumps watching this, the ambiance at a huge festival, when we all are one...and pretty sad since there is no hope for live gigs here. One year silence above whole Europe...
Wacken 2016 was one of the best heavy metal festivals I have ever attended in my whole life. Blind Guardian played on Friday night on the main stage. The day before that, Iron Maiden played there and nobody really thought it could get any better. But then came Blind Guardian, those totally likeable guys from the Lower Rhine region! Incredibly cool show, very good song selection, perfect musicians ... I still get goose bumps today when I think back to that night. By the way: Every year there are about 80.000 people at the Wacken Open Air ;)
I've been to Wacken in 2018 and 2019 (and will go again in 2020), every time I saw a 2016 Wacken shirt I got jealous about that lineup. Like holy, 2016 Wacken was amazing.

I've listened The Bards Song first time live in 1992 in Bremen and Hansi, the singer, stopped singing after a few words. But we, the audience sang it and it was so great that the remembrance of this moment will cause me tears in my eyes. Every time after that I saw BG Hansi sang too much. In this video too, because we, the audience, are able to sing this song alone. And I swear, when you will be there, you will cry the whole song. It's so great, believe me. I have seen it live five times. Awesome is much to little to discribe what's going on in the audience. Even Valhalla. The longest time I've been part of the singing audience was more than ten minutes. Next days I coudn't speak but I was so happy. One of the best bands from GERMANY. From my homecountry. :-)

@@dan6822 Depends on the channel, I guess. Some are more liberal about their choice, some are strictly "business". For the latter, it is easy to become flooded with mainstream Metal suggestions, thus becoming less adventurous. If someone does not keep a place for the lesser-known and the unexpected in his reaction schedule - the loss is theirs... Alex is singular in how he imbues his reactions with a lively and positive vibe, so I keep coming back even despite the preeminence of various "core" bands in his book. Check out the studio version of Blind Guardian's song "Wheel of Time". The live versions do not capture just how great this song is. It's very epic sounding and was recorded with a full orchestra. It has a Middle Eastern/Mediterranean feeling to it. You won't be disappointed!
I've known of Blind Guardian since 1999 when we had a German foreign exchange student in High School who "gave" us all the Blind Guardian music out at the time. There was a small group of us nerds in a small town in Midwest USA going around rocking out to Blind Guardian for years. Nightfall in Middle Earth was the latest album to come out then. I went on to love their next album A Night at the Opera. I grew to love the early Sonata Arctica music as well because of knowing BG. This band holds a special place in my heart. I had never heard such awesome music at the time. It's still rare now. The US just doesn't make this level of music.
Those times during a concert where it feels like damn near every single person in the audience knows the lyrics to a song and is singing along are simply magical. Awesome feeling to be part of.

I WAS AT THAT GIG. The weather was shit, the ground was basically mud, everybody was super-tired/exhausted from walking in mud all day, so the crowd wasn't even at the same energy level as they usually are when BG plays at Wacken Open Air. The crowd's probably around 45-50.000 for that gig, btw - if you haven't been to Wacken, go there. It is the most amazing experience that every rock/metal fan should experience.
Alex Hefner, you are on the right track. It is time to react to the mighty ICED EARTH, good pals of Blind Guardian. Try something from their early days

I suggest that you listen to these BG records: “Nightfall in Middle Earth”, “Somewhere Far Beyond”, “Imaginations from the Other Side”, “Follow the Blind” and “A Night at the Opera”, exactly in the order that I put them here. You will have a real blast!!
I`ve been there in the audience and i still start crying everytime i see this because it was just so overwhelming... Goose bumps from head to toes. One of the best concerts i`ve ever seen!
I think people request Gateways from Forces of The Northern Night because:1: It's one of their most approachable, least intimidating songs and a safer starting point than the older, blacker, harder stuff.2: It features the babe from Djerv on guest vocals3: That show, with 53 pc orchestra, 30 pc choir and top quality audio and video, presents their new and old stuff alike probably better, bigger, more majestically than any show they've ever done, setting aside the best live recordings with Vortex, who was obviously a force to reckon with in his own right.I would recommend a two-fer, with Gateways as the first and one of those you mentioned second.

The entire crowd ends up singing it while he stares at them silently except, of course, for the parts he wants to sing (after all it´s his band and those are their concerts).
@@mariojorgetoirac709 Judas Priest had an audience sing the entirety of Breaking the law
Attending a Blind Guardian concert must feel like a spiritual experience.
It's a great experience live
Well if they played "last Candle" in front of me, it would indeed become spiritual since i'd probably die !
@@joelmacdonald6994 LOL best concert I've ever been to!

I can say it: "I was there". And it was great. That night I heard people singing "Valhalla" till the dawn.
Odin: Who the fuck disturbs my slum-- oh. ...open the gates and let them in.
Yeah, I remember, and I am still upset that the video cuts so much off... also Mirror Mirror which was in between those two songs got cut :(
Probably the best concert I ever attended
Blind guardian are one of the best metal bands around. You should listen from something off the "Nightfall in middle earth" album. Probably their best. I'd suggest "Nightfall". Hansi is a very underated singer and is well able to sing any genre of music
I still prefer Imaginations from the Other Side, being a fan since the early 90s, when my brother got their albums. Mainly because of The Script for My Requiem.

What were they shouting? "Guardian!"
The Bard's Song is famous for the audience at live shows singing it for them. Several of their songs get this sort of treatment, but Bard's Song is the best.
Also, Hansi Kursh has probably the best singing voice in all of power metal.
Only one who could maybe compete would be Jorn, but yeah, Hansi is a fucking legend
I'd say the lead from Rhapsody of fire is a close second
Best? Ehh maybe, Daniel Heiman or Hansi for sure.
Kai Hansen? Michael Kiske?

Best description of this singer is "screaming from a mountain top in a storm" such a clarity but power in that voice.
Wacken Festival = 80,000 people near a village in Germany
Wacken, population give or take about 1,800 to 2,000. Wacken during the open air festival population 75,000+. Now that is some impressive growth numbers.

Germans love and know their bands! Hansi Kursch is not just a singer, he s an incredible singer! Seen him with Demons & Wizard at the last Metaldays 2019, it was not normal, soooo beautiful!
Blind Guardian is by far one of the best live shows ive ever been to, because of these two songs
