That was nice. I also had a match lately, where we chatted for a bit afterwards and my opponent (who lives in the same state of my country as we found out) explained how to execute his strategy after I resigned. I was very grateful as it was one of my first ranked games. The AoE2 community is just amazing!

Aoe2 community is wholesome. Other more popular games like starcraft2, CS:GO, GTA Online have extremely toxic communities. Feels really good to be part of aoe2!
I think blue is building his military buildings at the back of his base so if he loses his army, he can mass units before sending them in to defend instead of having them be created on the front line and dying to mass red army.
Continually appreciate your commentary. I have never spent more than about 10 minutes on others commentary online about aoe or anything else. I started using grid hotkeys in Starcraft 2 and it made complete sense to me. I could remember how the command cards look (or just glance at it), and associate that with my keys, instead of remember what each building and unit's hotkey is. The go-to hotkeys are very important though, and you just need to remember those. I always knew H is Town Center, and I learned Ctrl+V is Castle because I used to spam the "how do you turn this on" cheat code and sometimes I'd go too fast and Ctrl+V when the chat box wasn't up.
I can confirm that because of taunts many people arent toxic. Like I quitted a shooting game with this being one of the reasons. Everyone is so toxic that there is rarely any teamwork. However aoe has managed to make the community toxic-free which is so good.
I believe, honest, that it is due to this notion in FPS games that they are super easy mechanically, so people who are good get real mad when notgood players are on their team, where as this game is seen as incredibly difficult to master, so most people in the community aren't upset at team mates etc. I think that goes a long way to it
First we got t90 complaining about coinage in a 1v1... on a game called Age of Empires, Empires need coins... thus coinage is part of the upgrade order, you're an empire not a flimsy campsite. Now t90 complaining about multiple lumbercamps, so villagers can opt to go not one, not two but THREE lumber camps for extra healthy efficient wood choosing paths, thus improving overall happiness. I'm starting to believe t90 is the real low elo legend here... you need to step up T90.
On the topic of hotkeys. About 3 years ago, I hooked up a controller through Steam to AOE2. I filled it with hotkeys on the face buttons and the bumpers/triggers were used to make layers on those hotkeys with shift, alt, and control. Somehow the best Age of Empires I've ever played. Hotkeys are one of the most important things to learn.
I like to ctrl group my army buildings so when i'm in a battle i just press 0 and select all my barracks or castle and start creating new troops. I do that because i never used "go to hotkeys" and this method works pretty well for me, it just is a little annoying having to select all buildings and put them in the same group. I'm also very bad at the game lol.

Taunts are essential in any multiplayer game that allows communication between players. Without the in-game taunt too many players would just revert to actually taunting in chat, which is far worse for BM and more likely to be straight toxic. Its like Planetside 2 having "Your best is my Worse" always spammed when one side beats the other. Better that than them all going into chat to talk shit, ya-know? Gotta think about how players will act now how you want them to
Most toxic thing that happened to me (playing 10 years online now, on and off), ~1000 Elo now, is the timing of the "11" taunt, no return "gl hf" or "gg", the latter two might just be due to a lack of knowledge and not actually rude. Otherwise it's all smooth sailing. Sometimes even prolonged chatter.
I use the default hotkeys for stuff like buildings, such as q-q for house, h to scroll tcs etc. All tcs is mouse4, next idle vil is mouse5 and all idles is tab. The building selection is kind of the grid thing, I have ctrl+a for all castles (or ctrl+shit+a to scroll castles) and from there on it goes to the right (control+s, control+d) up to ctrl+g, then one row below ctrl+y (german layout) to ctrl+c for all stables, markets, monasteries, blacksmiths etc. without any real system, but I just recognize them through muscle memory which works totally fine for me. In fact, I couldn't really tell which hotkey I use for all barracks (pretty sure it is ctrl+s), it's like playing an instrument for me.^^

I remember in 2017 i met a dude from New Zealand named Linxy on Voobly, dont remember how we met but we became friends for a long time and played many 2v2s. Since im from Argentina our timezones were completely screwed up like i had to stay up from 3AM until 7AM on the weekends to play with him but it was awesome. Sadly due to issues with my pc and university and mental health i stopped playing but i miss those times Linxy if you see this:

I been costum mapping my hotkeys to varying degrees of success. One button for every buildable would be far better. W for wood walls. CLT + W for stone wall. F for Farm, CLT + F for mill. G for mining camp, L for Lumber camp. Somethings are quicker, other stuff I always forget. I don't have hotkeys for the gates though..
Red's worst mistake (IMO) is selling all his wood while keeping so many villagers on wood. Look at 30:50 for example, he has 47 vils on wood and only 15 on gold (while controlling the middle !), and just sold (AGAIN) a ton of his wood for a tiny amount of gold.
default mapping for hotkeys seems so much more intuitive based on the icon locations... QQ for house... QA for farms, WS for quickwall etc. End of the day it's player preference
T-⁹⁰ , you said you don't know how long we will watch you? I've been playing this since I was a teen, I don't think we are going anywhere. Keep up the awesome content.
Hotkeys are good to know, and give a significant edge over clickers, though it's probably more important to have good instincts and game sense. I've had games with hotkey warriors who crap the bed taking bad fights, as well as clicker noobs who've come in clutch with just the right unit at the right spot.
have been watching these vids lately. use to love aoe as a kid and making me want to install the game (if i find it). lots of laughs, and interesting info on how to be efficient. but i do have a question about something that bothers me. while streeming is there a delay towards game time? because i've seen a couple vids where players react to what the streemer says. if not, then i wouldn't want to play online
My actual favorite game of all time is Rails Across America, which no one ever played or has heard of. I'm pretty sure I am the only one who ever bought it. The graphics are not bad at all, but it's like a board game. They actually didn't even need to be as good as they are, because what makes it fun is the gameplay. Same with AOE. I actually prefer HD version.
I am Lithuanian, and here's a bit of an unrealistic thing: If you are a king commanding your troops, they should probably talk to you more formally, no? In Lithuanian, if someone is higher rank, to be formal, they should adress them in plural. We have a plural and singular versions of words when addressing someone, for example "You"... would be like "You all" or something like that in english.
Interesting. Spanish has a similar thing and not only does the game get it right, it actually uses a period-correct form of Castilian, not contemporary Spanish. English used to have it too, but the singular form has since been dropped entirely (thou/thee/thine/etc.). The Britons in the game use a weird mix of Old English, Middle English, and Latin with mostly contemporary vowels, and the only things that would have used the singular form are in Latin. But the Britons should be the Welsh not the Anglo-Saxons so they very much got that wrong lol
LOL! the moment that villagers suddenly decided to attack to the monk hahahaha. it was an iconic moment really like a scene from a famous movie. villagers were exhausted from the torcher of the monk and his cult but they were just staying calm. but then one day the monk decided to take the golden relic of ancient times and melt it down. that was the last straw. they tried to talk and convince the father but he make fun of them and their traditions and so on. a sudden silence...then they attacked at the same time and killed the monk. hahaha such a fascinating moment. hillarious!
hearing that T90 has BP for a pallisade hotkey has made me extremely confident that the default build hotkeys are probably better than anything he has. As for the gotounit/building hotkeys those might not be as good idk
It's good to be relaxed about losing in ranked, but it's the only way to play. Getting a good build order is the key. With the Cuman 2 TC boom I can play into 1250 elo, any other civ and I'll drop down to 1050. So if I need a pick me up after losing to much, I'll dust off the cumans.

Exploding sheeps will kidnap Tristan
Halfway through I had to switch to Sabaton music, only to return 1 hour later to finish the video.
Wow. Age of Empires 2.
It has been decades since I played.
The sermon on the mount goes wrong. 42:05
I think Blue played very well for what they did.
When do you stream??
default mapping for hotkeys seems so much more intuitive based on the icon locations...
QQ for house... QA for farms, WS for quickwall etc.
End of the day it's player preference
8:21 T90-Berry: "Wheelbarrow is _" Did you mean "cute" here or "queued" ? 11
We did it boys, war is no more
T-⁹⁰ , you said you don't know how long we will watch you? I've been playing this since I was a teen, I don't think we are going anywhere. Keep up the awesome content.
Saw this live and it was epic. Loved this match a lot
love the mention of sabaton, it sucks that people in the US don't like them
Some probably do, since the US is so huge
That one priest got John Snow'd
Which version of the game is this ? A voobly one or an actual game ?
Hotkeys are good to know, and give a significant edge over clickers, though it's probably more important to have good instincts and game sense. I've had games with hotkey warriors who crap the bed taking bad fights, as well as clicker noobs who've come in clutch with just the right unit at the right spot.
I also once chatted with someone after a game and we added each other in Steam... never wrote or played together again 😅🙈
Blue is a military genius
have been watching these vids lately. use to love aoe as a kid and making me want to install the game (if i find it). lots of laughs, and interesting info on how to be efficient.
but i do have a question about something that bothers me.
while streeming is there a delay towards game time? because i've seen a couple vids where players react to what the streemer says. if not, then i wouldn't want to play online
Rick the Psychopath. He changed ch for k in psychopath and fully confused you.
"Corner boy pt2" Isn't it Neutral Milk Hotel song?
Surrendered like a true Frenchman
*BEST STUFF EVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!*
I'd be really interested to know what your hotkeys are
Red IS French. The way he wrote its name is just a "gangsta" way to write psychopath.
the wholesome ending
is the AOE website the best place to get the game? I hear about vooglie idk if thats viable anymore
Buy it on Steam :) It's there as "Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition"
@@FloosWorld_AoE thanks :)
I am Lithuanian, and here's a bit of an unrealistic thing:
If you are a king commanding your troops, they should probably talk to you more formally, no?
T90 sounds like Seamus from Freedom Toons and Common Sense Soap Box.
LOL! the moment that villagers suddenly decided to attack to the monk hahahaha. it was an iconic moment really like a scene from a famous movie. villagers were exhausted from the torcher of the monk and his cult but they were just staying calm. but then one day the monk decided to take the golden relic of ancient times and melt it down. that was the last straw. they tried to talk and convince the father but he make fun of them and their traditions and so on. a sudden silence...then they attacked at the same time and killed the monk. hahaha such a fascinating moment. hillarious!
hearing that T90 has BP for a pallisade hotkey has made me extremely confident that the default build hotkeys are probably better than anything he has. As for the gotounit/building hotkeys those might not be as good idk
RTS Role,Troll,Soldier!
does T90 have a discord?
It's good to be relaxed about losing in ranked, but it's the only way to play. Getting a good build order is the key. With the Cuman 2 TC boom I can play into 1250 elo, any other civ and I'll drop down to 1050. So if I need a pick me up after losing to much, I'll dust off the cumans.
T90 love the content. Been watching for a while now. Idk how to send you videos/games to watch. I won my first game last night after loosing my first ever 9 consecutive ranked matches. If you have time WILD FANCY BEAR is the profile. I hope to end up on Low ELO Legends one day! Would love your input on anything and everything I need to be improving on
I always congrats the other player when they do well
I'm reading it as "Le Psychopath"
T90 really loves hotkeys
Hey I noticed you mentioned your hot key set up is on your wall and then you also mentioned the grid hotkey doesnt work how you like it. Would you be willing to send a picture of your cheat sheet or help me out with hotkeys. Im a Low elo legend and have been watching you for a couple months and youve inspiried me to try online but im scared to without hotkeys. Thanks again for all the work you put in your videos and thanks for the help!? ~Sho
Seconding this! I just got back into the game and am interested in multiplayer but I have no idea how to efficiently set up hotkeys and control groups. All tips are welcome.
I don't understand how LEL can have idle villagers like this. I am pretty much OCD with the idle villager hotkey.
