Wouldn't a 1400 with absolute water control have thought to make a few demo's? For example when their navy is on one end of the map but needed at the opposite end JUST NEXT TO A DOCK? When there's no archers just delicious knights and rams to demo?
LEL is the best. Provides a learning experience for most of us. Yeah yeah high level players are great and all, but it’s a given that they’re great lol. Watching LEL (because most of us are just like these dudes) and having someone as experienced as T90 giving advice, etc. is valuable.
I think watching these low level games is far more interesting. They tend to try some pretty insane strategies that high level players would never use which makes it unpredictable and way more fun.
I like how red has an army on the middle island that could prevent blue from re walling and adding a gate but it just stands there the whole time doing nothing

Kubulos is a legend honestly, I bet he plays megarandom all the time, but let's be completely honest. If you paired them on a team, they could probably wreck 1400 players. Red slings Blue resources while blue uses it to absolutely destroy the enemy, though yeah, blue needed to make more and he would've had it. Hell, if he got mangos and corpions, we would've seen more salt from red.
I love how blue played this map. I do exactly the same on maps like this. Red played just like the AI :P Did you see how blue made a bunch of pikes and sent them to the knights in the middle? Only he had locked the back gate and forgot about it so the pikes went ALL around to die to the castle on the side and the skirms in the enemy base :D
Playing like Blue is really annoying-sure, red could have played this a lot better, but doesnt change the fact that people who play like blue in this situation are seriously boring, annoying opponents.

However if that fails and the opponents gets through, he has nothing which was seen well in ca. 28:00 when Red could've just send knights to Blue's base and wreck it. Red has a talent at booming. However his attacks were quite poor. He had no navy or never tried to attack the sides. And instead of rams, he could've e.g. built a castle in the corner and made petards which are great for wrecking gates. Heck, even making Tarkans - who have a bonus against buildings - instead of knights would've helped. And as for Red anger; yes, Blue is a defensive player but if it works, why should he change his gameplan?
Is it a thing anyone else has noticed at this elo - for someone to absolutely dominate you, you call the GG, but before you resign they resign? Happned to me twice from the same player. It's like they want to stay at a lower elo so they can keep crushing lower level players. Is this a thing?
As someone who doesn't play AOE, red suffered from tunnel vision. Even if red specialized in land attack, they didn't notice the other two avenues of approach, they didn't push when the only defense was a wall they could knock down. Blues plan from the start seemed to be to starve out his opponent, but they didn't use the near monopoly of resources to their advantage.
Watching this unfold was a pleasure to watch. Blue saw the map generation and formed a plan while red was not quite able to adapt. And the salt from red was just the right touch of spice lol
The reason i find the"why dont we just play as well" so funny is cuz i do that when i feel like watching some AI fight when I'm having a meal or just feel like relaxing while munching on some snacks
T90, while entertaining, these lower ELO guys were infuriating at times. The eco play of blue was hard to watch, as was his minimum creation of boats. If you want water control, then you need to really "have" it. If he had created even 15 galleys along with just 5 cannon galleons... and maybe 3 BBC red would never have broken through the front door. Red had a better eco (but still low), and like you said he could have just built docks on the sides and overpowered blue with more ships. This is especially true with the better eco. Then he could have cannoned blue's castles down. He could have converted boats with monks and used blue's boats against him. He could have built more trebs to hit the castles faster and harder to get them out of the way, so even if they got sniped they would serve their purpose. He could have trebbed the docks. He could have scorpioned up to kill the boats, although I would have done something different. And of course, as you mentioned... he could have just gone in the back door and bypassed the strong front at the front door.
"These guys don't want to improve". As a ~800 elo player myself, i want to improve. But the game is so freaking hard, so many things to take care of and i dont have time to play more than 1-3 games sometimes just once a week. And of course, boar still kills my villager occasionally
Yeah, and it’s true also that ‘wanting’ to improve and actually ‘taking steps’ to improve are different. I don’t think it’s fair to say someone doesn’t want to improve just because they don’t load up skirmishes and practice the first 20mins of a build order, resign and restart. But the improvement will be slower for sure
to be fair, boars are terrifying. They have 7 attack which allows them to kill loomless villagers in 4 hits and they can take a lot of hits. Plus, they even have an attack bonus against scout units so luring the boar with your scout doesn't work that well either.
The best part was how blue sent in his pikemen to help defend his castles, but he locked the gates near his tc, so they walked all around the right side and got killed by the castle / skirmishers
7:27 in fuedal or early castle since all scouts can do auto scout I send 2 or 3 off to explore and in no time it's all done while I control my army or another scout looking at the enemy myself
Blue would have had an easier time if he had massed Galleons, Cannon Galleons and Demo Ships. He had the gold and the wood to commit to full water. Btw, is commiting to fishtrap only for food income a viable strategy? Hoe many fishing ships do you need to justify the cost?
He had almost no food eco. I think his strategy was to focus exclusively on fish for food, but ran out before he could even get farms up to keep his main TC pumping? Either way, I think after blue sees red throw his entire military at his gates he'd have been better making 3-4 demo ships, skipping galleons, and expanding his farms. That's literally all he needed to wipe red's entire army. Going full fish traps is definitely viable, I think the return is actually better/faster than farms, but the real problem with doing it is just the higher *upfront* cost: each trap is 100 vs 60 wood and that definitely adds up if you're talking 20-30 fish traps. It's less a "justify the cost" concern and more a "am I going to get raided to death before I even get fish traps set up" concern. Fish traps being so expensive also makes them juicier targets than farms for raids. Malay fish traps are amazing because they're only slightly more expensive than a farm and even get x3 food on top.
It depends as always. The problem is, the food income is slower than farms and it takes to long to have a good food income, but the cost benefit is better than farms, besides most of the cases you won't have the time to build a good food income from ships before getting slapped, and you need to win water.
That's why it's 700 ELO. But it's easier for Blue to improve higher than Red because strategically his play is solid. All he needs to do is hit that vil button

I've always had the opinion of demo and petards: why build a weapon that destroys itself with one use? I've seen the light with some of the epic matches you have shown and your comments, but I suspect LELs feel the same way I used to.
If you feel like your APM is not good enough to manage your scout, use patrol scouting, just shift click on areas and make sure they never stand still in enemy base, thats it
As a player hovering around 1100 + - 200 elo trying out new strats, I have had nightmares about being hosted as a low-elo legend. 600 hours of playtime, after all. I've survived so far... Lord have mercy on my steam account.
Afaik T90 casts LEL on tuesdays, so if you avoid that day, you're fine :P I mostly play and stream my games on mondays and was therefore lucky to be not featured yet 11

T90 is a decent player. Arguably in top 100. Yet he enjoys casting players from every level. His passion for AoE2 is on another level.
