I stopped going to dealerships. I'm handing out my keys to my $40,000 vehicle to the oil change kid, a job they give to the dumbest kid in the shop, to work on my vehicle with no supervision. Without exaggerating every dealership I have taken my new vehicles to(3 for Toyota, and 1 for Ford), they have overfilled my oil, by alot. I take it back and tell them every time, and they get pissy and say it won't hurt anything, then i ask them why they have a max level on the dipstick then. They give me a blank stare and take my keys and take 3/4 of a quart out. Unless you need warranty work, stay the hell out of dealerships. The salesmen are sleezebags, and pathological liars, the finance person, is even worse trying to slip every extra expense past you that they can hoping you wont notice, and people think they can just stroll across the dealership to service dept and expect honesty and integrity lol. Car dealerships are portals to hell.
You ain’t lying , I just hit 4K miles on my 2021 cx5 turbo and guess why I’m watching this video ? Well you guessed it , I’m doing this myself oh and don’t feel so bad , like many others, I also got shafted at the stealership
Hi, Richard Thanks for watching and subscribing, I appreciate it. I feel that the cx5 is one of the easiest oil changes you can perform. I will make more videos about maintenance on the cx5 in the future.
Hi, there is no repair instruction that says to pre-fill oil filter, some heavy-duty equipment requires this, but not passenger cars. if this was the case I would have destroyed hundreds of engines by now. I would pre-fill oil filter if you let the engine oil drain overnight or for several hours or after engine rebuild, but after a simple quick oil service, it is not required. However, the pre-filling of the filter is a good way to ensure quick oil pressure. especially on high mileage vehicles.. I hope that answers your question
I will also do the first oil change soon. I've got 900 km on it. I have the same awesome red color signature model. I had it lowered with H&R springs and bought new bronze Niche Gamma wheels. I absolutely love it so far. You're very fortunate that you could perform your own work in a proper shop.
you are one step ahead of me, I just got my springs yesterday. I will put them on during the weekend. This color is awesome!!! That's a cool wheel choice did you go bigger or keep it 19? yeah, I guess it's a perk of the job cheers. feel free to subscribe. I will make more cx5 related material
Great video. Just got myself a 2021 CX-5 Signature. It's also my first ever new vehicle. I do all my own work and the CX-5's look to be some of the easiest vehicles to work on in this day and age. Much easier than my Speed3 even. I saw some horror shows when I was a tech from other brands.. Glad you're posting videos about the turbo models. I'd love to see more come! Subscribed to ya.

Thank you Mazda / Ford who ever owns you any more. The fact these engineers took this long to slap the filter and drain plug right next to each other baffles me.
Might be a good idea to have an oil analysis done as well to look at wear and fuel dilution. I'm going to try one of the Oil Analyzers kits from Amsoil to keep tabs on my '23 Turbo.
Years ago I used to change oil on the floor in the apartment parking lot. You can use some ramps for more ground clearance. Buy a basic ratchet set. It doesn't take much to change the oil. It's really easy. Thanks for watching and subscribe if you can.
I have a 2022 Mazda 3 Turbo with the same engine. The manual doesn’t say anything about a break-in oil change. Is that something the CX5 manual says to do it is that just your preference? Thanks for the video!
on the cx5 it is not necessary, I just prefer to do it. these days high performance vehicles like BMW M cars , MB amg's, corvettes and other cars still require them though
Since most wear occurs early on as engine parts seat against each other, some believe it's beneficial to do an early oil change to get any of those wear metals out.
This video illustrates the reason why I do my own oil changes. Notice how he removes the oil filter before the pan is drained, causing an unnecessary oil spillover. Huge mess. Then the dude did not replace the crush washer, even when the filter came with a brand new one.
That was my car, the crush washer was replaced, it is not included, but seperate! And the filter still contains oil no matter if the oil was drained or not. The purpose of filters is also also hold enough oil for cold starts! Whats up with the hostilities man😅
You have to go with the recommendation of manufacturer, the cx5 turbo gets 5 -30 the n/a get 0-20.... I have no idea what car you have. I follow their rules and never have an issue👍
Hey, are you on the Reddit sub "Tools"? That Husky box (with side) looks exactly like a guy's on there that I've seen post sometimes. I dig that other person's white/black MATCO box as well. PS: I see those KNIPEX Cobra's bruh!
That wasn't me, but I did post in the reddit cx5 section before. Actually my side cabinet is custom. I bought from harbor freight and attached it, and vinyl wrapped the door. I like some expensive boxes, but I'm perfectly fine with husky, I would rather buy expensive tools than a box, but I really like husky boxes 😄they are stepping up big time, thanks for watching 👍
@@garagepursuits8158 OIC, thx! FYI, HUSKY does make side boxes for that. Anyway, as for some things different or to show: 1. I'd use a breaker bar on the oil plug to loosen, but that's me. 2. You didn't show if you put a new oil plug compression washer on the plug, or merely reused it. 3. I'd lift the sockets and tools closer to your face/camera so we can see what sizes you're using. Would be helpful. 4. Does the plug have a torque setting? I saw you just "snugged it a bit." 5. Is Castro the only MAZDA "approved" oil for use? My dealer uses Castro, but it's NON-synthetic! I'd assume Synthetic is fine. Thx!
My GT Reserve is 9 months/2500 miles. It says 7500 or one year but I may have my dealer do the first complimentary oil change now. I'll do the rest thereafter. Love how the filter and plug are designed for service. Can't decide on Mobil 1 or Castrol. Thanks for the video!
I just did the oil change on my 2020 CX-5 Signature model. I've noticed after putting in the entire 5QT jug of Pennzoil 5W-30 Full Synthetic that the oil is only touching the bottom hole on the dipstick. The manual says with filter change it should take 5.1 quarts. I've gotten more oil to add if necessary. I will keep a close eye on it. Don't want to starve the turbo. Did you notice this when performing the oil change on your vehicle?
I think my oil level was in the middle of both dots, maybe you drained yours a while longer than me. I would start the engine and check again, add oil until it's between both dots.
Yes, it appears to require more than 5 quarts of oil. So adding extra oil to ensure the correct level on the dip stick is required. Also, I understand that the manufacture is requesting a synthetic blend for the 2020/2021 mazda CX 5 grand touring reserve. I'm not sure why this is but when I purchased a preowned mazda 2021 CX 5 grand touring reserve (turbo of course) the sales man said something about full synthetic not doing very well with the turbo on this particular vehicle. Today I'm going to change my oil to 5w - 30w full synthetic 20,000 mile oil and 20,000 mile synthetic filter (Supertech) and will let you know if there is any problems with the turbo or if the vehicle runs odd.
Hi, most modern car dont require what we call a break in oil service anymore. Mazda also doesnt require this. The first oil change is due at 7500 miles i believe, make sure to check the maintenance schedule. I wanted to do a break in oil service as piece of mind.
