- Mid-camp,Don discovers he has ran out of gas, provoking an unexpected hiking mission to New Mills to replenish supplies.
Starting at Chinley the lads explore the moorland road high up in the hills with views of Manchester, Liverpool and the Welsh mountains before descending into Birch Vale for the first time.
The journey to New Mills is continued along the Sett Valley Trail, where they check out a random mountain bike trail. Once in New Mills they look for gas and get lunch whilst watching some innovative energy creation.
Setting out from New Mills they follow the River Sett until deviating inland to be confronted by a defiant chicken. However once past this obstacle they soon meet another as the path is closed.
This forces a diversion up to Furness Vale and past the Peak Forest Canal. After a further bit of field walking they reach Brierley Green where they encounter a 125 year old pony.
The final section takes them back in to Chinley and then on to the campsite... but was the mission a success?
Jan enquires about the whereabouts of Don's chopper, and Don gets warmed up by a horse.
Nice one, mica hardware on albion Road would have had gas, but enjoyable walk, a tad muddy though. The chips looked good.
The first time we ever went to New Mills I bought gas from that hardware shop, but totally forgot about that on the day. I think the chips were a big distraction!
It was the same kind of gas that you gave us when we visited the bees.
13 miles for a bag of chips…………..& no gas 😂
Hey Steve, it was quite funny, but not that unusual for us. We did 19.2 miles for fish and chips on the Cardigan to Newport stretch of the coast path! But yes no gas, couldn't believe it, luckily Jan had just enough left to tide us over for the rest of the trip.
@@jananddongetout Planning to do the Ceredigion Coast Path walk next June ( inspired by your good selves)
Steve, that’s such a great section. Never too far away from a bus route if it goes wrong, beautiful places like Aberaeron and Llangrannog for a pint, and Mwnt - brilliant for a swim. A great mix of wilderness and civilisation, just right. Enjoy!
