How to keep excess aida fabric under control with your Q-snap.

  • One of the most difficult parts about doing a sizeable full-coverage needlework project (like a HAED) is how large the fabric is. This is a daunting situation for most people and up until a year ago, it was for me too. I tried many ridiculous ways to keep it under control. Now I use ribbons and roll my excess fabric and then implement custom-made grime guard covers to not only protect the project but also cover all of the excess fabric.
My way of controlling extra fabric on my large cross-stitch projects with a q-snap and lowery stand... I usually stitch large full coverage projects and it's a huge mess of aida... until I began doing this. It keeps everything tidy and I can stitch efficiently. This video is long as it is detailed.
I'm also considering starting flosstube videos and stitch with me videos, so I do not have any videos of my stitching with this method of fabric control YET... so I hope the video shows enough.... and is not too difficult to watch or follow. I am far from a professional vlogger. Thanks for your support and as always, Awen!

This is the first video I did without a detailed explanation.
    • How to control excess ...
I do apologize for the cockatoo's loudness in the video. Kuzco is our dear sweet boy and if he thinks we are talking to someone without him, or he is lonely... well, he has a little tantrum.

This is a brilliant system. I will definitely be implementing this soon. I'm terrified of using hair clips because I also don't want tears in my fabric.

I am glad it helps. I have never had good things happen with hair clips. They tend to ruin fabric and I have seen a few people end up with a hole in a full-coverage piece after so much work.

Thank you! I tried the hair clip, did not work for me. The ribbon works for me.

I am so glad it helps. This has been a tremendous game-changer for me. It makes like soooooo much easier and protects my fabric.

How do you get all those wrinkles out, especially when the
Linen comes packaged with hard creases that won’t iron out?

      Wash it

I actually stitch with the wrinkles and as I go they come out because of the tension of my q-snap. I do not wash until I am finished.

They have never come out for me when washed and ironed. The Qsnaps must be miracle workers then because the hard creases have been impossible for me to remove in the starched/folded Aida. Hence, I never use it. Too much work to chance that in my end result. That’s just my experience and tip, not necessarily everyone else’s.

@@cynthia8022 What kind of fabric are you using? Mine is relatively soft to begin with and thankfully not difficult to finish. I buy mine from a lady online called Tinge of Color.
