A Romanian guy I was working with told me that outside every high rise apartment block in Romania, there’s a man squatting down, eating sunflower seeds, drinking beer and insulting/ complimenting everyone who walks past. I told my Spanish dad about this and he told me they have the same man in Spain.
In Northeast China, sunflower seeds are called "mao ke" (Slavic snacks) because both Russian empire soldiers and the Soviet Red Army showed a good appetite for them when they arrived.
@latelunar7573 Great, I'll try to find an oriental grocery store in Columbus, Ohio. I wonder why they don't grow this kind of sunflowers in the states. What we normally find is half the size.
It depends where you are, here in Israel we also only put them in some salt and flour in water and roast them a bit, it's very popular and also quite healthy ❤
Bro my sister's son was at my house cuz my sister had some work. So i gave my nephew some sunflower seeds and he ate them with the shell. I thought he knows how to eat it man what do I do now!?
We have in Spain. Pipas. Keep the bleck shell and put flavor powder on it . Roasted . Then you eat as a snack. Suck the flavor out &remove the shel in your mouth and spit out. We have MANY MANY flavor like barbacoa, ham, cheese, salt.
They actually keep the black coating
Stores also sell unpeeled sunflower seeds, y'know?
This is the bigger variety and the seed is eaten as a vegetable..
Not as a snack in store😅
Depends where @@DBT1007

That's not true.
Some keep them, some peel them.
I like that sunflower seeds seem to be a common snack almost everywhere

I have only had this one time in different state but i keep looking for it every where thinking i might get lucky one day.
Nope…,might be the processing case in this video, but the white variety of sunflower does exist…

Boy, these are some large sunflower seeds. I don't think I've ever seen them in the USA. Oy.
You can usually find them at a chinese grocer, either cooked or raw.

Why take the black from the shells?
uhh im eating them as the black and white stripes (i dont eat the outside only the inside)
Black coating? The raw sunflower seeds I buy have no shells on them. Did I miss how they got the shells off?
someone peeled them for you before
Is the skin safe for human consumption?? Should I remove it??
Normally u remove it. U eat the seed inside.
Wait your not meant to eat the outside?

No you roast them in butter like corn and eat them still on the flower
they're eaten in eastern Europe United States China Middle East
everyone eats them
I've had experience with Chinese brands before, and yeah, removing the black coating is, well... not universal to say the least
