Here you can explore Lake Keowee’s 71 islands, winding channels, and pristine waters. Boat rentals are available, and you can even visit Lake Jocassee’s 27 waterfalls by boat. Don’t miss the natural waterslide at Long Shoals Wayside Park (like we did, lol)!
Upper Whitewater Falls: North Carolina’s Tallest Waterfall! At a staggering 411 feet, Upper Whitewater Falls is not only the highest waterfall in North Carolina but also the tallest east of the Rockies. Nestled within the Nantahala National Forest, this majestic cascade is a must-see for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike.
📍 Where to Find It Upper Whitewater Falls: Located just 60 miles from downtown Asheville, Upper Whitewater Falls graces the Jocassee Gorge area in Jackson County. The drive to the falls is scenic, but be prepared for winding roads as you approach this natural wonder.
🅿️ Upper Whitewater Falls Parking Info: The parking lot accommodates around 50 cars, with some spaces reserved for RVs and buses. Arrive early to avoid crowds, especially during peak seasons. A $3 parking fee supports ongoing park improvements, and an annual pass for $15 grants access to nearby attractions like Dry Falls and Whiteside Mountain.
🌲 Upper Whitewater Falls Trail and Views: A short, paved quarter-mile path leads to the primary overlook, offering breathtaking views of Upper Whitewater Falls. The Blue Ridge Escarpment provides the dramatic backdrop as the falls plunge toward Jocassee Lake.
