This is a demonstration video of a 40' bus roadeo competition course. It uses a combination of drone footage from above and first-person POV footage from a camera worn by the driver.
This is absolutely the most phenomenal visual of what a bus roadeo is all about that I've ever seen! I competed in four APTA international roadeos (San Francisco '87, Montreal '88, Houston '90, and Toronto '91) and placed 3rd, 8th, 15th and 4th respectively). Never quite got that gold ring I was after, but did pretty well out of fields of over 100 each year. Actually scored a 648, and a 649, out of 650 in two consecutive years in the state competition. Whenever I re-live the "glory days" a little bit, and try to explain what the heck a "bus roadeo" to anyone, they don't get it. From now on, I'm going to show them this video! For the past 17+ years, I've been driving my own "bus" - our 43' Newmar Mountain Aire. Whenever anyone says that I seem to be particularly good at maneuvering it, I sometimes mention that I used to drive tour buses for a living (in NYC no less!) and even ran the company's training program, too. I don't bother mentioning anything about roadeos though, figuring that people will wonder what riding horses has to do with driving a motorhome. LOL Thanks so much for posting this. I was so excited to find it. Brought back great memories.
