Honestly I thought it was pretty straightforward. Sure it didn't have the big old lore payoffs that Witch Queen did but there's not really a lot of room for those left at this point, certainly not without them becoming contrived.
My dude went through the whole campaign basically not upgrading the power level of like any of his gear lol they give you upgrade modules in the campaign. Love the enthusiasm for the game though
They didnt know what to do with it because (I would hope) they are leaving the best content for the final shape, either way the lore is still amazing and I would hope the next few seasons explain some of what has been and is going on
Hi macro, long time viewer here, since about overwatch launch. I've also been playing destiny 2 for about 5 years and i have a loose grasp on the lore (heavy spoilers)(obviously). Light and Dark Basically theres Light and the Traveller, light is a paracuasal (meaning physics defying) force wielded by guardians and lucent (savathuns witch queen) hive and light is basically synonymous with the traveller. however there is dark and the witness which are very different. until about a year or so ago, we knew of the darkness, a force opposing the traveller/light that caused the original apocalypse ( collapse) but we could wield it in the form of stasis. then at the end of witch queen we learn about the witness and our understanding changed completely. in the lightfall campaign it is confirmed that darkness is not the opposition to light, just a different force, one which is powered by emotions (stasis is pain, mainly the pain of Eramis, and strand is memory, the memory of everything in the universe and its fibres) and the witness is a being that wields the darkness as the oppisition to the traveller (we arent exactly sure why but the witness hates and wants to bring pain to the traveller). Hive Millions of years ago on a planet called Fundament there lived the Krill, which were a less evolved version of the Hive that we see today. the three princes/princesses of a specific clan/kingdom of hive were cast out after their king (father) died and travelled to the centre of the gas giant and found the worm gods, namely Xol, who gave each sister a worm that would grant them godhood in return for consuming the sisters from the inside if not fed by each sisters power. Oryx, the taken king, originally aurash needed to explore and discover to feed his worm. Savathun, the witch queen, originally sathona, needed to decieve and trick for hers and xivu arath (whose original name i forgot) needed to feed off of the death caused by war to sate her worm. it is shown that the witness tricked the hive into chosing the dark power and essentially unknowingly bind themselves to the witness, instead of the light. Basically Oryx developed the power to take, to essentially zombify anything in the universe. However, a consequence of the worms was that as the siblings power grew, so did their worms needs. this caused savathun to turn to the light in WQ and exorcise her worm. Oryx and Riven Oryx pretty much knew he was dying and after his son crota died, he parked up outside saturn and as i understand it pretty much waited for the gaurdians to try kill him, as his power had grown to great and his worm was to consume him. befoe he died however he was able to bargain with Riven of a thousand voices, a wish dragon or ahamkara. ahamkaras can alter reality as long as someone they hear says the word 'wish'. Oryx and Riven both tried to trick eachother and they found the irony of their situation funny and came to a sort of agreement and riven was taken but not consumed by her blight and still retained her will. after oryx died savathun visited her and sort of took charge of her as she had her will but was stil taken but riven saw savathuns plans telepathically and abandoned her until she made contact with uldren and made him kill cayde and open the way to the dreaming city, so that gaurdians could kill free her in the Last Wish raid. basically we thought that riven wanted us to make a wish (which she could then twist into her freedom) but she actually wanted us to kill her so we could "Wish for the safety of the Dreaming City" which Riven then used to force the city into a three week cycle of taken corruption. Fallen / Eliksni The fallen were the last race the traveller visited before humans. they are one of the two mainly 'causal' (oppisite of paracausal) factions of enemies we face. they live off ether which on their home planet of Riis was abundant but is now only made by servitors (which were modelled as idols of the traveller, which they worship as a god, the great machine). All fallen are supposed to be the size of captains, but their ether is raitioned so dregs have barely enough to live. they are seperated into houses, most of which are hostile to humans and guardians, except for mithrax's house light. Cabal Cabal are a militaristic society, similar to the roman empire. before calus took over it was a diplomatic society, but most were displeased with the weakness of their leaders and calus overthrew them to become emperor. He was kind of a bad guy tho, and his daughter, caiatl, and a bunch of advisors chucked him on the leviathan, a massive ship that was then sent out to the edge of the universe (the midnight coup), with a brief stop at nessus for four raids, The leviathan, The Spire of stars, The Eater of worlds and the Crown of Sorrow. as a side note the cabal and the psions are seperate species, the psions used to be slaves of cabal until calus freed him with his rebellion. the cabals homeworld, torobatl was destroyed by xivu arath after Umun'arath, one of caiatl friends and advisors who helped with the midnight coup, was corrupted by savathun who, upon umun'araths execution, opened a gigantic hive portal above the planet. this lead them to come to Sol to conquer humanity and live here. there is a lot more and i havent even touched on the vex so if anyone would like more, reply and i can try and add more.
Watching you play the campaign, nice edit by the way, makes it almost understandable to me. I didn´t really care 4 it on my playtrough, but i´m reevaluating...
I love destiny 2 but when i got my pc i gave up on it because i owned every dlc (this was a while into the witch queen) and i cant transfer them to my pc account and i dont want to buy them all again. Should i still play the game on pc without dlcs?
Ain't gonna lie to you Macro, this dlc was pretty mid, and I've played them all. it feels like they had an idea, then went for a rewrite and had to use all the created assets they had. it felt like everyone but us the Guardian, knew what the vale was. And the grapple cool down is way way to long. I was expecting a 15-30 second cool down, it's basically a minute. The content it brought with it isn't bad, but the story itself is on par with the likes of COO and maybe Warmind, and that's being generous.
@@matteodecastro8901 that only works for hunters, and you have to grapple a tangle that was already there so it doesnt really do anything like in the campaign
