Targeting Steep Edges for Fall Walleyes With Jigging Raps

  • Cooling fall water temps push walleye into binge feeding mode, making it an ideal time to catch them on artificial lures. Horizontal jigging baits like the Rapala Jigging Rap sink fast and dart erratically - they consistently outproduce even live bait with their ability to trigger reaction bites.
    McKeon "Keys" Roberts stresses the importance of locating fish with your electronics before wetting a line. Steep wind-blown drop-offs adjacent to main lake basins are excellent places to start your search. Keys details how to fish the Jigging Rap along steep structures, emphasizing the importance of keeping the bait moving and darting. This allows you to cover water relatively quickly and get the most aggressive fish in the school to fire.

    One of the few channels left that still actually 'teaches' you how to fish for different fish with different techniques! Thanks for all the info, unfortunately I don't have a real boat but I do have a kayak, lots of jigging raps, and I live right next to the Allegheny Reservoir! Might have to try getting the kayak out on the reservoir for walleye this fall!

      You can totally do it from a kayak! What kind of kayak do you have?? I have an Old Town Predator PDL and the best part about the pedal system is that you can hands-free back troll. I do that all the time for walleyes. I imagine you can catch some pretty nice drifts fishing that river too? Give it a try! I am a true believer in this bait. I'd try it anywhere. (that isn't a snag trap) Thanks for the kind words and for tuning in.

    Do you guys get up that early and compile these videos before dawn? Man that's dedication and I learned a ton from your channel. First time commenter, long time follower.

      Nice to meet Drone Meets Nature. Humbling, we’re appreciative to have anglers like you following. We pre-edit the video and schedule or manually publish in TH-cam. This was just filmed so timely depending on where you live in the country.

    You mentioned the window of 50-55 degree water temps when the walleye like to hang on these sharp break points.... what region are u located in when this usually happens ? And how would u fish these walleye say if u were in low 60’s or say high 40’s for water temp ? Thanks !

    That second last fish was nice, what do you figure it weighed?

    • @Wired2Fish
      @Wired2Fish  ปีที่แล้ว

      Around 7 pounds or so.

    Doesn't that hurt the fish pulling them from so deep, then releasing them?

    • @Wired2Fish
      @Wired2Fish  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I try not to horse them if I think I'm pulling them out of deep water. Especially with the jigging rap, I take my time because the bait is easy to spit. 10 feet of water is less than a casting distance away in this spot fishing them in 25ft as well. These fish didn't have any sign of Barotrauma which I tend to keep an eye out for. So I felt confident releasing them.

      @@Wired2Fish Ok cool. Thanks for the reply. Also, why release them? They looked like they needed a batter suit and a one way trip to hot oil town to me ;)

      This lake has a slot limit and so all fish over 17 Inches must immediately be released. Pretty common in our neck of the woods. However, I do have quite the freezer full to deal with already so I wasn't out for meat on this mission. Thanks for commenting and tuning in.
