In this video, we look at the basic elements of Kalpana Swaram singing in a simplified format. For notations and more, please visit : www.venkatayalur.in
A very methodical instruction. Youngsters should listen to this Guru, and follow, assimilate his titbits and develop their own way of singing - whether alaapana, kruti or kalpana svaras. Highly instructive
Usually kalpana swarams are not sung for pancharatna krithis. That is the tradition. Also note that the krithis have swara-sahityam for most part (charanams) - these supposedly a 'substitute' for kalpana swarams as per one point of view. However, there is no such explicit restriction (musically) that forbids singing kalpana swarams for these krithis as far as I can tell. There are many examples where someone tried something new and that was accepted gladly by the music lovers. For example - swarajathis are rarely sung in concerts, and that too with kapana swarams. It is understood that the great Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer brought the Kamakshi swarajathi of Syama Sastri (Bhairavi raga) to the concert platform and sung it with alapana, neraval and kalpana swarams. It was a wildly successful experiment for sure!
Thank you for your comments. Regular practice, focus and lot of listening of good renderings of various ragas will help in getting a good understanding and developing your own skills in this. All the very best! 🙏🏻
So beautiful Sir But g g P P like that you sang Sir if you kindly the the count of each syllable Sir it would be more helpful to the interested like me Sir Thank you very much Sir Namaste Sir
SIR. iam an aged lady who can't improve Kalpana Swaraj by practicing, so can you please teach persons like me online tuition, Kalpana Swaraj singing by giving us Swaras in writing
Thank you for your comments 🙏🏼. It is ok to write up some sequences when one is starting to learn kalpana swarams; but eventually we have to learn to do this impromptu - though it may take some time to reach that point. Except for korvais / korappu etc, wherein one has to calculate and lay out the sequence entirely, writing down all the kalpana swarams is not a good idea! I am planning to start some online sessions for learners soon - will share the details in the next few weeks. I plan to cover select krithis, varnams and topics such as alapana, kalpana swarams etc in such sessions. I do hope those will be beneficial to all learners...stay tuned!
I suppose you are referring to a bit of shadow that appears on the curtain. These videos are shot at home, and some such minor glitches do happen. Curtain moves up often on the screen which irritates and
distracts attention.
