    PB really enjoy the videos, well presented and edited and very educational for a general maintenance man as I am now. Before that I was a DI in the Met specialising in organises mobile phone crime. The similarity with phones and tool theft is most times when tools are discovered in the wrong hands you can’t identify the owner. Without and owner you cannot prove a theft of handling charge. One way of changing that is to record serial numbers, unique marks and photo your tools and log them on immobilise.com which is a free property register which is used by the police to identify stolen property and enable the thieves and handlers to be convicted. It’s not just for tools and caters for all types of property inc phones, cameras, TVs - anything with a serial number. It’s not widely known so it’s under used but it could get you your favourite tools back. Hope this helps and thanks again for the effort you take with the videos. Mark

    I'm all for your tool theft awareness campaign. I try and take what tools I need for the day and take them out of van and lock away at night. You couldn't be too carefull. You don't know who's watching you

    Nice one PB,
    Top tip use both hands when working you'll get loads more done 😉
    No Metabo this week? Also de-merit for incorrect use of a Wera VDE screwdriver.
    Seriously though Van/Tool theft you're preaching to the converted, it happened to me & was years till I slept through the night without checking the van, But harsher punishments won't work & the police will only treat it as theft. It's down to us to do everything we can to stop it happening, security, removing tools, not buying bargains on eBay etc.. & the Van manufacturers to upgrade the security standards on the vehicles. If all the trades stopped buying ACME vans because the side doors can be peeled then ACME vans would have to react. Wishful thinking? I can still remember when car stereos & TWOCing were the big vehicle crimes but the manufacturers have acted to almost irradicate stereo theft & TWOCing isn't as prevelant as it was in the 90's.
    I've signed the petition & contacted my M.P. every little helps.
    Nice one with the marble run & your nephew 👍

    Don't know why they put a bypass on y plan. No need. There's always a port open on a 3 port. Defo put one on s plan. Also, I never quote for small breakdown jobs like that pump. They either want it fixed, or they don't. If customer wants to get several people in to give free diagnosis and compete for the job - I won't be one of them. Great vid, PB, please keep them coming.

      What do you do? Replace the pump then just bill them for it? How does that work?

    I’ve got three tool totes and about 7-8 power tools boxes, I take them into my house now every night after my van got stolen. I know it takes a bit of extra time to do everyday but after losing thousands of pounds worth of tools and 2 weeks work it’s definitely worth the extra 10-15 minutes every morning/evening now.

    Hi PB
    Totally agree van theft is a problem.
    I've been a victim too.
    However, I don't believe harsher penalties will have any effect.
    Even prison had no positive effect on prevention of crimes, in fact all evidence points towards making things worse.
    I think our focus should be on the van manufacturers to fit good security, we know that van security is at an all time low.
    I for one would buy a new van from any company that offered multipoint locking to make our vans safe.
    It really would not be that difficult at the point of manufacture.

      Me too David. In Swords north county Dublin, Ireland. Very big problem at the moment. What measures have you taken to additionally secure your van?

    • @davewellsheatingengineer
      @davewellsheatingengineer 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Geoff Johnston hi, I'm quite lucky now, I have a secure unit, so vans get put away at night, staff have to bring vehicles back and lock up inside.
      I sleep well now!!

    • @county582
      @county582 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Geoff Johnston I’m in Galway & I’m reversing my van right against my house & side door tight to family car, I have a company van not that it matters but all tools are mine. I’ve been to a few auctions etc and I swear a lot of power tools are coming from uk & my guess is Irish tools are going the other way. I don’t have a couple of k lying around to replace tools if they got swiped

    My my tools got cleaned out, 8k plus tools taken in an instant. Police don't want to know. They didn't bother coming out to investigate. Just a crime reference number.
    Worst part of it was I didn't take out cover for my tools 😭. Bloody dirty scumbags.
    I've had slam locks installed on my new Transporter Kombi. It's not nice. Every job I go out to I get paranoid that some a-hole is trying to get at my gear. I've had to start my tool collection again. The police just said there's a great deal of this happening in the West Midlands.

  • @bambam-cm8we

    Tip for this scenario, when you have deliveries often times there is plastic "band straps" around cardboard boxes etc. Keep a piece of this in your tool bag about 50cm. You can use it in a sawing motion to cut the sealant between the parts. It's a little fiddly to get started, but once going it's easier.
    Disclaimer:- it's not always possible, and doesn't work on gripfill, the benefits are it rarely leaves any damage such as scratches. Hope this helps someone 👍

    Yes I’d like to sign it.....hard days work.....went to gym for little swim then sauna ease my old bones....came out most of my tools been nicked.and lock broken,,,,as you say nobody interested in finding out who they was. The Car boot on lever, St. full of drills and tools in Bolton ...the police don’t seem interested as I say....about time something was done about it.....they sell the tools to stall holders to support the drug use so why don’t they stop them....all they have to do is ask where have you bought it.....

    and putting the monetary cost of the tools asside (and that's not to say it's not insignificant) somethings you've had for years and can't replace, they don't make it anymore etc. Not everything is available on next day from screwfix.

    Just a thought I have tried to change tap Barrels on taps before and it’s like they have been welded on and they are almost impossible to get off to the point that you mark up the taps badly.
    Have you got a tip to remove them when they are stuck on.
