I love how there are no players speaking in character, no "role-play" as many modern players perceive it, but the story that shines through is still top notch. Thanks for sharing these!
This party is really having a rough time but it does make the video pretty suspenseful. I guess the benefit of party deaths is that each party member's shares increase in value lol.
Always happy to see another one of your OD&D solo sessions! I'm looking forward to watching the journey back to town and what dooms await the party in the wilderness.
A long time back now, possibly your first game philosophy vlog you pointed out there are no pointless deaths. Thos adventure drives home the danger of adventuring. And why those that make it back get renown.
I prefer games with more roleplay, but I have to say this has been a very interesting series to watch! It's a different kind of DnD. Not bad at all, just different an very entertaining :)
I'm so grateful for a game that is NOT roleplay heavy. Too many actual plays become about storytelling and doing voices, and I'm loving seeing the mechanics and the procedure of classic D&D as the star of the show!
How does the paralysis work? The ghouls have an aura instead of an on attack effect? Also protection from evil does nothing against that? Ghouls are scary.
"I always root for the party . . . especially when I am the party!" 😂 I fully understand the expected lethality of OSR play, but this system seems almost too . . . systematic and deadly for group play where every player has only one of the party members as their own. Great for solo though. I suppose it's the solo play aspect that is making things so quick and systematic; and that group play would bring that dynamic forward. You'd really need a fairly large party though or you're going to have a bunch of folks sitting around doing nothing pretty fast.
I’ve been running this with my home group weekly for almost 2 years. We have had a total of 5 PC deaths. Partially because players play differently than I am solo and partially because in this series they are hitting dungeons way above their level - this type of dungeon is more like a 3rd level (on the first level)
@@BanditsKeepActualPlay Thank you sir! I did eventually see where you had explained this in another video - that's what I get for watching things out of order... =) Really appreciate your work here.
It is not clearly stated - some people give MU all the spells of a level once they can cast them (in a spell book). I like to roll randomly for 3d6 starting spells and all the rest they must find or research.
I was always willing to let many things slide in RPG's except coins and treasure amounts. It was something I did in 70's when I first started playing D&D and AD&D. I just had to change the amount of coinage in treasures and the price lists based on 10 gp is the equivalent of an average person's yearly salary. The 6000 sp the group find in the video is a good example. Such a huge amount of coins would weigh approximately 188 lb, the average weight of a human. Even if the coin size and weight was halved it comes to 94 lb. Coins and huge treasures was my only nerdy bugbear.

Thanks! Yes, I don’t feel like talking in character would add much here
“F just died… the next person would be D… oh D’s also dead.” Just fantastic, great fun and really conveys a spirit of excitement, dread and adventure
Ha ha, thanks! It’s funny how excited you can get even with such a simple setup

This is true!

Thank You! Let’s hope they have better luck!
That Elf needs a raise, or at least a free round at the tavern. That was intense.
Indeed!
Man what a deadly dungeon! Excellent episode. I hate when you roll and come up with jack squat for treasure 😅
Yup 😂
This adventure turned out to be more lethal than I imagined...and than Daniel imagined too.
Great video! thx
These early sessions are pretty brutal
This is such a fantastic series. Thanks for the effort, and please keep it up!
Thank You!

Thank You! Not sure how I’d role-play more by myself, but could be interesting to try.

@@BrentARJ Same , I like roleplaying but when it's not the focus... Nowadays I prefer to use "downtimes" for roleplaying moments.
Good luck to the heroes.

Ghouls are scary.
Yes, it’s an aura. Protection from evil will prevent the ghoul from touching you, but not the paralysis

@@BanditsKeepActualPlay Thanks for the reply! Looks like a lot of fun. I'm dripping with envy.
Suppose that's the reason the original rulebook specified "four to fifty players," lol.
What are the printed reference/tracking sheets you're using for the game?
They are posted in the public part of my patreon - link in description - basically a variation of the ones for AD&D

How are spells known determined in the LBBs?

That’s part of the challenge, getting it home!
5 ghouls can bash a door open at the same time?
Heck yeah! Ghouls don’t care about personal space
