Are you a member of a gun club that acquires land for you to work your dogs and shoot or are you paying the land owner directly to go with friends. Or maybe you just know people who like you enough to walk their land?
Too much whistling and micromanagement. I run a Britt and never have to do that much correction. Different breeds and different countries and training. Now if I could get Gunner to pick up the birds and hold them in his mouth. But he is only 9 months and in his first season. I am not a pro trainer. He will hold point for 2 to 5 seconds, and then the scent is just too strong or the bird moves. He is fine for this point in his life. Two outings, eight birds, and he pointed all and brought back 3 out of 8. For an Idiot trainer like me, I think that was pretty good for his age. One whistle,........STOP! Two whistles.......look at me. Three whistles or more........Come here. Fetch.....Go get the bird. Out......Drop it or let me have it. Hup........Sit and mark birds. Whoa......stop and look at me. Go.....get out there and hunt! Not really the commands you would use for a field trial, but right now......he is not a field trials dog. He is still learning. Along with me. He had FT winners in his dam and sire, and his grandfather was a FTC. All I want is a companion to be out with me and find the birds that I might scratch-down. Next year we go to Georgia for Bobwhite Quail, and the upper peninsula of Michigan for Grouse and maybe Kansas for Pheasants. I'm an old fart of 63 years and trying-out 16 Ga. SxS for hunting. Gunner will probably be laughing at me for all the birds that I miss because of the gauge and gun changes. Normally shoot Pump and O/U 12 bore shotguns. Wanted something lighter and did not want to go to 28 Ga. , or what I call "Expert" shotgun bores. So much fun. Money, time, and no relatives or ties to keep me from hunting. Maybe I will book a hunt over with your country. Or Norway. Saw a very good hunt on ptarmigan in Norway. Or will go to Alaska and brave the bitter winds and snows of that climate. Just want some good wingshooting that I don't have to spend an arm and a leg to get.
Do cockers also quarter ? never seen that before
