Somehow this was my first Grand Seiko review despite being on the bandwagon for some time. What are your thoughts on the brand? Despite there being some room for improvement in the bracelets and continuing to increase their offering as they expand into other markets, overall I love what Grand Seiko is delivering for the price and hope we don't see the price jumps some are suspecting. Give the video a thumbs up if you enjoyed the video and would like to see more GS in the future. Thanks for watching!
I'm just scared that by the time I get to being able to buy a GS at TODAY'S prices, they'd have doubled in price because people realise how underpriced they are relative to the other big hitters in this price range.
This is my holy grail watch. I went to Japan recently and saw the beautiful fall colors, and this watch would be the best constant reminder of that vacation.
Recently I was looking to get a watch to commemorate and celebrate my own achievement and I was torn between a Rolex and an Grand Seiko. I ended up choosing a grand Seiko because it’s such a hidden gem and matches my personality so much. I didn’t expect myself to love it some much, but my mind was set the moment I lay eyes on it. There’s space for a Rolex in every watch collectors arsenal, Grand Seiko also definitely deserves your consideration. Their finishing and workmanship is absolutely stunning. They doesn’t have the name recognition of a Rolex in popular culture, but dare I say they deserve your absolutely attention. Seriously, buy a Rolex to impress others and buy a grand Seiko to impress yourself.
100% Agree. I wanted a Rolex...bought a couple GS 36000 Hi-beat and absolutely love them. I "impress myself" every time I put it on. I may still get a Rolex 1 day if they can be bought new at MSRP; Otherwise, I have never been one to chase a fad and wont start with Rolex. I will add more GS to my collection as time rolls on. The SBGH271 Rikka is my favorite and was bought right after watching this review.
I travel to Japan many times every year (pre pandemic). It may be the most beautiful place in autumn due to the blazing red maple leaves that appear all too briefly. This watch has captured a bit of that magic. I must find a GS next time I'm in Japan.
Teddy ever since Kevin said that the guts of a Grand Seiko were that of a Patek, my level of respect for these watchs and getting one, went waaaaay high! Keep bringing it Teddy, much respect!
Im swiss, but i just got an sbgj241. Same dial in green/teal with a gmt function. What a sight to behold! The play of light, details and meticulous finish can put many big brand swiss watches to shame! Please do more grand seiko reviews. When it comes to dials and finishing you cant find better, no matter the price.
The morning I bought the GS GMT the way the sunlight was glinting off the hands and indices looked like a fireworks display going on inside the case.....the finish has no equal, what a great piece.....this is the first in my collection.....cheers
Grand Seiko is one of the few brands that gets me really excited. The attention to detail is absolutely stunning. Loved your macro shots...great review!
This is total awesomeness....love this dial. Coworker has this and the GS cherry blossom dial piece. They're both beautiful and have to be seen in person to totally appreciate all of the hidden details.
I just bought mine today before seeing this amazing video review. I’m travelling in Europe and came across this beauty in Budapest . No 618 of 900. The staff was absolutely amazing to deal with and would recommend anyone to shop there. These are truly under rated and under valued for the quality! Super happy to own this
Great video Teddy! Really liking the direction you're taking with channel, guests and overall presentation. Thanks for creating wonderful content for us watch geeks!
I respect Grand Seiko, I have bought several pedestrian Seikos. I’ve never been blown away with the looks of a GS until this FREAKIN GORGEOUS thing - HOT DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Incredible design, craftsmanship, and functionality. All wrapped in a timepiece that pays homage to the Japanese autumn season. Thanks Teddy for another awesome review! :)
Has to be in a top 5 list for 2019, crying same it is a 900 run, would add this to my collection without hesitation, great video keep up the great work!
You helped me to buy my first 2 Grand Seiko's with your review's. I thought I needed to be a Rolex owner but this is making me so much happier than waiting 1-2yrs to get a Rolex for a watch I like but dont love. Thank you. I am such an ecstatic owner.
I recently bought the SBGH269 and I couldn't be happier. I have bought many watches in the last few years and after some of the novelty wears off, you learn what really works for you, in size and presentation. The SBGH269 and my Golden Snowflake are two of my favorites. Perfect size at 39.5 mm, very legible, spectacular dials and a reasonably price.
Hi Teddy, thanks for doing this segment on the SBGH269. Watching this video & the video with Mr. Wonderful & his comments about Grand Seiko(part2) is what turned me on to GS and motivated me to buy this watch. The more I looked at it in different lighting situations, the more and more I love the dial. Its just absolutely stunning to me and the details I saw using my loupe is just amazing. I bought one of the few remaining pieces available world wide.
Great review! I got my Snowflake couple weeks ago in Tokyo, and have been wearing it almost daily ever since. It is one of the most comfortable watch in my collection. I was torn between this red dial and the snowflake but ultimately went with the spring drive. Both is absolutely gorgeous in person. Please do review more of their stuff, maybe even some vintage ones if you can get your hands on some.
Thanks for the incredible work Teddy. This particular model was my first foray into Grand Seiko and I have to say I love it. It fits very well on my 6.75 inch wrist, slides under cuffs, and dresses down well with a strap change. The quality of the finish up close it just incredible. Like most GS fans, I will admit that the clasp is serviceable but not great. For this amount of money micro adjustments should be possible. I wear mine on a strap 90% of the time so not a major issue. Check out the 267 if you are looking for one to move you emotionally. Maybe that one will be the ticket!
Teddy, first of all thank you for you great work and contribution to the watch community. Secondly, this review had a profound impact on me and I promptly found one BNIB on the grey market. It is, as you described, an amazing watch. It is totally unique, yet has all the features that make GS a brand I have wanted for years. This is THE watch I was looking for. I have shared it with many watch enthusiasts, and they all appreciate its totally unrivalled dial. Like my favorite band, the Grateful Dead, Grand Seiko "are not the best at what they do, they are ONLY ONES who do what they do." Hats off to you, Teddy, and thank you for convincing me to make this purchase.
I love Seiko as I have worn a Seiko 5 for the last 45 years. My first one was a model that joined the 5 line sometime after I bought it. I’ve seen them with the same model number but with a 5 logo on the dial. I later bought a second Seiko 5 about 25 years ago and both are running and keeping good time today. I did have to have the first model cleaned about 2 years ago, but the later one has run 25 years without servicing at all! A GS is on my grail list, although the price tag is out of my reach currently. Keep reviewing them if you would! They are better finished than a Rolex, and considerably cheaper. Great review !!!
So glad you reviewed this piece! I just got into being a watch enthusiast. Loved your talks with Kevin O'Leary and I'll your videos on learning about watches. I currently have 2 bulova watches 63A123 and 98A214, both automatic skeleton watches. I was more about the art of the movements for looks but when I first saw this GS SBGH269 I was blown away! This is what I want as my real entry watch! I was just so happy when I got the notification about this video watch review! Thanks so much for this! Yes more GS reviews and maybe some skeletons too;)

Idk much about watches but when a non swiss brand sells their product at this price and has the confidence to do it you know it's going to be something special
dont forget to add and then when the watch experts argue that at that high price point it is actually an extremely good deal and should cost 5x the amount
Have had mine for a few months and I love it. Currently have 7 GS’ and definitely looking to add more especially after seeing the 60th anniversary quartz models launched tonight.
Beautiful watch! The problem is you'll want to get all seasons. Love the attention to detail like the polished and capped seconds hand. An under-appreciated brand for sure.
I love your content and read comments on your videos, they're about almost everything but I want to mention how your videos have such a satisfying font face.
The finish quality of this watch is stunning. Outstanding dial that pushes horological prowess of Seiko. They make a watch for everyone and can't wait for Teddy to review a Seiko Credor.
I bought my first GS a few months ago and this along with SBGM235 (white dial blue gmt hand hibeat) and SBGA413 made the final 3. I went with the 413, that sakura white/pink dial stole my heart lol, and I also wanted a spring drive, but this is an awesome watch as well. I'd love to see a few seiko/grand seiko reviews sprinkled in here and there.
I have recently subscribed to your channel and i must say you are doing a very good with your eloquent descriptions and excellent knowledge about a wide variety of watches. Hope you have more episodes with Mr. wonderful!
@@candide1772 Id def keep an eye on on Chrono24 , I believe you can set it up to send you a message if a new watch goes on the market. there seems to be some good prices on there, particularly out of Japan. 😍🤤 absolutely georgeous. Classic GS. Where Seiko screws up (bezel alignment, hand alignment, ...), GS just hits every tick on the list. Will never be able to afford this red beauty.
I already have my mind set on an Omega watch for my first expensive/luxury watch but a Grand Seiko is going to be my second for sure. This one is a beauty... Awesome review as always Teddy!
I have this one and knew it was the one for me because I frequently wear a ring with a red garnet, so together they create a crimson 1-2 punch! The watch guys I show it to always have the same expression: mouth gapes open, eyes bulge out, "WOW!" And while women never ask me about the watch I'm wearing, this is the only one where I would swear it caught their attention...
Thanks for the review! For me the GS is one of the watches at the top of my want list. It’s such a beautiful piece and the GS in general is very under appreciated IMHO. This particular one reminds me of a very subdued “Godzilla” with the beautiful warm reddish dial and simple monochromatic stainless bracelet. Awesome!
Although Teddy’s videos are very high quality and I have watched nearly every one of them. . You need to see these grand seikos in person. They are amazing. I till this day can and do stare at my limited edition. The quality of the whole watch is amazing. I’m going to collect as many as I can before people catch on.
Teddy bro I started learning abt watches after watching your channel......ordered orient bambino........it is cool watch........ Hope your channel grows
I wish that Grand Seiko made use of their other historical cases. The 44GS is a great sporty case but the 62GS is a better dress piece than the Elegance collection. Another gripe would be the minute markers that are a lot longer than the original run, taking away from the indices imo. Great review, Teddy.
I don't even like the color red, but the red dial is still one of the most beautiful dials I've ever seen. Anyone who owns one of these watches would be crazy to sell it.
I love grand seiko I've got the sbgn005. I think in the next couple of years they will be way closer to the Rolexs of the world. Right now I still think non watch people just see "seiko" Once non watch people know the difference between seiko and grand seiko. Then they finally done it. Ok maybe it'll be more like 5-10 years before that happens. Great video teddy! Yes more GS reviews please :)
I have a couple other purchases on my list first, but I certainly want to add one. I am still waiting for one to completely resonate with me. I think we will see more cool releases with them expanding to additional markets.
@Tom The Fish And that is your personal opinion, which is absolutely fine. Many people, including me think in exactly opposite terms. I am not a pathetic snob so I don't sneer at quartz movement. If I had extra money lying around then I would have bought cal0100. Besides, believe me there is no correlation between quality movement and waitlists.
Calling a spring drive as a mere quartz movement is nothing but ignorance. The only thing quartz about it is the regulating oscillator, everything else is mechanical. BTW, GS has many other hi beat automatic movements.
I've never seen a dial like this. That's not the first time I've said that about a GS, which speaks so much about the brand to me. If I could pull the trigger on this $7k+ watch, it'd never leave the collection. The whole collection of fall/winter/spring/summer must be the best watch collection to have all year round, with any outfit.
I am going to get this. I have been looking at watches for 2 years and this is going to be my first luxury purchase. This outshines Rolex in so many ways
Seiko is my favourite brand and I finally ‘graduated’ to GS last year. I’d say don’t wait as they’re just getting pricier. Buy pre-owned if possible unless you’re after the truly rare special/limited ones.
Adlan Haziq Hi, for me, and my love of Seiko it had to the double signed originals although in time I’ll have no choice but to go with the newer ones. I’m @fsohail on Instagram for some pics-I’ll leave the video work to the pros like our Teddy here.
I purchased a Grand Seiko, cream face dial, three hand with date complication. It is a beautiful dress watch that complements everyday dress whether it be formal or informal. The cream face gives it that two o'clock daylight feel. The metalwork finish is superb and the reflection from the hour markers is a sight to behold. The crock red strap is a little thin but beautifully finished. Grand Seiko watches grow in your affection; at least it did with me and I found I was wearing my Breitling Navitimer less and less. I'd love to get myself a spring drive possibly with the Snowflake Dial with a hint of blue. When it comes to providence, workmanship, style, interest, reliability and value for money, "You Can't Beat Grand Seiko." They're Class.
What a stunner and fabulous presentation. GS’s new “White Birch” might just be the technically best, most beautiful and most bang-for-your-buck watch in the world right now too.
I have the SBGH269 and a Snowflake. My two favorite watches. Perfect size. Accuracy is incredible. I get more questions on these than any other watch I own. Very happy.
I bought a hi beat gmt Mount iwate 6 months ago and love it. It’s for the genuine watch fan who knows what a good watch is, build quality is phenomenal, comes with a 5 year warranty.
Great review and photography Teddy. I almost bought one of these at the UK's Brighton Watch show but thought the dial, although exquisite, was too much for an old guy like me to pull off. Instead I got an SBGA373 Spring Drive with the champagne dial and similar case and bracelet to the SBGH269. It is my first GS and after a couple of months I still haven't made up my mind if it's a keeper. The quality and finishing of the piece is incredible but it has almost a sterile look - tremendous engineering but (for me, so far) no real soul. It is almost like wearing a surgical instrument! Time will tell...
I feel that for many Grand Seiko is the watch-lovers watch. Where some high end brands rely on reputation and cache the GS is all about engineering and finishing, which rivals pieces at many times the price point. I own a high beat King Seiko 4602 from 1971 and I agree these watches really observe Taro Tanaka's "Grammar of Design" that became key to Seiko's evolution from the 1960s forwards.
If I were you I would choose rather than the GS Quartz version because 1) their amazing accuracy 2) they are a new technology 3) sorry I am not happy with +8:00/day being a 36,000 BPH how often would it need servicing at what cost?
Oh man, that dial is "woo hoo!" I love the detail in angles, reflections and especially how so many applied pieces look like they are floating. The date dial has it's own brushing! I do have a piece of criticism, but I realize this is a matter of taste; I find the "automatic" and "hi-beat 36000" too much. It feels a little tacky.. At least a slightly better font. Thanks for all the nice detailed close-ups. Not everyday I get to see one of these!
The dial on this watch is just stunning. The zaratzu polishing is like nothing that I have ever seen on any other watch. I was fortunate to see a GS in person and pictures do not do it justice. Would I add one to my collection? Absolutely.
Have become a huge fan. Was lucky enough to pay for and order my mate's new Snowflake recently. He's been wanting one for ages and I walked into our local AD to see what was in stock. They happened to be having a sale. My friend was overseas on holidays and knew he was looking while on hols. So when I told him the price he said to buy. It was great to spend some time with one. I also picked up an Oris Pointer Date the same day. Suffice to say it was a good day.
I know one place that sells new GS's. It's about a 45min. schlep from my house. To sell well, I think they'll have to get into more cases. If people see 'em...they'll buy 'em. The example that you've shown tonight is right in line with what I think people(mostly men) are after. And about this particular model...I think that it's stunning! The other "seasons" of course are great but this one's special. Some watchmakers offer dials in a teak-deck format, but nothing even approaching this. I'm smitten!
Somehow this was my first Grand Seiko review despite being on the bandwagon for some time. What are your thoughts on the brand? as a owner of two GS . I'd say get one u won't be disappointed
Some fantastic photography Teddy, thanks for the video
Thanks for watching Mikey!
Great watch and great review. Been watching your videos the last few months and your quality is improving!
I don't even like the color red, but the red dial is still one of the most beautiful dials I've ever seen. Anyone who owns one of these watches would be crazy to sell it.
Love how GS went with a black date disc. Stunning watch.
I own this watch. I bought it in November. 3 months later I am still in awe of it.
These GS dials is someway having a little piece of art in your wrist, ain’t it? 👌🏻 Wonderful
When will you be picking up your own GS?
Honestly, is a swiss brand created spring drive or the like they would be looked upon as horology gods
I have a couple other purchases on my list first, but I certainly want to add one. I am still waiting for one to completely resonate with me. I think we will see more cool releases with them expanding to additional markets.
@Tom The Fish how is it not all that great? Lmao
@Tom The Fish Quite an idiotic statement. Those two things have no relation.
Gorgeous. Really planning on getting one someday. That sweeping minute is mesmerizing.
Teddy. Beautiful. Love your videos, eloquently articulated commentary and your website.
Only been into watches for about a month... this is the most beautiful watch I’ve ever seen.
Seiko is my favourite brand and I finally ‘graduated’ to GS last year. I’d say don’t wait as they’re just getting pricier. Buy pre-owned if possible unless you’re after the truly rare special/limited ones.
Did you buy the original run or the modern ones, bhai? Would love to see a video review if you have the time
Adlan Haziq Hi, for me, and my love of Seiko it had to the double signed originals although in time I’ll have no choice but to go with the newer ones.
Waited a long time for you to post a Grand Seiko review! I ended up buying my first luxury timepiece being the SBGA413 and it's gorgeous.
Nearly all the GS models are divine. I adore my Snowflake. This SDBGH269 is definitely a contender!
I usually don’t care for red dials but this dial is beautiful 😻
How in the world a watch with a red dial looks so good.
Beautiful watch! I might regret passing on this beauty not once but twice.
What a stunner and fabulous presentation.
GS’s new “White Birch” might just be the technically best, most beautiful and most bang-for-your-buck watch in the world right now too.
New intro style is clean 👌🏼
This is the most beautiful dial I have ever seen period!
If only every watch review was this good! Covers it all perfectly!
The opening is perfect, with one amendment: a Grand Seiko would impress yourself + other watch nerds.
This video was much more articulate than others!
Keep it up.
If I were you I would choose rather than the GS Quartz version because 1) their amazing accuracy 2) they are a new technology 3) sorry I am not happy with +8:00/day being a 36,000 BPH how often would it need servicing at what cost?
This watch has Dauphine style hands. Sword hands are something else.
love Dauphine hands.
Absolutely agree!
The dial on this watch is just stunning. The zaratzu polishing is like nothing that I have ever seen on any other watch. I was fortunate to see a GS in person and pictures do not do it justice. Would I add one to my collection? Absolutely.
I'm waiting for my SBGX261 to arrive. Can't wait for this Amazing quartz
Very nice! Great job Teddy!
Thanks for watching buddy!
It's just amazing the red color and details is second to none.... Seiko just always have the best value for money watches at any budget...
Really like your unbiased view on Grand Seiko keep up the good work Teddy!
What a gorgeous watch. I had no idea this was the first Grand Seiko you’ve ever reviewed. Would like an affordable version LOL.
Love Grand Seiko watches. I am looking to add a GS Spring drive piece to my collection. Looking forward to more reviews of GS on your channel.
