Now thats some good stuff Dave when I was young I use to cook bannock in little ole light weight fry pan I carried with me .. that with some denti moore stew made a good meal ..!
Hello Dave ! Good looking bannock . I just turned out a pone of cornbread , mixed up another batch of batter , put her in the oven , then ate a bit of the first . One pone is gonna become sage dressing for the turkey, the other is gonna be ate as she is . Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours , thanks for what y'all are doing !
i got to try some of that loaf... needed salt but the greasy leather gloves added some flavor! lol dave you are a "one take wonder" now i need a packgrill!
We love the bannok up here Dave. Good 💡 idea there! AND. A big shout out to all of you guys. Happy Thanksgiving and have a great season! From Canada 🇨🇦
Daja vu bud great vid I just did that the other night using that grate you get with the stove ring for your bottle cup system that grate works great for biscuits in the little cup pot. Just think you done thought of it before you used it. Your the man keep it up
Had an emergency survival situation during that storm that came up our way in the Catskills. I went in around midday for chow and didn't have access to the kitchen with a pie from the local Italian pizzeria. Then I remembered my cold handled pan & enamel (metal) plate and within 5 minutes, I started a fire in the woods (close to base), got a bed of embers, used two small logs as a base with the coals in between, placed my slices in the pan and covered it with the plate. I then closed up the surrounding areas around the logs to really concentrate the heat and it all worked out great. Belly was full and warm and back out I went for the afternoon sit. With those wind gusts, nothing moved that day, but I was out there at 5 in the morning and didn't come back until 4 in th afternoon besides breaking for that lunch (because I wasn't going to cook out in the field and that "lunch" was actually my breakfast).
there's one guy in the UK I watch, he uses a big pot turned sideways for a camp oven but he uses foil for a lid since he doesn't have a lid for this particular pot
This isn't a bannock baking question, but a hammock sleeping in the wind and cold. What was the combination of sleep gear, under pads, hammock underquilts (wool blanket? Something made of down?) you used? I slept in a hammock several years ago in March at a park right off the Pacific Ocean in Washington State. It was windy and cold and I battled - unsuccessfully - convection all night long. If you were warm in similar conditions it would be great to know your combined tactics.
Many of us were using under quilts, pads and MSS sleeping bags. Some had very little. It was a range throughout. I found my underquilt, black mss sleeping bag and tarp/hammock weld up well together in high winds and the drop down to 30 degrees F. I was at least warm enough to shoot this video and watch Dave eat all the bannock lol.
dave, what are your thoughts on using a caribiner to hold open a #110 conibear and using it as a type of stand for a bush pot. I have experimented with it and it seems to work well
Cooking Bannocks and no mention of their Celtic origin?! C'mon! All will be forgiven if you come to Scotland and hike the West Highland Way, pathfinder style. Would make a great series of videos. If you need a hiking buddy, gimme shout.
Maybe that is why he was wearing those gloves, so he could break the bread with them and ask if anyone wanted to try it ? Then he got all the bannock for him self ?
wildernessoutfitters I try to cook on coals no hotter than a conventional oven if possible. It's difficult to gauge the heat at times but I'm getting pretty good at it. I'm not too concerned about the outside of the pot, but the inside will scorch if the temperature is too high. I generally like low maintenance ways to cook bannock.

Semper Fi
Amazon did away with their aStore in October without really notifying affiliates so, many YTbers will be seeing the problem soon, I'm sure
Happy Thanksgiving!
I didn't see the grill on your website Dave. Are they available yet?

what you need to do now is a video on the sleeping arrangements that dave talked about briefly in the video.
Tactical stuff right there. Just wanna see someone chomp in it and hear how good it is
Maybe that is why he was wearing those gloves, so he could break the bread with them and ask if anyone wanted to try it ? Then he got all the bannock for him self ?
Was that Jamie razing the boss about his gloves ?
Where can we buy the grill?
Self Reliance Outfitters on Monday
can you share your recipe for bannock?
Awesome!
What size bush pot is that cooking in?
Our Small Bushpot
The new one the 64oz Bottle nests into?
No it's there normal size bush pot
New paint can would be good too .
Time to butter it!
What legs?
Butterfly Handles on Pot
2 grill racks and you could flip it but that is one more thing to pack.
My man said crappie. My nizzel
In Australia we just chuck it in the hot ash.
Camp cooking is easy when your a baker at publix. Got this down to a science.
Dave, Are your cooking/eating pots/utensils made from food grade stainless or is it the luck of the draw whatever China sends over?
Yes all or SS Cookware is FOOD GRADE
Not my preferred method to make bannock. This scorches the pot for nothing.
Scorches the Pot? LOL my pot aint never been clean on the outside since the day it was new-
