  • This solo camp cooking trip takes me into the Australian bush of the Vic High Country.
For my solo camp cooking trip, i have cooked all of my meals over the coals of the campfire.
I setup camp beside a beautiful Vic High Country mountain stream.
I enjoy Solo camping it's a great experience, its just you, the birds and your environment as your entertainment.
Being out in the Australian bush on your own and cooking the meals that you take to be cooked on the campfire is a great way of getting back to basics and a very simple life.
Solo camping needs to be experienced to really understand whats it's like.
After you have been on one enjoyable solo camp cooking trip, you might find yourself wanting more of this simple way of life.

So blacksmithing is a craft that needs perpetuating. Not anyone can do it...because it takes time and apptitude to learn. Even good welding takes skill not just a stick welder.

Tim mate all this brings back so much memory from 60 years ago when I first started work at age 14 for 6 guineas a month as a billy boy and general camp raus-a-about for fencing contractors under the tutorage of old bill. This was ex-army tent camping in the range country that produced the best narrow leafed Iron Bark fence posts and the best cooking fires. Old Bill was a grumpy old bugger and if he saw me doing what you did making the tea Tim I'd get a No9 where the sun doesn't shine. First thing immediately the billy was rolling boiled I'd have to chuck in the tea leaves, if I waited, then I'd get the boot, then take it off the fire while it was still rolling boiled and swing it 3 times clockwise. Heaven forbid if he caught me swinging it anti clock wise like you did Tim or 4 times even which he reckoned made the tea too strong. He wouldn't let me use the cast iron camp ovens until I learnt how to cook dampers in the ashes. Only then did I graduate to cast camp ovens the same as yours. No strawberry fly bog (as jam was known) in those days, it was cockie's joy - Golden Syrup. If ants ever got into the tin of Golden Syrup, all hell would break loose. Every 2nd day the boss cockie would drop off a leg of lamb that old Bill would turn into a really tasty stew. Of course it was my job to peel the vegies and cut up the meat after receiving old Bill's "education". Funny thing was even though old Bill saw considerable action during WWII first in North Africa then Kokoda where he coped a Japanese bullet through his left ear lob. He always reckoned the Japs couldn't shoot straight as the bastard who shot him joined his ancestors. However old bill never learnt to tell the time. He told the time around the camp by the calls of the birds. He reckoned the birds always knew when it was tucker time and changed their calls to suit. Days never to return, but god was life simple. I know I miss it!! Thanks for doing this video Tim much appreciated mate.👍👍👍💯

Here in QLD because of travel restrictions everyone is hitting up some camping, the only issue is the uninformed and inexperienced people hitting the tracks and beaches there has been a lot of vehicles getting swamped and rolled, or the simple fact that Tyre pressure is key in sand

I’m with ya. Solo camping is the best very empowering being in the bush alone at night. Even go for a walk naked in the dark with nothing but a head torch. Turn the torch off, and stand in the pitch black alone. Take a deep breath of air and slowly let any fears in your mind come to rest. When you no longer feel vulnerable and at ease, that’s when one feels confident and at one with Aussie bush.

I love being remote and doing the camp out thing with the bare necessities. Just got back into deer hunting again after a 30 year layoff. Your video takes me back to the mid 70's hunting with my father. Our hunting camp was literally where the road ended. 25 miles from paved roads and in a section prohibited to non 4 wheel drive vehicles. Motor bikes were ok but the 3 wheelers and quads didn't exist in those days so it was horses or 4 wheel drive. Believe it or not it was in northern California at a place called Paynes creek. Love your video sir. Your having way to much fun in the bush. Blessings to you

The sounds of the birds and the stream is wonderful, so glad to have that as your backyard. I think Aussie's have adopted Spag Bol as one of our National dishes, great for what you're doing! I am pretty much a coffee guy, but your tea looked pretty good for a frosty morn. Oh Jeez - I can almost smell that bacon and eggs mate - fantastic, just missing the tom sauce. Not double here all the best John.
