+Nano Pixel Really? That's a reason I haven't seen yet. The main reason I've seen for it is that the DVD sales for the anime were extremely poor, only selling around 900 copies.

I never really expected to love a comedy slice of life anime, even more with the childish art. But, oh, Nichijou. This anime was truly a masterpiece, and I regretted that it took me a long time to finally try.
Also, this opening song, I've never skipped even once (even the second one). They're really well made and entertaining, with catchy music and visuals.

As a participation gift, the girl is real, she's model for the MV, not Hyadain crossdressing.
My favorite shot from this opening is the one when the main trio are singing while the camera pans around them in a circular motion! Not only does it always make me smile because of its energy and how randomly it's shown, it also shows a high talent in animation, as I doubt those kinds of movements are easy to draw (as in circular camera pan plus three characters singing and fully animating at the same time... this opening was hand-drawn people!)
the entire anime is animated that way. i agree it's some of the best animation i've ever seen, especially for a comedy anime.

I love how the ED calms you down after watching Nichijou. Or was I the only one who felt like it did that?
The first ED gets you ready for bed and makes you feel loved (nichijou def feels like a show for kids to watch after school shortly before bed).
The second ED makes you happy humans exist and makes you appreciate life.
Fitting since the first half of the show is mosrly just random skits and the second half of the show is a continuous story.
I loved Nichijou, it gets weird sometimes, but not the kind of weird that makes you think "am I missing something?" like Evangelion does all the time. It's just funny, weird and hella cute.
Yeah, it's the kind of weird that makes you think "I missed everything but I'm still laughing my ass off", that's how fun it is
A nice additional bonus to the soft cut to Nano, Sakamoto and Hakase is that their segments are all a lot more 'soft' in general - revolving around domestic life and carefree pranks, which is a soft shell around the bizzare characters it contains (in contrast to school life, where everything is hectic and wild, but with very(comparatively) normal characters).
Though...if I'm going to name a favorite Comedy series...it's gotta be Shirokuma Cafe, which isn't 'pure' comedy exactly, but is a delightful character-driven slice-of-life where 90% of the cast is realistically-drawn talking animals, and nobody bats an eye about it (except one guy, halfway through the series).
3:10 The connection comes from spelling. The Daiku company logo is the character 大. Nakamura's name for Sakamoto was Taisho (大正), which also starts with 大.

Daily Lives of High School Boys is probably my favorite comedy show. Every episode has me laughing out loud. The OP's not nearly as strong as Nichijou's, but the ED is pretty good.
The op feels more like a traditional romance comedy/adventure type show

Fried Tofu I always thought that, as does everyone, but I always have the lingering theory that this was supposed to be a serious adventure show, but then they just changed their mind and left the op as is just because XD. Probably not the case but it's fun thinking it like that
Is Daily Life of High School boys better than Nichijou? I saw some unbelievable comments on a video that said Nichijou is hella boring while they recommend Daily Life of Highschool Boys.

The over the top animation. Their humour are kinda similar but Nichijou went balls to the wall over the top with animation.
One other thing about this op is that the "seemingly random clips" you mention at 4:37 are all scenes from the manga that weren't adapted. Great vid as always Geoff!
2:00 Sasahara was the subject of Mio's ink drawings in one of the earlier episodes, which is an additional connection to why Sasahara is the content of the ink bottle transition. Although I can only make this connection now that you explain all these gorgeous connections I never caught before. (Favorited!) Also, the skits that involve Mio having drawn her crush Sasahara in a sexy manner was the implications of Mio having a crush on him before the ending, in contrast to what you said at 5:20.
The best Anime OP of all time. The song, quality of animation, crispness of it's graphic, and it encapsulate the series extremely well with possible opening for each viewer's "lore crafting"

I can't even bring myself to finish the series because I'm afraid that I'll get too attached to the anime and not be able to accept the fact that there won't be a season 2
Qwem Lhjsi I've watched almost 10 episodes and I'm already too attached.
bluebu only took me 3 episodes.
Took me two lol
3 years late.. but yeah, I got too attached to the anime. I already knew that the sales didn't go well so season 2 is very unlikely. Then the KyoAni arson happened and basically acts as the nail to the coffin.
I also realized that the manga already ended years ago.. :(

The best thing about this op is that when it reaches the part near the end when they're all running around the heart, the song feels like it's going to end. But there's still an extra bit, which is really satisfying

Great review man! I didnt realize those zooms connect in some way (because they went by so fast) nor that the visuals often connect with the lyrics. My favorite moments in this OP are when the camera rotates around the singing girls, when the girls shake their hips, and mio's walk-and-stop pose. Running on top of a rotating heart is of course brilliant as well. I think they're very well animated and just bursting with character & energy.

Nichijou is an amazing anime, it is easily my favorite anime of all time since i finished it
There's no character that you leave behind, even if its a supporting character that only has 0 minutes of screentime, you will remember at least one moment of that character
Really wished there was a third/second season, since there's still a ton of content in the manga

I saw a clip of this anime on youtube and I wanted to binge it but since I didn't know the name of the anime I just tried to remember the face of the character that I saw which is Yuuko
and then after a year I saw a clip of railgun and thought that Misaka looked like yuuko so I ended up binging the railgun series thinking I might see the funny scene as a clip or somethin
after binging 4 seasons being railgun, railgun s, index, and railgun t I soon realized that maybe I was watching the wrong anime

My fav comedy anime is Osomatsu-san, heh.. It's OP also happens to be one of my favorites, with all the colorful imagery and the way the animation is for certain scenes, even the song seems to add a nice, cheerful touch to the OP overall. Thats all ive got to say.

This is my favorite comedy, Good Luck Girl is a close second.
I remember the first time I watched this, I finished the opening, looked at my friend and said, how long has it been? He says 1 minute and I'm just in awe because it felt like I had just watched an entire story arc. I'm not sure why, maybe it's because of how much there is in the opening to watch.

I always felt it was a good representation bc the asthetic shows the randomness of the show, but the songs theme is realistic and also plays into a decent amount of the cast. randomness and relatableness tend to be the two main factors of comedy slice of Life, and I feel like that's why it's a great opening.
