Love this clip!! Not only did she lose her husband in an accident before dying young herself - she's sadly forgotten today.

Its hard to get an idea of her talent because the style of acting. Singing. Dancing. All drastically changed.
I've seen her perform a classic ballet and she was charming...but then ballet doesn't change much. People don't realize Marilyn Monroe was named for this Marilyn, her name goes on in a way with the later star....both famous blondes. Dying around 36, too young.

As they sing, compliment one another... just look at the facial expressions. Unique. Just so wonderful!

Marilyn Miller's statue, along with those of her peers Rosa Ponselle, Ethel Barrymore and Mary Pickford, can be seen on the front of the former I. Miller building at Broadway and West 46th Street in Manhattan. All four statues, which were commissioned as a result of a readers' poll in 1927, have been restored to their original form when they were unveiled in 1929.

Oh my God I thought I was the only one in the world to know about that building I noticed it first when I came to New York in 1959 and I never go uptown without trying to look up there if I walk by and see them to some of them are behind the sign they really should take them and make them visible. Nobody cares anymore never did would never happen in place like London or Paris. I was there the day they tore down the Roxy and I just cried my mother used to take me there when I was a boy it was one of the most beautiful if not the most beautiful Movie Palace in the world should never have been touched. Too bad Mrs Kennedy didn't step in. I guess she wasn't even Mrs Kennedy at that time. I'm finished

@@roderickfernandez5382 I'm not a fan of the Kennedys but I'll always be grateful to JFK's widow for saving Grand Central Station. I wish she'd been around to save Penn Station and the Roxy as well.

Marilyn Miller is radiant and a good actress; you can see that there's something going on in her head. The music, the orchestration, the chemistry between the two singers...it's lovely!

If you enjoy Lawrence Gray, make sure you hear him doing another wonderful song, Rodgers and Hart's "With a Song in My Heart" from 1930, here on TH-cam.

My grandmothers aunt. My grandmother, Marilyn, was named after her. She loved seeing her movies on TV. They would show them even before cable. My grandmother would have loved the internet and TH-cam with all the clips of her. I know I sure do enjoy it.

I would love to know how with her voice and no microphone she could read the third balcony of that and huge theater on 42nd Street and I'm sure that the person at the very top of the building could hear but I don't know how.

There was once a strange TV movie about Ziegfeld, which portrayed Miller as a backstage bitch. One of the big scenes of the movie had Miller just before going onstage one night getting the news that her husband had been killed. She was all torn up but Flo pushed her out on the stage and she did Poor Butterfly while in tears. The TV movie has not been shown for maybe 30 years.
