Really, all Olivia Colman has to do to make me love her is to act - but then she gives interviews like this and I just realise she’s even more delightful when she’s being herself. Such an amazing artist & human!
Olivia is such a comfort person. Sweet, quirky, grounded, honest, she radiates warmth and empathy. It's always so funny to see how surprised she is at her own success even though she deserves every single bit of it.
Watched this evening and really enjoyed it. Olivia Colman makes me smile and laugh - imagine thumping an angel in the nativity play?! Or indeed laughing so much that you pee on stage?? And also liked Rufus telling her about mis-timing his entrance as a chicken but deciding to brave it out. Looking forward to watching the next two of these as well.
Having a wonderfully NT-filled day!! So lovely to see the inside of the building again, with the most wonderful Olivia....To hear more about Rufus too, who was amazingly emotional while introducing Death Of England, shortly before the lockdown. Thank you for sharing, so that the NT can have more support xxx
there's something quite special about olivia that makes us feel safe and grounded. she's so real, spontaneous and simple. love her to bits! and i would've loved to see her peeing on stage cos i would pee myself too
I really admire Olivia, as she seems so normal! I know what you're thinking, what does normal mean? well unlike a lot of actresses and actors, who once gaining fame act very bitchy and rude and like they above everyone, she's the opposite she just seems like one of us instead above us. And I admire that... that makes a good actress. An amazing excellent actress but also a great role model and clearly so kind and refreshing. She is the warm hug that everyone needs :)) I have a very similar story of how I got into acting and would love to work with her in the future!!!
Thank you for uploading this wonderful interview! I enjoyed the interaction between these two. I love Olivia Coleman and how she started Theater. Very good questions too.
Thank you for this wonderful feature NT. I'm from Singapore and I'm so inspired by this video that I've just signed up for a one year subscription for NTathome. Keep the flame alive! And THANK YOU!
Misread this as "Life is Strange" and I thought "A stage production already ?". :) Great idea for a series , I always enjoy hearing actors talk about their understanding and approaches to theater , their relationships with the plays...
Either Olivia is a brilliant actress (which she is) or she's equally empathetic as a person with how she listens to another person and empathizes appropriately - which is probably a quality that makes her a great actress. Anyway, she'd also make a good therapist, I feel. 🤓
Great interview - thanks! Olivia is extremely likeable and it is clear both she and Rufus know and get along with one another well. I usually enjoy actors/directors/people in the business chatting or interviewing each other more than I do when it's an interview by a journalist or reporter, so I look forward to seeing the others in this series. The sound/volume is very quiet though - have noticed this with National Theatre online productions too; just wondering if there is anything that can be done about that, NT?
I agree with you about the sound. It was fine when listening initially on the phone but dreadful on the TV, I had to have the volume up full and I still missed hearing things.
I saw her in Mosquitoes at the Dorfman, and I'm surprised to hear she gets nervous beforehand, you don't think of that when watching professionals on stage. Everyone was great in that play, no nerves were discernable... well, not by me.
I think it is fairly common. David Tennant talks a lot about how frightening it is and how he has imposter syndrome. I think he and Olivia talked about it on DT's podcast.
I hope Rufus Norris is doing all of them. Usually the interviewer gets on my wick but he's so nice and engaging. Mark Rylance would be a good subject and Michael Gambon if he's able.
I was thinking during the interview about how adept David Tennant was in his podcast with her, at turning her questions to him back on her, so the focus remained on her.
Really, all Olivia Colman has to do to make me love her is to act - but then she gives interviews like this and I just realise she’s even more delightful when she’s being herself. Such an amazing artist & human!
I also wish Helen McCrory's journey would have been part of this series. May her soul rest in peace.
Helen McCrory, a great actress. May she rest in peace. Hope National Theater will stream “Deep Blue Sea” again in memory of her excellent performance.
Just spotted this also on youtube - Helen McCrory in conversation at the National Theatre, London

Oh gosh I didn’t know....I am so lost for words
🖤
We miss her terribly already.
Olivia is such a comfort person. Sweet, quirky, grounded, honest, she radiates warmth and empathy. It's always so funny to see how surprised she is at her own success even though she deserves every single bit of it.
Olivia is lovely...so natural and humble. I can't imagine anyone being ugly towards her.
By the end it's as if no time has passed...engrossing joy-filled conversation - just love Olivia Colman!
I've only recently discovered Olivia Coleman in broadchurch and she's so brilliant and talented, now I want to watch everything she's in! 😊
Olivia is so precious! Love her! Rufus should direct another theater play with her again! Mosquitoes was just amazing!
there are no words to describe how much I love her🥺
I appreciate the decision to point the camera back to the crew and show who else is present behind the scenes
Great questions and even better interaction between these two actors, a must watch the time flew by.

42 minutes just flew by - thoroughly enjoyable interview! 🧡

Thanks for this experience. So natural, so humble, so real.

This is amazing, I feel so warm and safe seeing Olivia Colman
Thank you both so very much for doing this WITH the cameras ON!!!
Thank you for uploading this wonderful interview! I enjoyed the interaction between these two. I love Olivia Coleman and how she started Theater. Very good questions too.
I loved hearing about Rufus Norris in the past as well. Much admire his work at the National Theatre.
She's so deliciously normal and humble and pretty and funny. I don't think I can love her more.
Yes I am ready to go back to watch a play in the theater! Any play, in any theater
She is wonderful. Just so beautiful and lovely. Still smitten.

Amazing actress, super talented and super special.
Such a lovely interview. Ahh yes the stage really is Heaven when you hit that ‘spot’ she was talking about!
Misread this as "Life is Strange" and I thought "A stage production already ?". :) Great idea for a series , I always enjoy hearing actors talk about their understanding and approaches to theater , their relationships with the plays...

So excited for this!

Anyway, she'd also make a good therapist, I feel. 🤓
I love Olivia Colman so much 💖
This was so satisfying to watch, listen and at some level even feel the lives around theatre ❤️❤️
A lovely talk to listen to
Great! Thank you!
Great interview Olivia is a funny Lady.

No problem with sound when I watched just now (27 April).
I agree with you about the sound. It was fine when listening initially on the phone but dreadful on the TV, I had to have the volume up full and I still missed hearing things.
She’s so lovely ☺️ 🥰

No he isn't I think
He is brilliant, much respect for him in his role at the National Theatre. I look forward to seeing further interviews.
21:25 Hightlight of my day
She's adorable!! 😍😍❤❤❤
She is delightful !
I don't know if anyone said this but I remember the first movie I saw Olivia colman in was murder on the orient express. She is a very good actress.
'Tyrannosaur' - a masterpiece.
brilliant interview..!
This is an adorable chat
beautiful
Grazie mille, una conversazione bellissima. Lucia da verona
I Wish You all the best for the reopening !
It is a life goal of mine to meet and WORK with Olivia Colman
Is this interview available here only for a limited time?
10:44 This lol
Will it be available to watch for 24 hours ? Or is it just for live streaming ?
Hi Tanu, this will stay on our TH-cam channel, so you have plenty of time to watch!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👏🏻
I never knew actors could be such normal geeky people
You should check out her episode of David Tennant's podcast. All the episodes, really.
Would love to see in a tv series with Jemma Redgrave both playing in a police series similar to Silent Witness.
Can we get a "Life in Stages with Olivia Colman, but it's just every time Olivia makes a face" and it's just full of clips like 23:16
❤️
Is he interviewing her or is she interviewing him
It's a conversation between them! They're interviewing each other
So interesting. Sadly London looks like you're having problems with the newest variant of the virus. Stay safe everybody. Love from down under...
It took me a while to get why they all went to drummers school.
Haaaaaaa drama
I feel that Ms Colman is in the same mould as Brenda Blethyn.
Thought the guy was Tommy Sheridan
Why is Queen Elizabeth in jeans and sneakers?!!
Get Graham Norton on!
Not to be overly random but.. WHAT kind of sneakers is she wearing?? They're so sick!
I love them so much!
Let Olivia speak for god sick!
I was thinking during the interview about how adept David Tennant was in his podcast with her, at turning her questions to him back on her, so the focus remained on her.
Read the title and the synopsis. “In conversation”......it’s not supposed to be a one-sided interview.
He's excited about his craft and she's a good listener :)
Olivia has no range, but went to Oxbridge and uses her elite contacts in the industry to get roles.
yeah...sure. no range? Lol If you say so.
Try to sound less foolish than you actually are.
