The matching three colours green/orange/black theme of the shirt is not lost on us. I managed to scoop up one roll here in Japan, I'm waiting for a nice sunny day to run the roll through its paces. Thanks for the review!
Omg, that had me in stitches😂💀 Shirt was $35 from Myer! I was undecided about it but my son said he liked it ha ha. Stay tuned for more shirts 😂 The colours from Color Mission are great! Can't wait to shoot more. I'd love you to check out my podcast!
Well done Matthew! Such a great first video can’t wait to see what you do next. Love your shots with the adox and the colours are divine. Can’t wait to shoot a roll of it. Congrats 🥳 on starting your channel!
Well done Matt! Great video! I’ve been “saving” my rolls of color mission, but now feeling tempered to go fire off the first one tomorrow! So glad to have you on TH-cam!
Wow, what a beautiful film-and the emulsion isn’t too bad either! To be honest, I quite like the out of focus shots as well; you can still enjoy the richness of tonality even though sharpness goes out the window. Looking forwards to more films like these: videos for your channel, as well as new film stocks when they come out.
This was great man! Welcome to the TH-cam world, you're a natural (I'm sure doing the podcast helped?) 👍🏼 I'm looking forward to trying the roll of this I have in the fridge.
Thanks so much Hashem! Appreciate your kind words 😄🙏 I was telling Lucy I thought this video would be about 8 minutes and it ended up at 16, I still have a lot to learn ha ha!
Nice video and some good info and insights to this film! I managed to get 2 rolls and shot! Hoping to get a few more and test in different conditions! Looking forward to see more of your posts.
Great shots, despite the painful focus errors I was tempted to peel the label off of my canister, but now I'm wishing I had sooner! Super fascinating. I really like this film one roll in, so I'm hoping they can get somewhere around this when they're able to put it into actual production. Also, welcome to TH-cam!!
Matt you are definitely the David Attenborough film photography! Great to hear that you’re having fun with some new colour film and I love the video. I am will be subscribing to this rather cool channel,
Yesss!! So awesome to see your first video, so nicely put together and really great evaluation of the color mission film, cannot wait to see what you do next!! Agree with the highlights are something to watch with this film, really enjoyed your images, despite the lens blip, you have so many nice ones there :)
Hi Matt, lovely review. We have spooled Color Mission in the relabeled Forte canisters because we have a genuine stock of those and film canisters are impossible to find today. So some of the money from the Color Mission project is also going to the R&D for making our own canisters. We will soon launch Color Mission II "Helios" which will be available in larger quantities. Mirko (Adox)
Oh wow, thanks for your reply Mirko! As you can tell I love Color Mission, I have a second video about it on my channel 😁 Is there any difference in formula in Color Mission II Helios?
@@MattLovesCameras Yes. Color Mission I is the ultimate target. This is where we want to end with the mission. On our journey until there we will release several versions which are in one or another parameter different. Color Mission II "Helios" is a fully functional color film but with a low ISO and compared to Color Mission I only a third of the emulsions/layers. Its not balanced yet either. Upsides: We coated master rolls and can finish all formats including 120. It was cheaper to produce and can be offered at a more competitive price.
@@liberealistic9964 Oh wow very exciting! Are there any timelines for release? Not sure if you've seen it yet, but I also featured Color Mission 200 in this video 😄 th-cam.com/video/WFZY4Ky3VO0/w-d-xo.html
Nice - the blues, greens and oranges look amazing! Have been looking to get some of this sent to NZ over the past month or so since I first saw it on TH-cam, no luck yet but fingers crossed. Looking forward to seeing the next few rolls.
Thanks Keith! I just got my 3rd and 4th rolls back and I love the photos even more than the first 2 rolls! Hope you are able to get some! I'll let people know on here if I'm able to source more in coming months
Great 1st video Matt! I picked up 2 rolls through Decisive Moment in Melbourne. I sympathise with you over getting film into Australia. I'd have loved to get some Cinestill 400D direct from them but postage is a deal killer. Love the shirt! wow the orange and green really pop!
Hi Matt, I wanted to grab some Colour Mission 200 but was too slow off the mark and got a brick of 400D instead. I love what you got out of your test roll and I look forward to seeing what Lucy Lumen can do with this film.
First of all, I love the art direction on this film and marketing...it's SO good! I really wish I could have gotten some of this film, but had just pre-ordered a bunch of Lomo Turquoise and don't like to have a bunch of film sitting in the fridge (and money isn't endless). That might be my only complaint about all the latest releases...if you don't bulk buy right way, stock is gone and then the only way to get some is to pay inflated prices on ebay, etc. But that's not just happening in the film community and it's a shame. I think this film would fit perfectly in same bag as Metropolis and Purple as a really nice triad of fun "alternate color" films. Turquoise is just a little too out there for most people :P Glad you are making YT videos now and look forward to more content from you!
Thanks so much Patrick! You're right about all the new films, they leave a bit of a hole in your wallet 😅 I've also pre-ordered Turquoise, Agent Shadow, and Cinestill 400D. I'll be glad when they arrive as I can sell some rolls to fund my next purchase! I'm running a competition via my podcast for Turquoise in the second half of 2022!
I managed to grab a couple of rolls of this and yet to shoot them. I’m waiting for the light and weather in the UK to really hit the spot before I do. Which could be a long wait...
there is some Pentax point and shoots that will default to 25 ISO if no DX code No idea why they chose that and I love Pentax. Perhaps they wanted to make sure you overexposed if anything.
Never bought the 90mm Contax because of it's reputation (was it supposed to work only only on the Green label body like the 35mm?). With the 45 and 28 on it, the G1 has the best autofocus on any Contax I've used. I don't think it's missed once and I've taken about 7 rolls. As for Adox, I don't like it particularly. It's the first time in a long time I've had film with blown out highlights (way worse than your examples tbh) that can't be fixed in post. It's just too much hassle when scanning yourself too.
Good question, I think there is a known issue with all versions of the G1 and the 90mm. I originally bought it when I had a G2 and kind of forgot about that issue when I was shooting. The 28 and 45 are fantastic lenses! I have missed very few shots with them. Oh wow really? I'm sorry to hear that. My mate Alan also had mixed results :(
I love this film. I bought one roll for $50--film and shipping from Germany. The Adox description of the color rending of this film is 100% accurate. The color is unique yet still quite accurate. The grain is just enough to let everyone know the images were shot on film. Wish this film would be both widely available and available in the future. Part of my liking of Adox Color Mission is in its comparison to the other new film I tried in 2022--Cinestill 400D. I found Color Mission to be a good film for almost all situations and subjects. Cinestill 400D was a disappoint in how it rendered colors in some situations. A series of sunset photos that should have been filled with pastel yellows, pinks and oranges were overall pale green. Such a disappointment compared to Color Mission. Hopefully, the next Adox color film will be similar or just as interesting and good.
Yes I love it too! Sadly we can only buy 3 rolls at a time from fotoimpex, that doesn’t make shipping to Australia worthwhile sadly. Thanks for watching! 😊🙏
Thank you for this review and for the photos you provided especially the portraits as other reviews on youtube do not really provide actual people photos to show how this film render with skin. My concern is when you said that when used with a point and shoot it will set the speed at 100. I have an slr camera that sets the speed automatically according to the film's speed. Will it also set the speed at 100? Any thoughts?
Hi Mel! Thanks so much for your comment, I'm glad you enjoyed the review! Which SLR camera do you have? A lot of SLRs have an override where you can set the ISO yourself. Make sure you subscribe to my channel as I am putting together another video with my 3rd and 4th rolls of Adox Color Mission! It should drop in the next week. There are more people shots on those rolls too. I shot the first 12 frames on one camera at ISO100 but the images look fine. Overall, I think Color Mission is a fantastic film. You will get better skin tones from other films such as Portra 400 and Fuji Pro 400H, but it's still capable of beautiful images.
@@MattLovesCameras I will be using a Nikon N55. Looking forward to your future post of people shots with Adox cm200. Portra 400 is nowhere to be found around me in NY. I figured I'd try adox so I ordered some from Australia. It was around $24US + $25US shipping. It took about a month. lol
@@melm4499 Hi Mel! I just looked up the N55, yes you're right, looks like you can't set the ISO! How odd. I read that it sets non-DX coded film at ISO 100 - this will be one stop brighter than ISO200. In that case, you could set the exposure compensation setting on the camera to -1 stop to cancel out the extra stop of light if you wish 😄As I said above, the first dozen or so images on my T3 looked fine shot at ISO100, so I wouldn't worry too much either way 🙂
I'd have the perfect excuse for the blurry pics...I was just shooting the Invisible Man when he disappeared and that's all just the bokeh :) :P That orange flowered plant you like the look of is actually a weed species. It's African Tulip, a fairly large tree, actually. The flowers are actually toxic to native animals and insects, especially bees. The nectar can kill insects and make birds pretty sick.
Oh wow, those trees are everywhere in Brisbane! Never noticed them until recently. And as for the blurry pics lol, that 90mm lens is stuck on my shelf for now Carl!
They're everywhere up here in Townsville as well. They're a nuisance, really. Get into powerlines and their roots get into drains and sewers. The council has been cutting them down, especially where they're in public areas. You know, you could always get a G2 and put it to good use :)
