The silicone straw should be able to "snap" together. One side has a tongue and the other has a groove and you just press them together to create a seal and then you can use it like a normal straw. You can wrap them around metal straws like people are saying but you can also just use them as straws themselves. Some companies advertise the ability to unroll it because it makes it easier to clean.
