    The Blue Hornets have been my favorite live airshow team for many years. I'm 71 and look forward to seeing them in Southern Michigan as often as possible. A retired Marine, I might be slightly prejudiced. I rode Sea Night helicopters off the deck of LPH-10 Tripoli into battle missions all around DaNang 67'-68'. Got my fixed and rotary wing Commercial Licenses years later. Ooorah Marines/Go Navy.

      Good thing the Rhinos are here. Navy will stick to older 4th gen jets for longer, but AF is starting to slowly phase out the older F16 and F15 for the new F35. Don't get me wrong, F35 is great, but the 4th gen guys are classic. But the 4th gen jets were the best ever created, so they will remain in all the branches for years to come.

    I can remember the first time I saw the Blue Angels perform was in 1973 at Selfridge ANGB, Michigan. At the time the Blue Angels flew the A-4 Skyhawk, and the were just magnificent. I remember their team leader was Captain Casey Jones. I have issues with wearing a military uniform speaking high praises of a corporation. If the service member was a decision maker announcing a contract, that is part of an official process.
    This is a service member in uniform on a corporate TH-cam channel appearing to read a script written or at least approved by said corporation.
    It is in the style and presentation of an advertisement for Boeing. Who gave this pilot the authority to speak on behalf of the entire United States about the absolutely flawless company?

    To hear that Capt. Doyle expects the F-18's to be used as Blue Angels for another 25 years is amazing. I would have expected for another, newer plane to take the F-18's place long before another 25 years passes. We will see.....The F-18's are an incredible plane for the Blue Angels, but I saw the great F-4's put on their show back in the 70's and they are still my favorite Blue Angel.

      The Marine Corp gets the hand-me-downs of the Navy. The Blue's get the Hand-Me-Downs of the Marine Corps. So even if a new better jet came out today, it will be another 20 years before they "might" transition. How long have the Super hornets been around? (First flight of E/F was 1995) And the Blues are JUST NOW getting them. Turning in the A, B, C and D models for the E and F models. 25 years AFTER they were introduced

It sure seems odd, doesn't it, that as great a recruiting tool that the Angels are that they don't keep up with the newer planes, but as I think about it they never have. I saw them with the F-4's in the early 70's when the F-4 was already about 15 years old ( which really wasn't that old). • @jollyrogerhobbies2386
      @jollyrogerhobbies2386 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@marbleman52 You say it is odd that they do not keep up with the newer models. But think of it this way, they are a Demonstration Team. The aircraft they use have all the unnecessary components removed like the ones for war ie missile racks, avionics (for missions) etc. All they need is the Airframe. There is a tight budget, especially now in the military. All the high performance high quality ready fighter planes go to where they are needed, the front lines. The older aging planes go to the back where the Blue's are. Now that being said, this does NOT mean that they are bad aircraft, worn out, useless or anything like that. They are very well maintained and safe. However they are just not suitable for combat anymore. This happens to all branches of the military. The back lines is where old aircraft go, where there are used in many ways; Demonstration teams, training bases and avionic and mechanic schools etc.
      And oh when those 18's engines scream, you cover your ears and feel it hit your chest. Yes sir!

      I read an article interview of a pilot who flew F16, F15, and F18 C and E. He says the Super hornet is only a little less responsive in roll, but overall maneuvering potential is increased due to engines being a lot more powerful, the ability to carry a lot more fuel, a stiffer airframe (you’d see legacy hornets wings flex up massively under load, not so much with super hornets) , more lift, and altered aerodynamics. It’s the same fly-by-wire logic and the aircrafts are programmed to react to its inputs and environments the same way

    I'd like to see the RCAF get Super Hornets. Our procurement process is horrible. The gov't even resorted to buying used Australian birds to try and make up for some of the attrition. It's an embarrassment that our front line fighters are nearly 40 years old.

    • @Blowinshiddup
      @Blowinshiddup 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm no fan of the F-35 for a big glaring reason- one engine. Yes, they're better than the ol' J-79 etc, but one bird and you have nowhere to go but DOWN... At least with 2 engines we've seen some CF-18s come home that wouldn't have. We can't afford a high loss rate either, since we only buy the minimum to begin with, then fly the balls off 'em.

    • @GrindBass86
      @GrindBass86 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@bowser515 No, the F-35 isn't off the table, but it's also not a lock anymore. RCAF is considering the Super Hornet, F-35, and the Gripen. My money is on the Super Hornet, simply for reliability, maintainability, familiarity, cost effectiveness, as well as having 2 engines. These planes have to be able to patrol the Arctic on a regular basis, losing your only engine up there is a big deal. It's a proven platform that will be easy to maintain with quick access to parts and service. It might not be the most long term solution, but it's still the one that makes the most sense at the moment.

      The F-35 comes in three variants and they are:
      1. F-35a (conventional takeoff and landing)
      2. F-35b (V/STOL or what Lockheed Martin called it STOVL, although it can takeoff and land conventionally too)
      3. F-35c (carrier based)
      Only the F-35b can do a V/STOL not a VTOL and it can’t take off vertically, it can only land vertically. And (V/STOL) stands for (vertical or short takeoff or landing) and the F-35b can takeoff from short runways or short decks etc and can only land vertically.
