dear friends! I filmed this video BEFORE Amanda got in touch about building her own grungy rainbow. I'm really excited that we managed to co-ordinate and post our videos on the same day, but I'm sorry that I didn't get the chance to talk about her in this video as with a proper collab. Allow me to expand on that idea with "a rainbow palette that was a philosophy undergrad, and dropped out upon reading 'The Myth of Sisyphus'; realizing that the burdens of a faulty educational system and the lack of jobs for such a major were his/her boulder, and the only recourse was to rebel against the system entirely".

I love the idea of "grungy rainbow"--I have been wanting a "dirty jewel tone" palette. I think those do exist, but if anyone has ideas, I'm happy to hear. Or--maybe this grungy rainbow qualifies!

@@simplyrowen Ok---well, this gets a little long-- I've been thinking about it for a while because I'm looking for "dirty jewel tone" clothes. I had a 90s floral dress that I think of as having these colors--and I can't believe I got rid of it and wish I hadn't. Jewel tones are rich and related to the colors of jewels (typically emerald, citrine, topaz, amethyst, sapphire, ruby, etc) and to lighten it up you could add amber (OK, more of a stone), peridot, aquamarine...In clothing, if you look for jewel tones, you often see a lot of satin shiny stuff to keep the color vibrant. My dress was the typical 90s rayon, which automatically softened the colors, and a little toned down-as if some raw umber tint was added, maybe. (I often mix paint in my professional life). That's the story. To make this work for eyeshadow, some adjustments, or liberties need to be taken of course, or else it wouldn't be wearable. I actually can't quite imagine what this would look like in a shadow palette either, which is why I like the idea.

🔆I too am a big singles fan & I store mine very similarly, aka in larger palettes, & then enjoy putting together smaller palettes with interesting or simply more cohesive color stories regularly. I SO enjoy the process - it genuinely feels almost therapeutic to me - but don’t know anyone in my “real life” who would relate, much less who enjoys doing the same thing, so in addition to simply enjoying the video & palette in & of themselves it is also always nice to see you & others appreciating/ enjoying palette/ color story assembly as much as I do😘
Yes I love the overhead shooting you’ve been doing!! Plus is just so fun to play with single shadows! I really need to do a shadow organization video. Mine are set up by brand. And that just makes no sense considering my brain organizes the world by color.

Isn't arranging your freeform singles palettes so much fun? One thing about maintaining a small, tightly edited stash for a while is that you really enjoy the process of picking and choosing exactly the colors and textures you want; after a while you don't miss premade palettes unless they truly fit your lifestyle.
This! All of this! I have neutral palettes and then basically add colors from my singles. I never need any new palettes again.

I think that discovering the world of singles eyeshadows has ruined premade palettes for me. I feel I have become too demanding to tolerate their flaws. Obviously, that's from my point of view, not that there has to be anything bad about that palette itself, it's just that unlike other people that are ok liking just a few shades in a palette, that's not my case anymore.
I’ve never buffed color cosmetics onto my skin before your channel and it has been a game changer for me. I hope that you post many grungy looks from your collection.

Ugh, I looove this! Grungy eyeshadows are definitely my thing too! I have been hunting for a single deep purple like that for awhile and its hard to find outside of a palette. This sure was fun, makes me want to go play with my own eyeshadows too! Lol

I created my perfect autumn palette and I just love it. I put magnets under some of my already existing palettes and I like to grab some shades from here and there. I'm glad others had the same idea!! I talked about a grungy rainbow months ago when I made a dark rainbow to pair with a neon palette. In my storage palettes, if I'm sorting by color, I allow gaps and different pan sizes. I do have dedicated palettes specifically for creating palettes. I don't like when pans are different sizes in customized palettes, but it's something that I definitely battle with.

This video has been eye candy for me. I've been enjoying watching these recent videos of you doing overhead views of playing with your singles and building palettes. PLEASE keep doing it. It's visual and auditory joy for me. I'm also super inspired to create my own grunge palette... which I very much lack shadows for as grungy tones are a recent love for me. Could you do a video like this showing your colourpop shadows? Their build your own bundle is so awesome and you're such a pleasure to watch. Also, I'd absolutely love to see looks you do with this palette... and other palettes you've curated for yourself. I don't need tutorials... but a slideshow of narrated looks would be amazeballs.

Makeup Just Fore Fun is one of my favorite and creative makeup channels. I am so glad she recommended you. I am wanting to delve into the world of single shadows and making a palette instead of spending so much (I stay drugstore priced, lol) on a palette just to use 1 color. I am really wanting to make or get a good purplish palette but have yet to find one that suits me and also has the complementary colors I would enjoy personally. Making my own may be what I have to do (any recommendations tho??) Anyway, LOVE what you were saying in the beginning and the whole video. So glad to have found you. Hope you show yourself sometimes, but I love the way this one was done. Many blessings!!

Loved this video! I discovered your channel last Christmas and, by far, these latest videos are being the most inspiring ones for me. Love how you play with your eye shadows and inspire me to do the same with mine. Right now I'm craving a grunge rainbow palette, and will try to get it, even though I have less than 5 singles. But I'm thinking of depoting a couple of palettes that I don't use that much just to try to give them more love.
The end result reminds me of Urban Decay Born to Run. I probably would have swapped the orange glitter for a shimmery brown, but I also just avoid glitter at costs haha, it’s not for me.

So fun!! I don't know if it's just me or what, I think everyone's definition for "blue" and "green" are so different~ the blues you chose look more green to me, but they're still pretty~
This is the type of content that makes me want to go 'feral' (as Nisi would say) and depot my ENTIRE collection. I depotted several palettes last winter, and it's basically the best part of my collection now. You really do have to embrace amorphousism though. Magnetic palettes are always in transition, never complete or finished.
It reminds me of good sport palette by colourpop... love it!

I actually don’t have many singles at all. I have pallets laying around with 2 or 3 shades in it that I might use. I’m getting inspired to tare their guts out.
Do ittttt, it's great. Though I suggest actually getting a hold of an induction burner (like the Z-Potter or a generic one) beforehand. I tried to do it using steam and/or dry heat from a pot on the stove... So many broken shadows... 😅
De-pot your pallets! I have and it is very satisfying to play.
Naomi PR Yeah I never de potted a pallet before. I’m going to watch a video on it.
@@TracyD2 There are lots of "how to" videos. I didn't buy anything special, I had a slim enough knife to de-pot. I would suggest that you start with a shadow that you won't be crushed if it breaks on you. However, you can also re-press broken shadows, blushes and bronzers. Let us know if you do it!
I liked the first version of the “grungy” palette. I feel like it was happier, but happier isn’t grunge. Grunge is attitude and depth. I could pop out a lot of my shadows from their palettes, but I’m afraid to lose the strict order and mess with the overall “brand vision” of my collection. You made me realize how insane that sounds. It’s MY collection.
I'm depotting my palettes (done two already). I may keep on in tack, but I may not. It is seriously a beautiful cool toned smoky palette and I love it just the way it is, but I also just want to have all my eyeshadows on the same palette that I can pull from without going to any other palettes. I also just got a small that if I want I can put that color story back together. I think I will depot it, but I will make (or not make) a move when I get there.

Someone has likely suggested this before, but since you are such an amazing storyteller and artist, what if you did storytime with make-up, such as telling us about the fabulous masquerade ball you attended (from planning your costume to the actual ball), your time as an actress in Europe, playing in the forest while growing up in North Carolina, and/or telling us about the creation of a poem, all while putting on makeup inspired by these events? Your life is enchanted poetry!
