    One thing i have found about mbunas.. As they grow they can handle high protein pretty well. But, when they are small or juveniles they are more susceptible to bloat.

    Hi Kaity, I like how you mix the type of food you feed them. That is the best way to,keep them all happy. I use mostly Northfin brand. Very high quality. I do also feed them Hikari vibra bites. This is drugs for fish! They all love it. Not just my African cichlids but also my South American cichlids and my tiger barb / buenos Aries tetra tank. They are shaped like blood worms and fish go crazy for them. Like you said Hikari is not the best food alone but mixed with other foods it works.

      This was an awesome fish food tutorial. Have you tried ocean nutrition pellets ? I’m wondering how they would do with those. They have two main formulas - a carnivore and an herbivore. And also a Cichlid excel. Its funny my fish love the bug bites spirulina as well :).

    Hi from NZ! I use the New Life Spectrum Algae Max for my mbuna and I have sourced the large pellets from my local fish store. They are still quite small for adult mbuna, but larger than the regular pellets.

    Those things we refer to as fillers are needed to get the food to “cake” so it can stay in some form of a shape. Otherwise the food would be powder……..

    • @Kaityscichlids
      @Kaityscichlids  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! Not particularly, there are a few who gauge themselves more than others, and if they eat food that has a lot of fillers it can make their bellies look a bit round

    • @bettyboo1930
      @bettyboo1930 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @Kaityscichlids
      @Kaityscichlids  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bettyboo1930 Have a look at their heads, and if they have a thin/pinched appearance around their forehead, it can indicate they're underweight. Or if they have a sunken belly. If they don't have that, and they're all doing healthy and fine, I wouldn't worry too much about it :)

    What is the background colour of your fish tank?

  • @Shashankmk
    @Shashankmk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is color only about food or also about water quality, lightening & stress?

    • @Kaityscichlids
      @Kaityscichlids  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It all contributes, but feeding the colour food has definitely enhanced their colours beyond what they would be otherwise. Mostly for the females, and not as much the males

  • @AlexGarcia-ek4qj

    Hello there, I like the food that you were giving for them to get color looked it up on the internet and it's paste in Australia. I have no way of getting it to US cause they do not ship can you help me? I will send you the money if you can.

  • @kylemcaree1413
    @kylemcaree1413 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Absolute colour definitely has some other ingredients in it the aren’t willing to share. No juvies should have the finnage yours had at their size (when you first got them) not to mention the colour. You would have a few juiced up females in your tank hidden as studs. Good way to sell fish though! I guess

    • @Kaityscichlids
      @Kaityscichlids  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I most definitely do! I didn't feed it to them for about half a year after I bought them and some of my females even had fry. Now they look like males 😂

    I have 14 african cichlids, and 2 of them are just above 2 inches, I feed them 3 pinches of optimum 3 in 1 three times a day. Am I overfeeding?

    • @Kaityscichlids
      @Kaityscichlids  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would base it on whether they are eating all of the food or not. If there is still a lot of food sitting on the bottom of the aquarium/floating 5 minutes after you've fed it then you can dial it back a bit. But 3 small portions a day like what you are doing is better than one huge lot in my opinion

    • @muzammilahmed8996
      @muzammilahmed8996 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Kaity thanks much for ur comments. I really appreciate ur reply. My cichlids finish the food (3 pinches worth) within a min. There is no chance of the food wastage at all. Should I increase the amount to an additional pinch? I sense they need more because they keep wandering even after finishing the food. Thanks!
