I loved your explanation of how to position highs and lows. Always remember with the wind to your back, over the Right shoulder High, over the Left shoulder Low. As simple as Red Right Returning (Sans Europe). The key to weather "Wisdom" is the "Weather Watch". This has three components, #1 Position/Direction of movement, #2 Speed and most importantly #3 Logging Observations. An accurate barometer and thermometer are essential as is an accurate chronometer (a damned good clock)! In your vid I noticed a lot of cirrus and on the horizon some nimbostratus (rain makers). Knowing the clouds are key and not being in "Your Boat" I could not venture a guess as to action. This is something a weather wise sailor has to experience. I am glad that you guys are bringing some of the finer points of sailing to the masses. It would be interesting if you would discus determining local mean time (I call it the four finger method) or the basics of an astrolabe and/or a sextant. Like Marlin Skills these are perishable skills, not just to the individual but society as a whole. Keep up the good work! ;)

I think he deserves some respect when he needs a blanket after an all-night watch, WHILE HE IS STILL THE ONE HELMING! Some alternative possibilities: "Hey Herb, you look cold, can I take over the helm for you?", "Hey Herb, you look cold, can I get you a hot drink?", "Hey Herb, you go get some rest and I'll handle things for awhile." Anything but "You pansy" - even in jest.

It’s Arroz Dulce from a distillery in the Azores. The distillery was called something along the lines of “women in cloaks” (it’s in Portuguese) The shot glasses were a gift from a fellow cruising friend.

Too bad you encountered outboard woes. It's the bane of many sailors. There are precautions and procedures one can take for long term storage for avoiding the problems you encountered, but they are too numerous and lengthy to relate here. Even with regular maintenance though, outboards are still a pain in the .....well, you know..... 😀

It was in rather old and obscure books that really go into clouds. Usually just a mention here or there! While the outboard dying was sad, it couldn’t have happened in a better place!
Don't buy a new outboard! You should be able to find a repairman who will work on your outboards for a very affordable price if you don't know how to do the repairs yourself. I can't think of anything that would cause your outboards to be unsalvageable short of letting them sit under seawater for a while. Soak the carb in WD-40 or other lubricant overnight, and disassemble.
There is a tack line that attaches at the reef point. You simply release the halyard to lower the sail, tighten the tack line, tighten the halyard. Then move the sheets up to the reef point as well. Optional: tie up the bottom with reef lines.
@@RiggingDoctor I can see your not racing, bullet proof , that's debatable , I am not insulting just observing, the kicker can hold the boom down stop the balloon, and take pressure of the rig, ie when running your sail goes onto the spreaders and rig, I agree let the kicker go in a blow, You have reached your destination , so it works, Algarve is cool go anchor up the river past ayamonte, cool area , I guess you've past this already , in real time ,

In the southern hemisphere a low pressure zone the winds are clockwise..
Very true! I’ve only been in the North so it’s what I use in practice. But yes, everything in the north is opposite in the south.

After a long sail, the new adventure begins. Too bad about the outboard salt air and water doesn't tend to be good for them.

We are a bit east of faro in this video. We pulled into Portimao.
We are going to the beaches of Normandy in about a month (by van).

Guys, we fought for years with ice outboards. Than we bought a trolling motor - it is a happy new World ever since..:)

Strange ,it looks a modern rig, i see your boom lifts depowering the main,, just observation.
I chose not to have it to make our rig more bulletproof for blue water passages.
The main does depower when the boom lifts, but we’re not racing
