Ren can do whatever he puts his mind to. Sing, rap, beatbox, produce, play multiple instruments, perform and tell stories like a modern day bard. You’re just dangling your feet over the Ren rabbit hole. Come join us down here. We will squeeze together to make space 😂

He had a comment on facebook where someone said "he should stick to being a singer" after he wrote some words about a childhood memory (haters gonna hate etc..)
His reply was: I'm not a singer, i'm just a person who sings :)

I'm lucky enough to have seen these guys live many times, around the streets and beach in Brighton and on stage. The energy around their performances and the diversity of genres they could adopt were something else to witness. I like to think that the original artists would have felt honoured to see their creations done such full justice and brought to younger generations.
The band are on indefinite hiatus while Ren is in Canada getting medical treatment and I believe Gorran (bass) and Glenn (drums) took the opportunity to go travelling. I'm hoping that they find their way back together in future but for now at least we have Ren killing it, and both Gorran Kendall and Romain Axisa also have their own solo material on TH-cam, well worth a look.

I'm a 66 year old woman who took a deep dive down the Ren rabbit hole a week ago, still down there. Don't want to surface. I've fallen in love with this young and, with rap, with everything he's created. He's a poet, actor, singer, amazing rapper, song writer and a warm, vulnerable human being. We need this guy's talent and humanity so much right now so we can connect to our own humanity. He's taken me into the chambers of my heart that echo's in places I never knew existed and I want to remain there. Moving between his genius and psychosis he is able to transform his pain into what we've become privy to in his creations.......WOW

It's funny you mentioned the regae artist option. I asked Rens permission before I sent his music to a family friend, Juma Sultan. He was Jimi Hendrix's percussionist. It also happened to be his birthday the other day, and he's still performing in his 80"s. Ren responded within a couple hours, which, to me reinforced his uncommon human connection with his fans that just seems so natural for him. After he mentioned Jimi in Hi Ren, hearing more of his music, witnessing the effect Ren has had on people regarding all of these things that separate or connect us, and his gratitude for the support in return, I thought of what Juma would always say when he talked about Jimi. He hated being called the greatest. Everyone just let him be great and make music. After Ren told me he would play Jimis records over and over while learning guitar and gave me the ok, I don't think I tried lining up a Playlist order so hard in my life before that moment! Wrote a long message to Juma trying my hardest to describe all that is Ren with all the links to his info of course and now I just saw a live performance of their band pop up today I need to send him because it's exactly what you were talking about here, covering some great songs! I'm excited to see what Juma's thoughts are. I didn't let him dive in blind like a reactor..... and I'm not throwing The Hunger at him as #1.😂 I did tell Ren I'm glad Juma's still around to hear his music today. He's an amazing person too.

Really enjoyed your reaction in the stream and here. The Big Push are amazing. There are more amazing covers, including Manu Chao's Bongo Bong, or their own Sweet Little Lady, but you haven't even covered Ren's Raps proper, yet! Power, Genesis, The Hunger, Losing it, but also Heretic and Life is funny. And then are his duets with Chinchilla, or Humble with Eden.
Their last street performance was October 22, before he got ready for Canada. I really hope you guys help him out. He cannot make the most out of this boost right now on the IV.

Well, England is where Reggae and SKA took off - outside of Jamaica.
There was an entire generation of Brits who grew up on the fusion of Punk and SKA from the 70s and 80s!
Ren is just following that trend, that never really went away.

There is a recording of their last concert at The Dome in Brighton which shows The Big Push on a stage, somewhere on TH-cam, which is brilliant. It demonstrates not just the musical talent but absolute showmanship too.
They closed the roads when huge crouds gathered to watch them busk on the streets of Brighton.... The big difference was there was a full on performance from a hugely talented National Treasure.

Screw what twitter says, good music is good music, it is a celebration, it is a tribute and it is original all at the same time. It is a Genre shift and many people in that crowd probably don't even know who Dead Prez is, so all he and the band are doing is bringing attention to the greats and will probably bring some downloads on their Spotify playlists. I am 55, I have lived through some great genre's, this is the next one happening right before our very eyes and it is beautiful, I am all in and enjoying the beauty of their art, the way they hear the past and bring it into their ears. So far what I hear is nothing but fire!

First off, this is only the second time checking out your channel, and shout out to you for giving a text book example of how to react to a song. Seriously, people think that shit is easy, even if you take away the ridiculous amounts of unseen work editing, uploading and dealing with youtube's bullshit, people think meh, you watch a video and see if you like it, big deal. Nope, and I'm not one to bitch about stopping a song, that's the whole point, but I get so infuriated with these clowns that stop the song at such an inopportune time, then apologize ten times for stopping it, then babble on about an obvious lyric or bar, and insert something unrelated about them personally, ugggh. Your stops don't ruin the flow of the song, they are quick, and what you have to say is insightful and adds to the content and enjoyment of the overall video, and I know for a fact that since you make it look so easy, that it goes underappreciated most times, so big props to you for taking this craft seriously, especially since I know you're a seasoned artist yourself and this isn't your main gig.
As far as Ren, I feel ya, you almost wanna be angry at the dude, like come on man, leave something for the rest of us, do you have to be so good at every friggin' thing...lol. Kid is a monster though, I think he earned every ounce of it though, saw him on a Twitch stream talking about his health, he had a deal with Sony in the works at 17 when he first got ill, and they ended up backing out. He said he knows he wouldn't be the artist today or have the ability to come up with deep songs like he does now without the struggle he's been through.
Oh, lastly, you could sing, I promise you. I once had a wise music teacher/mentor tell me "Everyone can sing, think about it, a kid decides he wants to play the trumpet, he goes to his room and starts practicing, and sounds like a bunch of cats having an orgy, what does the family and neighbors say, aww isn't that cute, Timmy is learning how to play trumpet. What do they say if you try singing the first time and you don't sound like Angelina Jordon, or Usher the first time, yup they tease ya, 'Don't quit your day job'. Not everyone can have the range of an Usher, or Chris Stapleton, and be naturally talented from day one, but everyone can learn to carry a tune, in their range, and sing confidently and quite well, our voices are no different than any other instrument." So never say never man, find yourself a good vocal coach and add that shit to your resume'!
Ok, enough of this old head rambling, take care, and did I see in the last video you somewhere in MO? I'm just outside the Lou, in SouthWest County out by six flags. Retired little early from firefighting, doing a side hustle til my old man benefits kick in, doing some drone photography, still building a portfolio, if you're near me and need some drone footage, hit me up, I'll comp ya a couple shoots if I can use them in my portfolio, let me know. Take care, great job, just subbed!

I don't know if anyone's commented on the whole 'cultural appropriation' thing, but as someone who is from several different racial backgrounds (Irish, Apache, German Jewish, Spanish French, and Mexican) I just wanted to share my opinion... I 100% believe that there have been legitimate stealings of cultures by those who seek to profit off it without care and without intention to give back. I could list hundreds from just my racial background alone. But in this case, in my opinion, when it comes to art... When it comes to an artistic celebration of another's culture, which is what I see here, then I don't see it as cultural appropriation. I see it as an honest desire to learn and love other cultures and celebrate diversity.
The thing with twitter is you have to remember that just because "everyone is going crazy with cultural appropriation" it doesn't mean everyone is going crazy with cultural appropriation. Algorithms are funny like that. They can take a few tweets with 200k likes and retweets and make you feel like everyone feels the same. There are 334 million people in the U.S. alone. Remembering that helps keeps things in perspective.
I think for the most part, people love to learn, experience, and share their own culture and other's. With all the nonsense in the world these days, I would think that embracing other cultures and celebrating their love for other cultures in a way that only art can do, is a very good thing. It brings us all together and reminds us all of our similarities, and lets us rejoice in the differences.
So when looking at any claims of cultural appropriation, I think it's best to allow for nuance. People need to examine the platform on how the culture is being shared instead of just offhandedly complaining that their culture is being stolen. Because there's only one world and we all must learn to share it. No one culture can forever exist without any outside influence. And I think it would be silly to try, and also detrimental to the evolution of humankind.
Like Bob Marley said, One Love. 🥰🙏🏽❤️

Bit late to this( not ren I was lucky enough to hear him along time ago) what you need to know is that it's the UK, cultural appropriation isn't really a thing here. Nor is racism. Jamaican music and their culture has been here for a very long time. Lots of bands and music has been developed because of it. Bob marly would love that and love that rework. Rens had evey kind of music poured into him and now it's all coming out. He is all music, no hate no racism...just pure homage to everything he has heard

I totally disagree with who you think is the woke culture talking about the appropriations. I'm a 68 y/o liberal and I can't stand the box you just put us all in. I've been watching your program for awhile now and thought you had more intelligence then to go down that road of the Republican party labeling the word woke as something evil. When most people are just more aware of and respectful of a persons culture. Music does not belong to any one culture if it speaks to a persons soul when they hear it. You should have stayed with your appreciation of his vibe instead of adding a stupid comment about political gaslighting to the content. Shame on you Black Pegasus. Now let me get back to enjoying your commenting on the music today instead of using gaslighting words.

Man, this is the kind if stuff that needs to be setup on every other block when cities have these festivals. Like the strawberry festival, music festival, etc., etc.
This is what sets a super cool vibe for everyone walking the streets and checking out all the vendors, etc. Gotta set a tempo and put plenty of beer stands up.
    Good times for sure!!

Sorry to say it but the "cultural appropriation" mentality is only in USA, i was born and raised in Europe and you have none of that when it comes about music, we listen music for what IT IS, exactly that: MUSIC! and appreciate the art regardless where it comes from. ♥️

"with a little bit of dough we can make it through the night", that's what he says in the middle. Remember they buskin = need the goodwill from the people getting themselves a experience for life...
Btw, have you seen what Ren can do with a bass? There's another medley/mash up with TBP where they cover Nina Simone, but that bass tho... Jeez... 🤯

As I've always said, Ren does not play art, he is the embodiment of art and music, it flows flawlessly though his veins, I loved your reaction and comments as well.
As for the WOKE crap, not to get political at all as I despise politics. but I have to quote DJT for a moment, in a rally it was stated "Everything WOKE turns to Shit" ~ President Donald J, Trump.
I just think we all need to stop pandering to this sick WOKE agenda nonsense. if they "Karen's" and the lunatics and SJW don't like it, who cares. we all need to stop with this self suppression, its what the WOKE want for you to be silenced and I say, speak louder. there is no such thing as hate speech

As to your question, I see a difference between honoring a culture and appropriating a culture. And it's difficult to define the difference. And people will disagree on particular instances.
I would call this kosher, but I'm a white guy from N Carolina. It isn't my call to make.
But it's easily apparent that Ren loves all kinds of music. And it's always said that music transcends language. I don't see this as being fundamentally any different.
Are we just going to ban all white people from performing reggae? If a white guy sings reggae, is it okay to mimic the accent? Would it be less okay if he didn't get the accent right?
Should a black guy with no cultural ties to Jamaica be granted more "reggae privileges?"
Should rock or classic rock stations be discouraged from playing it? How far do you take this?

  • @Onnabote
    @Onnabote ปีที่แล้ว

Honestly, I think he's more influenced by The Police the way he swings more towards that British pop reggae. So if anyone wants to call cultural appropriation, Ren is just borrowing it cause Sting wasn't using it, anymore.

Is THAT what WOKE is about?? I've been trying to figure it out. I guess I would have to say I don't fall in line with it then. No group should have a right to "own" a cultural thing. That's just silly.
You on the other hand are so adorable with your reaction. There you are lip- and body-synching just like me. I guess we "woke" up together to this song?

We grew up with Reggae and ska , I'd be surprised if a Musical Genius from Britain couldn't.

It’s not cultural appreciation it’s a British dude loving bob marley and appreciating him. Reggae and ska is popular and well known and appreciated all over Britain. He doses covers of Ozzy and Sting equally they would not be offended either. He did a video of a song from the Verve whose guitarist loved it so much he has just sent him a guitar.
It’s appreciation. It’s not a thing in Britain where the races are much more culturally integrated with little difference in housing , often living next door together.
To my next announcement I lived next door to Bob Marley in my youth when he was in Nottinghill. Knew him well used to go to several of his concerts my friend went out with a mate of his. He would absolutely love ❤️ this cover and know it came from a place,of love.

I shot the Sherif is not Hip Hop. It's Reggae. I don't think ren can be put in a Box. I think he does incredible rap. He does long form storytelling like Queen. Andy does reggae and all kinds of other stuff hes amazing but I would not put this young man in a Box no way
