    Bit of info here:
    the "Green Moonstone" is the commercial name of Garnierite,
    The "White Turquoise" is a Howlite, and Howlite are often dyied in blue to replicate the appearance of Turquoises (and sadly they're often sold under the name of Turquoise, but they're definitively not turquoises)
    The white parts of Amethyst are indeed Clear Quartz but Amethysts ARE Quartz, they are from the family of quartz, they're basicaly purple quartz. Just like Citrines are also Quartz, yellow quartz
    The Leopard Jasper is actually a Dalmatian Jasper.. They put the wrong name..
    The Magnifying Glass moment was so funny xD

    • @MMDbuddy

      Yooo !! THIS INFO IS SO COOL!

    • @indaliah9137
      @indaliah9137 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Also, the green moonstone looks a little suspicious to me. It could be the camera, but the green doesn't look natural to me. Not sure why, but my gut is telling me that's something else (probably dyed).

    • @katrinawinchell614
      @katrinawinchell614 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I agree with you, but also it depends on location. I have seen leopard jasper used interchangeably with Dalmatian jasper many times. I also hate howlite being called white turquoise (or being dyed blue and sold as turquoise especially) and calling garnierite "green moonstone" but again I have seen both names used in different sources.
      And while amethyst and citrine do fall under quartz, they are nearly always sub-defined as their own gemstone.

      This is information that is more in line with the expectations the calender gives. It teaches you more about it and what to look out for when buying these things on your own.

    I will say the National Geographic Gemstone Advent Calendar is great for kids and adults who want more of a STEM learning advent. There is also National Geographic Rock, Mineral, & Fossil Advent Calendar which is also great.

      I was going to also suggest the Nat/Geo one for more STEM learning. NG can always be depended on having a more scientific leaning purpose. It's one of my favorite channels to watch. I like the more spiritual rock stuff too, so would not be disappointed either way.

    • @HayleysCreations18

    this box is very interesting but i really miss the days where people didn't just associate geology with pseudoscience. some people get a bad rep from rock collecting when it has been around for centuries. not everyone who is collecting rocks are doing it for "spiritual growth". should definitely not be advertised as a STEAM item

    • @marshawargo7238
      @marshawargo7238 ปีที่แล้ว +70

      I don't see why they couldn't have put TWO info sheets in the box for both reasons!!! How Hard would it have been??? Everyone's Happy! The way they did it could be considered false advertising😢

      I would MUCH rather have the calendar tell me more about where the rock is found, the process that makes it, and info about it, and then maybe any sort of spiritual thing is fine, but every item I'm like, "Oh where is that rock from?" and then the guide gives me no info about it.

    Definitely agree with you that it's bizarre that the spiritual meanings of the crystals are included and not geological facts when it's promoted as a STEAM learning calendar. I'm into crystal meanings, but I'm not on board with this calendar having them without explicitly saying it will. I feel bad especially for any kids who are into geology who get this calendar and don't end up getting to learn about the geology of the rocks

  • @jackie8357
    @jackie8357 ปีที่แล้ว +18

    Thank you for noting how this was sold - I was going to get this for a child as a more informational calendar before you reviewed it (so glad I saw your review beforehand!)- I wish they would change the sales description/ packaging to match the theming

  • @ZChantie
    @ZChantie ปีที่แล้ว +30

    I am actually really glad I watched this to learn it's not a geology based calendar. I was initially going to buy two kits for my nephews who are really into rocks right now. But it's a hard pass with the included "fact" card. I'd enjoy it for myself, but not something I'd want to send when they're legitimately trying to learn about gems. So thanks Cherry for doing this calendar!

    • @cyndaquillover5975
      @cyndaquillover5975 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree, being a scientific advent calendar WHAT THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE (@SoulMoonsRising) is described where these stones are mined, how they form and how long it takes and what materials sometimes mix to create these. And sometimes if some are easier to tumble than others would be interesting.

    I already commented on this pretty advent calendar, but had an idea for next year. You should make an "Advent Calendar Advent Calendar" and fill it with all of the advent calendars you are unboxing and open one each day. You could use a book case as the base and then make doors with cardboard outlines filled in with wrapping paper that you could punch through. Just an idea, lol. Love your content.

    I remember as a kid I had this huge box full of stones and crystals with information about them on there. As the whole spiritual thing wasn't really talked about back then, it had the science-facts on there. So it's definitely do-able and when they advertise it as such, they should add such facts and maybe some little spiritual facts if they really have to...

  • @TheTinyDancer
    @TheTinyDancer ปีที่แล้ว +8

    It definitely felt like the messaging was a bit squiff - there wasn’t much science content. They could have led with more “this rock comes from/is formed by…” type content, and then had a line at the end with the core associations. It felt a bit like they gave some stones ALL the powers too… ☺️ But the stones are fascinating to stare at 🤩 Great video, Cherry - this advent series is truly joyful 💛

    I found the box you ordered and read the description (I usually read the entire listing when I buy something) It advertises as everything it can in the title (educational, etc.), but it also clearly mentions “witchy woo” type suggestions in the description.
    I looked through about a dozen different brands, and most of them get into the mystical in some aspect, so make sure you read every detail in the listings too if you’d rather not have that aspect in the box. Some are pretty blatant about it, with black boxes and chakras, and some are very scientific looking.

    Old disabled house bound dusty rusty rockhound here: Greetings from Michigan, U.S.A.! I don't know how this channel crossed my path... maybe it's because my usual haunts are rock, gem, and lapidary channels. I Love ❤️ This Idea! I'm all for products to inspire young pebble pups to grow in the rockhound hobbies, gemology and geology professions, and the healing arts.
    💎🪨 (I remember my first rock collection. Starting at age 3, I collected interesting rocks from a gravel pile... kept on my bedroom dresser. When it got too big, my parents would sneak it back out to the pile. My rock and crystal obsession grew into a lifetime of scientific hobbies and professions. I've experienced a great life, partly because of early exposure to earth's magnificence through rocks and minerals. 😊)

Meditation helps kids with mindfulness which helps them cope with stressful situations, regulate emotions, and sharpen their focus. Those benefits are for adults as well.

    Hello Cherry, as an long time practitioner who uses crystals in my practice I have to wonder about the authenticity and source of these crystals. Not everything is as it looks. I've never seen as money authentic crystals of this type for such a low price; especially when you think about how many crystals the company is sending out all over the country/world. I'm not trying to be a party pooper, I just have been using crystals for many, many years and have studied them quite extensively. I have been 'dooped' in the past. After this I decided to take many courses and study with reputable suppliers/teachers. On the fantastic side, I love, love, love your channel and content. You have a very magnetic personality :) I don't often leave a comment but could not pass on it this time. I really enjoy your Advent Calendar series. Happy Holidays! x

We went to one together (because I also like crystals and gems ) and we each have half of a geode. I have some Helenite- formed from my Saint Helen’s ash, amethyst bracelet, lapis lazuli bracelet, polished moonstone. I have some other gems, rocks, fossils in another bag. I bought a book on crystal/gemstone meanings and such. I was also very good a geology in school.

    Sodalite is the stone of Sagittarius, which I am, but I can barely work with that stone because it is SO high energy that it feels like chaos to me. It feels like it's vibrating!
    PS: "witchy woo" = metaphysical. :)
    PSS - as someone who has collected and worked with crystals for literally decades now, I would say that value-wise this calendar comes out to about current retail pricing. If you buy your rocks at a rock shop (NOT one playing in the metaphysical realm but just straight rocks/fossils) all of these stones are seriously like 25 cents. But not too many real rock shops exist anymore. They have all been replaced with the higher pay out metaphysical stores.

    I’m inordinately excited for this!
    I love crystals, for both the fact based reasons and maybe a bit witchy woo stuff too. I collect rocks, fossils and crystals because how cool is it that nature makes that but I also adore lore and symbolism ascribed to things by humans, I think it’s fascinating.
    (I view the symbolism attached to crystals in a similar way to how I view floriography, the language of flowers, I just think it’s interesting how people ascribe meaning to things and it’s cool how you can maybe say something or symbolize something with a natural object. I don’t go further than say how a penny found on the ground or a four leaf clover is considered lucky where I am if that makes sense)

    The company making them should have put in info cards on geology and geography of locations and areas they are found like caves or even and interactive website so you can learn more about them or add a book with it all in attached to the back or being door no 24

    I love seeing you opening these boxes but I did missed the moment where you show all the items at the end... or maybe it is just me as was really excited about seeing them all out : )

    I like that you get the elastic because it can then make it into any size bracelet/anklet that you want and who knows maybe have some to make a ring too! Lol Great calendar and super cute!

    If you are interested into the science and you happened to be in London go to the Natural History museum. They have a laaaarge mineralogy collection that ks stunning and you will learn a LOT of stuff 👌

    I agree...if it was sold as a STEAM activity, then it was misrepresented. I have a small collection of crystals myself. I picked up a set of 8 (I think) a few years ago for five dollars. I put a few of them in a mesh bag to hang around my neck. The bag failed rather quickly. I even sewed up the rip, but it just ripped in another spot.

    Well the whole "educational" could be missunderstood but.. I did learn about the healing and energetic properties of the rocks. Did I learn about how the rocks were formed and such.. no so it is educational, maybe not in the sense you expected it to be. Big fan in Mexico, love all your videos and the advent calendar series are my favorites!

    The rocks are cool and I like the stuff that they told us about the "witchy" stuff but I thought like you that we would be learning about the crystals and where they come from.

    I actually have a Citrine Bud crystal. The one I have is white with a dark-ish amber-orange color and it's absolutely gorgeous.

    Amethysts come in chevron and Amethysts Sage. The sage has Citrine in it. Wish the box included the African Bloodstone . Bloodstone has variety of green with strong color red mixed in. It's the Aries birthstone.

    Totally agree with you I think the National Geographic advent is more appropriate education wise… but this one does have beautiful stones

    day 12's rock is actually Pumice. it is a volcanic stone but basalt is what hardened laval becomes and pumice is what happens if lava goes into the ocean. it's pretty light cause it is full of air and it should float. and i'm pretty sure due to the honeycomb of bubbles in it it's actually pretty fragile for a rock i mean.

    Loved this calendar, but you’re right it’s supposed to be educational, and it was more spiritual. Loved the rainbow one and the amethyst.

    9:47 Girlie you gotta put the intention behind it! Without intention and purpose, it's just a pretty rock. Sit with it, meditate, vibe with it, put your energy into it. It's kind of like giving it instructions and your own energy.
    Weird advent calendar lmao like you said hahah, it's almost like they had two advent calendars, one for STEM learning and one for spiritualism and they printed the wrong sheet on the flap!

    I loved this one! I have collected stones since I was small. My parents didn't get a lot of exersice, if they took me with them on a walk, because I always had to stop for a stone. 🤣😂
    You were so funny in this video! 🤣😍😘 Lots of love from Iceland.

    Lava stone is also called pumice. It floats in water until it gets water logged and then it will sink.
