      Thanks man! Yeah downswings are definitely a bummer, but I think they're important to show, to keep the honesty of the videos/channel. As much as I'd love to say I never lose, that's simply not the case. But thank you! I've already been able to recover fully from the downswing, but the vlog hasn't caught up to real life yet :D

    Keep grinding, Imo, I think you play really solid poker. Just wanted to comment on the 97cc hand, if you had not already done the math. Your 14 outs has the exact equity needed to call a 240 bet into 275. (31.78% needed vs 31.82%). Let’s say you have 76cc, (fd + gutshot, 12 outs) you wouldn’t be getting the right price by ~4%. This only applies if opponent doesn’t call any bet on river when flush comes in, right. I love your mention that if u just have fd you would fold, knowing most good opponents can find folds with one pair there on river when flush hits. Shows you have very good understanding of pot odds in your head when playing live. Keep up the good play.

    On the 77 vs A8 hand, maybe that guy was a nit afraid to bet for value, he put you on a missed draw that wasn’t going to pay anything off, or you gave some kind of tell/vibe that you loved the river and were waiting to pounce
    Also on the last hand the guy may be spewy but you had been seen checking monster hands OOP looking to X/R and both times they didn’t fall for it. So if you’re prone to do that he will take a free card if he misses and bet when he makes the nuts.

    Here’s a downswing related question. Let’s say you are up a buy-in, ie. ~800, do you call it a night shortly after, thinking “Alright, let’s get a victory. Build up the momentum and confidence for the next session to climb our way back”? Or do you stay to look for the “home run” because you are so deep in the hole and, of course, could risk losing it all with a cooler?

    • @BrantzenPoker
      @BrantzenPoker  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question: I’ve done both. In borderline spots where the game isn’t great, but isn’t bad, I might just call it a night to build confidence and book the W. But I try to stay as long as the game is good, and leave when I’m more surrounded by tough players

    On the 77 hand, you had 2nd nuts with it being extremely unlikely opp had 1st nuts (quads). Always jam the effective nuts on the river. You jam the nuts on river it looks like a bluff or a weaker kicker. The session ends up differently. It’s always that ONE play per session, good or bad.

    • @BrantzenPoker
      @BrantzenPoker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the input - I didn’t quite have the 2nd nuts, (behind 88, 78, 68, and 28, though I don’t assume he’d play 28)
      In general, I didn’t think his range contained many 8s from that position; I actually thought a bluff was more likely than value. I wanted to give him the chance to bluff for a third barrel if he had nothing, and I figured if he DID have an 8, he would bet it. I think the only 8s he’d typically have opening from that position was 2 combos of A8s, 89s, and maybe 8Ts.

    Imo, i think the KQ is an overplay there. Considering your opponents ranges you have too at least put him on made hands 77s, A10, 910, JJ (he did limp flat 75), As far as what he could be bluffing with the only bluffs in that range are only 89suited, KJ, K10suited, You have a blocker too the Q so im just assuming your not putting him on a Q, given QJ would raise it on the flop, but yeah if your assuming that your opponents just willing too rip it in on the turn with nothing but a flush draw then i dunno. He bet out 400 basically implying he has a strong hand but he was actually just trying too block the flush draw. That's definately a very tough spot in poker. I actually always check that turn card once the draw hits especially given the flop was seen by 2 opponents. Your equity on the turn given those ranges is only about 30% if your putting your opponent on real hands. However if the guys just a bluffing maniac then ya i could see it as a profitable call. I've learned too always just check in that spot given how deep the stacks were. Again this is my opinion though. Variance is brutal in NL. I play 5/5

    • @BrantzenPoker
      @BrantzenPoker  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your insight - it was a tough spot overall, however I think this opponent will have a ton more semibluff/weaker hands than the ones you mentioned. It’s tough though making the call, because on the river you’ll most likely face a jam anyways, in which you’ll be in another tough spot

    On the A8 vs 77 hand, he checked back because only the winner will call/raise. A busted flush/straight draw folds. So there’s no value in betting. I’ve seen you do the same. It’s a good play.
    15 years ago, shoves or big bets on the turn and river were for value. So people started raising huge on the turn and river as a bluff. So now poelle are going back t9 shoving the river to get value when people think it’s a bluff. That’s why so many players just check back the river. Just put out a huge value bet out on the river. Guarantee that worse will call.

    • @BrantzenPoker

      @@BrantzenPoker yeah, Doug Polk did a great breakdown a while back of calling ranges in tough river spots when a scare card hits and our opponent who plays a balanced range shoves. It basically boiled down to: set or better, call. It guards us from getting over bluffed and also paying off nutted hands. Interestingly enough, that was Dan Sklansky’s advice in one of his 2+2 books on low-stakes NL. 🤣🤣🤣 Solid play is solid for a reason: it never goes out of fashion. Stay frosty, I’ll see you at the Gardens!

    I apologize ahead of time. I didn't see any downswing I saw a bad playing this session brother. Watch the session from the outside. You made some bad decisions. Like we ALL do. I'm a regular 2/5 5/10 player. You're a great player you'll get it together

      @BrantzenPoker  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks - I don’t take any offense, especially because of your wording. I definitely don’t make all the right decisions, despite always trying to. But yeah, personally, I don’t think my playing was too bad this session, but clearly results wise I made the wrong decision many times.
      I didn’t show this episode because I thought it highlights my “A” game. I showed it because it’s a representation of how a downswing can feel (and cuz it’s just honest to show when you lose, play bad, run bad, etc)
      I think down swings can be caused by many things. It doesn’t necessarily just mean you got coolered non stop in your A+ game. A lot of times, your mental game gets thrown off causing you to bring your A-, or B game to the table, subconsciously, and causing you to lose more. That was more the point I was trying to get across in this video
