The closest comparison I can draw for Rampage is Jamie Gold, on a bit smaller scale. The guy arguably has some skills. Got lucky to win the biggest (wsop) tournament of his life and thought he was on top of the world. Remember seeing Jamie quickly jumped onto high stake pokers playing for millions with guys like Ivey, Negreanu and Doyle Brunson where he punted off his fortune? Where is Jamie Gold now? Last I saw him playing 5-10 at the Commerce. Rampage will likely follow suit.

What happens with Rampage is that he has only played poker for around a couple of years now and runs insanely well. I believe he is a good player, with no hate against the guy, but he is inexperienced in variance. Poker sometimes is a tricky game. Maybe you're playing terribly and end up winning a tournament or two. The game makes you think you are great, but in reality, you just won multiple flips in a tournament, and boom, you win. He is playing too high. Those nosebleed stakes are terrible for the bankroll, no matter how good you're. He played a very maniacal style; eventually, he would get hit. I hope he came back. He is talented and will be successful with hard work and dedication.

His play against the 84 hand was very good. A guy calling 84 in that spot is calling with 85 87 98 57 97 A9 etc. He folds all those hands so it was a plus EV play. It just so happened he was against 84.

It can be very dangerous for gambling addicts if they are not aware of their condition and are not actively suppressing it when they play, especially if they are playing above their bankroll.

He’s clearly a good player but he has to learn how to deal with the bad side of variance because that ultimately is what makes or breaks a player. But this guy would crush lower level stakes and if he learns how to deal with tilt he could win at these levels as well.
What streams are you watching where you say he's clearly a good player? He is a punter. He's been a hunter his whole career. He's done better at tournaments because he can lay reg and go super high variance and he's won several off of the sheer volume of how many he has entered. And he has had some big nights on HCL stream. But that doesn't make him a good player. If I had a dollar every time I heard him say something along the lines of "I'm here to gamble" and then a call with some weak ass cards I would have enough money to play on these streams. He has no patience he has no discipline. He's just not a good poker player. I don't think he would actually crush the lower Stakes
He is an extremely extremely poor and undisciplined player compared to the stakes he plays or anything above 5/5 really and I say this as a fan of him and someone who thinks his content is great and that he seems as an amazing, honest and down to earth guy. Rampage's problem is that he developed a bad habit early on and that's not giving up on pots and thinking everyone is scared to gamble. He punts off huge money and when it was smaller stakes it worked cause business people, vacationers, rich kids and others play scared. They couldn't stomach losing $5k on a single hand and didn't have enough game knowledge to know if the huge river bet/jam makes sense or not so they'd often fold the better hand. You go back and watch his lower stakes blogs he got a lot of players to fold to a big river bet and he thinks that works against high stakes players and it just doesn't. Now he's playing against people with as much or more game knowledge than him, have way more money and aren't scared to gamble it. It makes the "put him to the test" stuff a lot less likely to work. He had a period where he did well at those stakes and seemed to get away from those bad habits but now it's back in full force and he's just not going to succeed at the high stakes if he doesn't completely fix that part of his game.

You could put all of Rampage's assets in a pile, and there'd be guys on those streams who have three or four more ZEROES, just in their poker bankroll, and they're not afraid to lose it. You're not going to bluff them off a pot more than once.
@@gregoryschmidt1233 Exactly. These aren't vacationers, businessmen, sons of millionaires and the other kinds of people Rampage was used to bluffing against that would almost always fold. They had very little game knowledge to know when a bluff does or doesn't make sense and those kinds of people were scared to lose $5k to a bad call so they'd just auto-fold. Rampage still has that terrible habit and it doesn't work whatsoever against these high stakes guys.

First of all the hand he was supposedly bluffing against the chunky lawyer type was him misreading his hand, go back and look at his face. Second, rampage got to move up so rapidly because youtube and merch sales allowed it, then he got lucky, he barely has 1 3 skills. And like airball, mass TV appearances give actual good players the reads they need to shred him.
Absolutely not. If you understand anything about ranges and can project out the type of hands the lawyer has there in that spot it was a super EV play. If he took that long to fold 84 he’s probably even folding A9 which makes it even a better play.

I went through this couple months ago. I kept winning at $1/3. Running hot making +$300 each 7/10 sessions... I started to "tilt win" I was playing EVERY shit hand possible, bluffing and getting called, calling bad all-ins. Giving back all profit earned. I almost forgot about pre-flop ranges and sticking to solid poker.... It felt horrible, I had to change my strategy and remember to be humble in poker, variance will get you.

Not really Matt. Rampage was literally a 1-3 player 2 years ago. Good luck and scaring people off hands is what got him to where he is now. Now the variance is reversed and he’s still playing the same style he did at 1-3, thinking people are gonna be scared of his big bets, which clearly they aren’t at those stakes.

Honestly after hitting the poker masters for 900k he's been off and running. The kid is better than a 1/2 player, he is a good player however, I just don't think he spent enough time in the 5/10 or 10/20 streets. Everybody at that HCL table has a bigger net worth, they can absorb the losses. He could play the 10/20 10k buyin max pain Mondays and try to build from there and not have this worry. Remember a million dollar downswing on HCL's big game on Fridays is just 10 buyins of 100k. So what he's down at those stakes is just a blip, just ask Airball who was just claiming he's down 8 million not too long ago and clearly he's changed his play it's affected him.

@DSR505 He already destroyed his 1/3 go check his early vlogs. He also crushed 2/5 that's how he got invited to play on HCL. However he basically jumped from 2/5 to HCL and he binked two tourneys. He got a WSOP circuit ring and a few months later got the 900k score from the Poker Masters. Neither he or Mariano grinded 5/10 or 10/20 like Brad Owen or Andrew Neemee. That HCL game is soft as hell, Airball makes sure of it so I don't blame them for trying.

Both these guys went from grinding 2/5 5/10 to 50/100 conveniently after they started shilling for the GG app for games that are raked and an absurd amount basically using there audience as an ATM. Also met both in person in Vegas last summer and both were total assholes. Mariano treated me like I was cancer when i was standing behind him in a cash out line after I told him how much I liked his vlogs. Rampage acted like a petulant child when I busted him in a WSOP event. Both had a moment of sun run but terrible play cant be overcome.

Even watching this short clip compilation it is blatantly obvious that Greg is a loose-passive rec player, so I am not sure why Rampage felt the need to run a huge bluff against him on a board that barely changed...or failed to give him credit when he took the betting lead.

When Rampage doesn’t bet the rivered straight he needed to adjust by realizing everyone is going to discount his aggression and therefore needs to not bluff.
For a guy who tries to win ever pot he sure does check way too many good hands.
Rampage is the guy that runs hot, makes a bunch, but he never seems to understand that everyone has seen his moves. He just keeps punting off when he isn't running hot. A 4 month cold streak isn't unusual. The difference is most folks slow down, or even reduce the stakes. Not Rampage, He just tries to bluff, and bluff.

I had commented on Rampage's channel that he needed a break after running so wickedly hot during his rise. He didn't listen and now he's actualizing the fate of being on "winning tilt" (It could be a thing). Last night he played well on HCL with a $278K win and his play was much better. Perhaps winners running hot should interview players who have run cold as a measure to moderate winners tilt prior to jumping back into a game. Navigating ego is challenging but to dismiss it is costly.
Rampage ran super hot for a year and half. He’s a great player but that was a huge part of his success. Now he’s now running well and pushing / chasing throwing up prayers.

Rampage goes to the same driving range I do and always see him pull up in his Tesla. I’ve said hi a few times, and often I’ve wanted to be like “dude, just quit and pivot to a golf channel or something. You’re known. Golf channels are big right now. You can make income as a TH-camr doing something where you lose no money.” But then it’s not my place. It’s degenerate behavior he’ll have to figure out on his own.

I'd hate to see him go busto or living on credit just to play poker. He made a video asking what kind of content people would like to see, and I told him "Golf!" Look at the explosion of golf channels recently. They're cheap to produce and the overhead is basically travel. Plus, he could still gamble on the course! Win/Win if he needs the rush.

rampage is one of the lucky ones of the modern TV/internet era, chosen for his appeal to the masses and will reap the benefits of rigged online games to rebuild his bankroll from any number of sites, from the WSOP to GG Poker to any number of "silent" backers that will put him in the big games again faster than you can say "raise".
If it wasnt for the WSOP, Poker Stars, GG Poker, Full Tilt and all the other scam sites, Negreanu would be living in the Siegel Suites off the Strip, asking for backers to the ME.

Naturally his big failed bluffs will draw the most attention but that's an integral part of Rampage's game. Sometimes it works and it's always in the background helping him get action when he's got a hand. It was the bad calls that really show how messed up his rhythm is right now. Rampage gave away over $22K on the questionable river payoffs with AJ, K9 and KT. The river check with TT was bad too but maybe Pepe doesn't pay him off.
Announcing a straight is pretty bush league by Rampage. Especially with Greg being so overweight, the added stress probably took a couple months off his life span 😂

Honestly this is so relatable…maybe not the higher stakes but this is exactly how I’ve felt at 5/10.
After playing professionally for 15 years, it’s become clear that it’s not the winning that separates players, it’s the losing. The best losers are the biggest lifetime winners. You’ve got to stay composed, mitigate risk, and find a way to lose with grace. Going through massive downswings, especially when you’re a great player, gives you a much greater opportunity than winning ever does, it exposes you at your worst and everyone is watching…
People should really lay off Rampage. He has a ton of heart and makes enjoyable content and does not sugarcoat his issues. Unfortunately he has a gambling problem and needs to take a step back and stop playing in such large games or he will go completely broke. Because he is now so well known in the poker community stepping out of the spotlight will be hard for him as these games will all be asking him to play.
It's just a short stretch of bad luck. Keep grinding, he will bounce back before he knows it. It ain't over 'til it's over.

Why is it a snap call when Greg has trips? If Rampage had 9s full then people would say how its an easy fold because Greg had a diamond blocker to possible flush draw bluffs and it was a near double pot bet on river.
Last year I’ve won $25,000 as an average guy. That was thanks to rampage and his vlogs. His videos taught me how to break down hand and how to read people. Ive watched hundreds of hours of his videos. The mistake he made in his career for this downfall was him getting into the games bigger than he can afford. Clearly put himself in a tough situation, and emotions got the worst out of him. Should have just stuck to 1/3, 5/5, in that range and could of kept compounding his profits

It's easy to pile on a so-called pro who starts losing massively, but Jesus, some of these plays would be bad from an amateur playing $1-3 NL. The K-10 offsuit hand was just horrendous. First off, it's a hand you really ought to just fold preflop. But on that river...you can't beat anything. Yes, you're getting almost 5-1 on your money, but so what? YOU CAN'T BEAT ANYTHING. Then there's the bankroll management. A good player doesn't risk more than 10% of his bankroll in a given session. Rampage by his own admission is risking 50-100%. It's literally impossible to win longterm playing this way, because even if you somehow manage to play perfectly, sooner than later you'll take a horrible beat or cooler.

Sad to see this because he seems like a nice guy thats had rapid success and fame go to his head clouding his judgement. Its likely that WSOP braclet in that online event made him think that hes better than he really is. He got a massive boost to his bankroll and ran super hot when he took massive shots but it seems as if he didnt really think about the longrun. Hes quite clearly became horrible at bankroll management once he got a taste of easy big money and is clearly displaying signs of what likely is gambling addiction. Speaking as someone who have and know many with the same kind of mindset in regards to money in gambling situations. He should take a break to reset his mind from this destructive behaviour.

When it comes to big cash games against actually decent players he can’t profit huge because his plays aren’t smart enough and when the deck doesn’t run his way he doesn’t know how to play the players properly.
The risks of high stakes is that even running bad can be crippling.

3:05 rampage calls which is completely ok? Are you off your marbles? Greg just has a flush or a slow played 9 pretty much 99% of the time. This is a horrible horrible pay off. Greg is never betting this size with worse. The k9 payoff was horrible too
The total transparency about his problems with the high of gambling is refreshing. The poker community is rarely honest about the problems with chasing the high like a drug addict.

If I ever got in the position to have a million dollar downswing (I'm not good enough at the game to actually win that much), I'd have quit or at least gone back to low stakes before it could happen. What is the point in risking everything when you already have all the money you will ever need?
What Rampage wrote was the closest I've seen him come to actually saying what's wrong, but still can't say the words...compulsive gambler or just plain addict. Going over his hands and critiquing his play is only looking at the symptoms and unfortunately most in the comments I've seen in the past and even comments from other creators don't want to even say those words and keep encouraging him that it'll get better. It's really sad to witness.

There's something very fishy about him, two weeks ago when he lost he was talking about how he might have to go and play lower limits and he said that he needs to digest that big loss. A week later he comes back and he buys in for a tremendous amount, I have a feeling like he's been scamming some of his backers because where did all the money suddenly come from when he was supposedly on an extreme downswing
he is one of the chosen ones for the TV/internet era and will have every online site ready and willing to give him rigged games to play online, money to go play live events like this until the cows come home. If you didnt think the auto shufflers didnt rig hands, think again.
@@id10t98 I know a lot of the streamers are playing for fake money and even those Vegas couple, I think they're called casino action, they ran a big scam and after everybody subscribe to them now they're playing for Penny's slots and people actually are paying a monthly subscription thinking that it was supposed to be a high limit channel. The only thing with this guy is that literally a week ago he was talking about how he played with his whole bankroll and it seemed a little bit weird that everything is just kind of cleaned up and back to normal.

@@T-roc57 Ya but honestly thats just online being rigged... the site knows when you are playing too high of stakes and they know if they put you on a good stretch of run bad it will take most of your roll and then you can deposit again.... Im not even just being a complainer its just facts ive tried it a bunch of times and you always start running really poorly if you play too high of stakes for your roll
I followed him a bit and he lost his hunger. He was great but if you don’t feel to fight over every chip you should not start at a high stakes game unless you are a billionaire.

Why you have to do that to Rampunts
Rampage doesn't know it but he's a lucky boy. He has his health, his youth and good looks. He has life by the butt. Tuck in your tail young man and take time to learn what older people/players already know. Learn before trying to earn.
Poker is a brutal game as we all know. Playing against guys/gals with more experience, a bigger roll and more discipline is a losing proposition. Luck doesn't help long term. The need for a rush is poker kryptonite. Bluffing is essential but only occasionally so as to vary your play. Bluffing too often is your opponent's best friend.
Every time you sit down there are players at the table with a larger roll, more experience and better discipline. You're at a disadvantage from the word go, a huge disadvantage if most/all of them have these advantages over you. Find your level and be satisfied. Rampage is still 'wet behind the ears', he has nothing but time to learn and to advance into bigger games if that's 'in the cards' for him. Relax Rampage, learn self-control, play at a lower level or exit from the game before the inevitable rock bottom.
