It's unlocked me to start trying to grow food for my family and years later now I'm trying to help spread the word because I love it so much. So glad you can keep going, and I'm excited to see what else the future brings! (Finally finished the whole vid ♥️)

    Thank you for sharing your story. We started hydroponics on a really small scale with my husband while living with my parents. After falling out with them and moving out, we didn't have a chance to do it again. We are finally in a rental place and we finally have enough backyard space to do it again. My husband and I are watching your videos as they are informative and simple to understand. We would love to support you financially but unfortunately, we are financially tight right now because of our IVF treatment. We support you by watching your videos and sharing them.

    You have opened up gardening to me again after 4 yrs in a an apartment with no yard. I have missed gardening so much, and you have given it back to me.
    And now my grandchildren, who used to water my tomatoes and all my flowers for me, are shown that growing isn't limited to outside! They are so excited to pop over to see how big plants have got, to see if the snap peas and cherry tomatoes have some ready to pick and eat.
    And I've realized that I even have a large hall closet that would be perfect for a large grow light and more tomatoes -- tied up to the bar that one should hang coats on! And its even stealth if I needed it to be, as the landlord isn't going to open the closet door!
    You make mistakes, You're human. You trashed a whole set of tomato plants in a grow tent but grew lots of mold... did you hide that? No, you showed us it all -- even you disinfecting the tent!. You keep trying, keep evolving, and you're always looking for ways to help us plant cheaper and grow cheaper. I'm buying pool noodles this year!
    thank you for all you do, and you finally look less worried, less on edge. I have worried about you and so very happy to see you strong and assured again! (and so very happy you will now keep your place!)

I almost don't want to tell you this on a public forum, but maybe it will be some solace to others. Gardening provides some relief to the PTSD I suffer from and by following the ideas and concepts you bring to me through your channel hopefully will allow me to grow year round. This time (Winter Time in the States), is always the roughest time of the year for me. Keep up the great work! You are appreciated!

    Your pH will always be an issue until your balance your EC for your location.
    EC 2.4 may be good for your winter, but in summer lower it, maybe 2. Anyway play around with the EC, the hotter it is, the more you lower it.
    On the topic of topping up. I kept a min level of nutrient with a float valve, and use a NPK solution.
    i.e Use monopotassium phosphate (MKP) and potassium nitrate (KNO3). Stock solution 200g salt to made 1L and use something like 0.3ml of MKP and 1.9ml of KNO3 per L.

    Some more questions popping up, hope you don't mind 🤣
    Is there a reason why you don't use white/ light reflecting buckets/ paint them in the kratky system as you did in other projects?
    How do you feel about sheep wool instead of cotton? (which can be problematic for the environment because of pesticide and water use)
    Definitely have to have a look at your older videos😍 all the best for you and your family ☺️

  • @MattGarver
    @MattGarver ปีที่แล้ว

    When you figure out that rodent exclusion method, I will be curious. Have you thought about taking cuttings from your Kratky tomatoes to root and start another set of tomatoes growing? Also, if curious Bernie Kratky experienced some pH drop over the season with some nutrients. I believe he found Chem Gro was more pH stable.

  • @jupe2369

    Only just found your channel and I'm thrilled. Great content and advice. As to your rodent issues, have you tried to spray your tomatoes with jalapeno solution as they aren't being eaten? The donation to the GoFundMe was the most inexpensive R&D ever. Finding out if a particular system idea would work might take an entire season with some plants. Check a few YTs here and one can find the success or failure in short order. The ground based system being an example.

    Ever think that maybe you could do an elevated reservoir for the NFT that would take a long while to drain with a sump of the same volume? As an alternative to a battery backup. Downside is needing double the reservoir, upside is not using battery backup or media.

    Thanks Hoocho. In regards to the strawberries, if it’s any help I tried 3 different types bags. White didn’t help. Anyway I tried black, black with white coving, white hello fresh freezer bag. Only 3 out of 10ish plants made it but still sad (all in freezer bag) but had few mid 30c days I’m a row, few weeks after planting. So didn’t get that much luck with the weather. But looked interesting so figured I would try it as well :)

  • @mattlewandowski73
    @mattlewandowski73 ปีที่แล้ว

    For your warping 3d prints, I did not hear you mention what filament type you used. I have been researching filament types for automotive accessories. From best to worst based on what I have been able to find out (including some videos where side by side tests were done of test bridges on the dash of a car) Nylon, PETG or ASA/ABS (ABS handled slightly more heat, PETG was superior in most other respects including east of printing, but it CAN be hygroscopic, thus may theoretically have issues with hydroponics, I won't get to test ASA vs PETG in hydroponics til spring here in the states. For several reasons I prefer ASA over ABS including toxicity during printing as I do not have an enclosure vented outdoors yet, and ease of printing), and absolute last place was PLA variants, as they tend to print and warp under low temperatures, and black pla is going to be even worse as it will soak up heat from the sun.
    For the record, I am new to 3d printing. My interest has been focused on camping gear and automotive parts and accessories at this point, but I plan on expanding into a lot of different aspects of other aspects of my life and hobbies including building a couple hydroponic systems this spring. (Strawberry towers, tomato buckets, and NFT salad greens this year, expanding into more down the road) as well as accessories for raised bed gardening.

      Don’t think that helps, least hasn’t with mine. Did 3 different bags, black, black with white coving, white hello fresh freezer bag. Only 3 out of 10ish plants made it (all in freezer bag) but had mid 30c days few weeks after planting. So was probably poor timing on my behalf. But looked interesting so figured I would try it as well :)

      @@Len02013 Bummer, I have to deal with the snow side and less the hot side. I wish some of you guys the best of luck and sorry I can't try to help test and design heat tolerant systems!

    It's so surprising to me that the plants raise up during the night and droop during the day.

    hahaha another solution for ya bro. set up a hot wire get the red and white electric fence line add some surveyors tape every so often so its noticeable, turn it on and the dogs will veryyyy quickly associate that tape with a shock then ya dont even need the power running just set up the line with the tape on it where ever ya wnt and they wont go near it... great for open dump rubbish pits too haha
