Video idea for you. Test which of the monarchy or the initiative is better by playing a set of mirror matches where one player starts with monarchy and one starts with initiative.
@MCTimemaster unfortunately most people already know the answer to this 😅 there is a reason initiative cards are banned in most formats they are legal but monarch is still fine
Congrats to Toffel to pulling this off! A few misplays but I mean, look at the handicap Toffel had: - Playing four different decks. - Not allowed to see the board state, or even really ask about it. - Not allowed to get back life totals - If he casts with no legal target, the spell doesn't unwind, but it fails instead. ... And his opponents all being on the same deck is a mixed blessing, because even though he has less individual cards to remember, he has to remember which board state belongs to which opponent. Good job Toffel and great video CardMarket!
Honestly, I think 4 of the same MU would've been much harder than being on 4 different decks. He didn't really have to keep his own boardstates separate mentally - if he just knows one of his 4 decks has a nykthos or polukranos in play, he just knows that belongs to the monogreen deck
@@CardmarketMagic28:50 Jamin should not have gained 2 life from drawing a card. Sheoldred was no longer on the battlefield Between that and the vigilant Angels, Thoralf knows more about four games of magic while blindfolded than the rest of you guys while looking at the cards 😂
While I think that the Rakdos midrange game was very one sided, and the Rakdos midrange game was kind of a stomp, the RAKDOS MIDRANGE GAME WAS CRAZY. Pro tour level play on that game. The Rakdos midrange was also super fun to watch
Holy hell, I can’t even imagine the mental aptitude one must have to pull this off as well as Thoralf did. Memorization skills are off the charts! Mad respect! And great video!
Karl, Thoralf and Jamin are one of those perfect trios that you just can't stop watching. They play off each other SO well XD We've had plenty with guests, but would love to see a three-player commander duel sometime! Probably a really easy video to make, and just listening to you guys banter with each other without losing one to Magic's 1v1 format would be such a blast. Thanks for the videos, keep it up!!
It probably doesnt help that David Copperfield was a famous Magician in the nineties in Germany, and thats how many Germans learned/heard the word copper for the first time
I'm loving these videos with some of the general people around the office. It's such a neat community that you have that you can just grab the legal advisor to play a game of magic on camera.
31:39 That was insane. I was looking at the board going, “Silly, he has 2 creatures just attack in and murder!” And then he activated Mutavault! I know he was probably thinking there was a construct there but still… he was right 😂
Everyone in the video was amazing, but I have to give special props to the wheeled chair who is quickly becoming my new favourite regular guest on the channel.
Loved the chaos of this!!! Especially the fact the board states for Rakdos were sliiiightly different each time at some points and the confusion that caused yet the amazing overcoming of that by Thoralf:)
Really like that the thumbnail for the vid is just the same shot taken from 4 angles and composited together with the blur. Mad props to the artist on that one!
28:45 Jamin draws and heals 2 even though his Sheoldred isn't around any more. Just because Karl can't see your life total doesn't mean you can fudge it!
Julia saying "I play a land" every turn made me cry for Thoralf every time. He has no idea which lands she played. Also, technically, Sheoldred being an invalid target for Lay Down Arms means that it couldn't be legally cast and the game should be reset to its last valid boardstate (the lands should have been untapped and the spell back to Thoralf's hand)
No you normally cannot target the sheoldred here with lay down arms, but this is not a normal game and we had to bend the rules for the challenge. Thoralf went in aware that if ever he targeted a creature that was not there or something similar, the spell would just fizzle
You can see the cognitive load increasing card by card! Is it harder to play against 4 different decks which would have wildly different board states, or like this, with confusingly similar boards? Honestly, I don't think many could have gone 3-4 there.
A fun way to alter this, if it's ever done again, would be to give Thoralf an "ability", plus a restriction. Once per turn, he can ask a yes/no question about the board state (or about what happened last turn). But the price is that if he performs 10 illegal actions in a game, he loses that game. (Illegal spells would still fizzle.) Also, since the opponents were usually just saying "I tap 2 to play [card]" (not indicating which lands), it would be pretty fair to get a free ask of which lands the opponent has untapped. If we want it to be tricky, too, he could request either the amount of mana available or request which colors are available. I do look forward to seeing more games like this, it's a good time!
This might be the greatest combination of pure fun, zanity and honestly impressive gameplay skills that I have ever seen. I have been so excited for this video to drop ever since you hinted at it in the behind the scenes video. And this was honestly so fun and mad props to Thoralf.
Absolutely amazing! The production was surprisingly unchaotic and also the fact that Thoralf not only managed to make sense of what was happening but also did as well as he did was amazing! Well done, as I have come to expect from you crazy, goofy chaps!
I love how, even though your videos are always very wacky and entertaining, they also always take the time to show off your player's skill. Lots of magic channels are either commentary or wacky casual games, and it's nice to have a channel that's aimed a little more to the Spikes.
I feel like this was a clever ruse for Carl to push Thoralf around in a chair a bunch. But seriously tho, Thoralf has a talent of remembering board states like this. Lot to remember, with opponents playing similar archtypes and deck constructions too. I don't think i could ever do this myself without getting confused on who played what. Really fantastic job!

I already commented but it's been a day and I can't stop thinking about this video! Something about playing multiple same decks at the same time really intrigued me and now I desperately want to do this myself. I remember doing some multi-queue in MTGO but then YOU are playing the same deck. But playing 4 different decks against the same architype! That actually looked so fun. I'm curious if you could do a single game completely blindfolded, not even seeing your hand. Just with someone announcing your draws. Maybe the opponent is ear muffed so they can't hear the cards. I'm honestly not sure how it would work. Either way, this video was amazing! Thoralf honestly is an amazing player. I NEED MORE!
I'm happy you enjoyed it :) you should definitely try this at home or at your gamestore with friends. The more we've been having a blast with these videos, the more I've been wondering why I wasn't doing this the whole time with my friends before we had cameras pointed at us :D
