BuffDedede No, since we know for a fact that Gamestop employees will take these games home and play with them. Once they are opened, they lose value immediately. You can sell them as Like New, but they are not new. I did have to argue to return one before, but a manager took care of it. It is pretty obvious most of the time anyways, as the cases usually have shelfwear to them.
Chuck The gamer they like to argue, but it's simple just ask them if you can return used games as new and ask why not since it's also brand new, also opened. Then they realize how dumb they sound when you say it
@RedSavage Agreed, I went to buy pokemon ultramoon when it first came out, I couldn't find any ultramoon on the shelf I asked one of the workers if they could check the back for it, they told me they're more than happy to do it, and it was there and we joked about how I got one of the last shipment copies, he told me to come back and have a nice day, no issues, no arguments, happiness everywhere.
Lord Steveo Yep. They've tried to pass off used as new 3 times with me. I REFUSE to buy ANYTHING new from them. I was livid when they handed me an opened game that had a sticker declaring it as "new". I suppose if I put a sticker on a 1.00 bill that says "this is a 100.00 bill" they'd accept this as payment toward one of their "new" games, right? Not a chance. You can label shit as gold but that doesn't make it gold.
Ricardo Contreras yea most of the time i can get em off clean but if its a used game thats been on the shelf for a long time with multiple stickers piled on you cant get em off for shit
Thats a very idiotic comparsion. A condom that has been toyed with has the pontential to give you an std or an unwanted pregnancy. The absolute worst thing that could happen with an unsealed game is that it doesnt work, to which theyd switch it out for you anyway. When you buy a new car, do you think every single option comes with absolutely zero miles on it? No, its allowed to have a few miles on it while still being considered new. Lol its also pretty pathetic that you thought that response was clever, and was in some way "telling them off." The employees aren't a manifestion of the company. Like any other retail employee, they just follow policy. So when you said that, they probably thought you were just some picky dork. Save yourself some face and do what i and everyone else does: ask for a sealed copy, if theyre out, move on to a store that does
This reminds me a couple years ago, I took my brother to go buy a new game at Gamestop. I was expecting a factory sealed game, but then I saw the guy take out the game out of the counter, game out of a paper cd casing, and put it into the game case, and I told my brother, that shit isn't new, and the guy says it is. I told the guy I wasn't having it, but my brother didn't care, so we just took it and left. I don't remember which game it is he bought, but they did not have any "used", and he was desperate to get it; I told him we could go get it somewhere that isn't Gamestop, but because of the point earnings he would get from buying stuff there, he said it was a win-win, so he didn't care. If it were me, I would not even take it, but since then, I haven't bought a single game from Gamestop, though I still go to Gamestop to purchase some action figures that I cannot find at other stores.
Yep, they were doing this like 10 years ago. Once I went into Gamestop back then and got a "NEW" game, saw him open the counter and pull out the disc in the sleeve and grabbed the box...I was done with them. I only shop online now, Amazon.
Feelin' DanDy They've done this to me 3 times. Amazon has better deals on preorders anyhow (for prime members).
I enjoy digital for the convenience (almost all of my review copies are digital), but I'll never stop loving the ability to look at my shelf and see physical copies of games that I love. Sometimes I just sit down and look at the cover art especially with Switch games that usually have two different cover arts.
Never buy digital if you don't have to. Physical games can be traded and lent to others. Can be sold etc. Digital that's it. You are stuck with the game.
Man I hate this so much. Any time I want a new game they seem to only have the one copy that is opened. I ask for a new copy and they say "this IS new".. Well it doesn't have the plastic and I know you guys are allowed to take them home and play, so don't try to act like it is guaranteed new, and I want it sealed anyways. Most recently I got darksiders warmastered edition. Nobody else had it so I didn't have much choice.. I've heard people say they got "New" copies before as well and the codes were used..
Wow... I've never had a code that was used, but you can be sure that it was one of the employees that used it. GameStop continues to be the worst place to buy games. What happened to "Power to the Players"?
Jennifer Baker Mostly everything you just said is false about the employees borrowing the games. I work for GameStop and I hope it crashes and burns and goes out of business too. I'm only a Game Advisor but employees are only allowed to borrow one game for 3 days if it's longer than 3 days it is considered stealing from the store, it HAS to be pre owned not new (if you are borrowing new games it's a first and final write up) and there has to be at least 3 pre owned copies of the game just in case a customer wants to buy it so you don't have the one and only pre owned copy. We have to open one of the brand new games to display it on the floor because I hear so many customers on a daily basis in the store going "well I don't see the game so they must not have it" and then I approach them and ask them what they are looking for and when they tell me I tell them it's behind the counter and then they say "oh well I thought that if the game isn't out here then that means you are out, you should really have the case out here". I like my games sealed too personally, if it isn't sealed I just don't buy it. If the code has been used and it was new then you need to call GameStop and get whichever employee used it into trouble and fired, we have cameras all over the store that not only video record what's going on 24/7 but also records audio.
Anissa I don't see how this makes what I said false. I know a case should be out, but like I said, half the time when I want to buy a certain game, they only have that one copy left when I ask for a sealed one. Also, just because that is technically the policy, that only pre-owned can be taken home, doesn't mean it's always followed, as I'm sure many employees would agree. And yes of course you would report them if the code was used, but it just further proves that a "new" copy that is opened, isn't always new. And sometimes I just want a game for my collection and probably won't play it, so I'd rather have a sealed copy sitting on the shelf in those cases.
Goodfellah Gamer No I'm saying she's wrong because she said we are allowed to take new copies of games home. Or at least the "gut" copies of games. I don't agree with gutting games and selling them as new but I do it because it's what we have to do its corporate policy and there's nothing we can do about it.
Jennifer Baker Maybe because you said employees are "Allowed" to take home the "gut" copies of games when we are only allowed pre owned copies. And of course there are going to be people that don't follow policy...that's in every job. Not everyone in every job follows policy that's kind of how it works. That's why I said your wrong. Your argument was "don't tell me it's new when you are allowed to take it home and play it". That's the thing, we aren't. I don't agree with copies being opened and sold as new when they clearly aren't new I believe that's a bad selling practice but there's nothing I can do about it. Corporate does whatever the hell it feels like doing.
They've done this to me 3 times. You can label shit as gold but that doesn't make it gold.
i know the feeling i literally went to a far away gamestop to get a "new" copy because mine didnt have new only to find it had no wrap and a sticker saying new on it i bought it because i had someone drive me there and it would have been a waste of a trip if i left with nothing
No bro this is not a small thing, I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU!!!!! If you are gonna sell it as new, it should be FACTORY SEALED!! When it is opened it is tainted; tainted by someone else’s possibly grubby fingerprints being on my so called new disc. And the paperwork inside could now be wrinkled and show prints all over them. I absolutely despise how GS gets away with this and doesn’t think there is anything wrong with claiming it’s new after they opened it. AND as u said, u cant return it because they will say u opened it. Gamestop is so effing stupid! Good video bro!!
llamapi3 I work evenings at gamestop. We're allowed to check out new games. Hell, we're allowed to take sealed games too as long as a manager opens it first
I also used to work there, I can confirm we're only permitted to take USED games home: not mint copies. Even then, there's a lot of paperwork to fill out first.
@@whocares3701 jesus someone's salty. They literally only said that the employee was breaching code, maybe you should take a breather before you have a stroke
.I remember when I was buying my first PS4 game on its release date. They told me that they had one more copy left, but its on the wall. So I said, okay sure. Now I thought the game was on the rack, new and unopened. But nope, it was opened and I was forced to take that home. I know in stores like Sephora, if you buy a Cologne and use it and don't like it, you can return it for a FULL refund or store credit past 30 days. GameStop, should categorize "New but Opened" games at a 10-20% discount. It would drive more business to them and we wouldn't feel cheated as consumers.
IISourAyyII I am not at all defending GameStop, fuck those guys. But no one forced you. The rest of the argument is just you regarding the decisions you made. No one put a gun on ya, and made you pull out your wallet while GameStop just watched and smiled at you Go digital, or go to Best buy I'm sorry, but this is just a dumb excuse and I didn't want to be toxic about it.
Also, they'll never do something like that 'new but opened' thing because then i'd safely say the majority of consumers would opt for that. Plus it's pretty crazy to think that it's worth 20% of a new games value opening the box alone..
Alex7henry They're not saying it's worth 20% _of the value_ of a new game, they're saying it's worth at least 10-20% less than new which I think is fair.
Opening the box to a game and setting it on the display is like a department store putting brand new shoes on display for people to touch and try on a million times, and guess what, all display items or floor models are usually heavily discounted, we are talking about 30-50% in some instances. I guess you don't mind filthy hands on your "new" games.
I went last week to buy a new switch game and the guy was looking for the case. They open them to put the case on display. They tried to sell me that after as new. It pissed me off so didnt buy it. They should not be allowed soonnas cracked open that is a used game in my book its technically tampered with
Omar nieves same thing happened to me i bought gear club which was horrible, but it wasn’t even sealed it had a clear circle sticker on the side like he just patched it there and said it was new then when i went to return they don’t return new games but they’ll give me 15$ for it after i paid 40 yesterday
I hate how my girlfriend went to go buy me Battlefront 2 for Christmas and she told me they wouldn’t leave her alone for a used copy and she wanted a new one. So I missed out on that new case experience and it haunts me😤
If the game is used then I can understand why it would be opened, but don't open merchandise to use for the display and expect to get the full retail price. If the game is opened it's no longer new. One time I was at a Gamestop to buy Dead Space, which I had really been looking forward to. I asked if they had the game new to which the answer was yes, so I then requested to buy it. However when they brought the game up they brought up an open game case and put the disk in. I quickly pointed out that I wanted a new copy of the game, to which they replied that the open copy was in fact new and unused and still proceeded to try to sell me the game. They did not convince me and I walked out soon after to buy the game elsewhere. I haven't bought a new game from Gamestop since that incident. If I'm paying full price for something, then I better get all the perks for it, which include taking off the factory-applied shrink wrap.
Dude they tried to do that to me with nier automata I was triggered I was like how can I take your word if it’s new?? And they had no answer for me like wtf great vid tho bro keep it up
Dude same, they had a really good sale on Nier automata so I didn't pay much attention to it. But it still really bothered me with why it wasn't sealed.
Former gamestop employee here. It's because there is an employee rental system, so if I want to play monster Hunter world or something, they'll give me a new copy to take home and play and when I bring it back they'll resell the "new" copy. The other reason is more simple, if there's only 1 copy of a new game left they gut it to be able to display the case. Those ones have never been played though. So yeah, hope that helped.
CrushingZero Da Afro Hero that is correct, hence the quoatation marks around the word new. Gamestop sounded like a dream job but after working there for 9 months I hated the job. Game Stop never seemed to care about the customer, just the wallet they carry.
It's not just Gamestop. A lot of retail stores and general people don't understand that something that was removed from its shrinkwrap is not brand new. I bought a DS game from Gamestop with the "new" sticker on it and he ended up giving me a sealed copy. Some people understand. Other times, this isn't the case. I remember buying Wii U game from a local store that has an ebay page. The game was listed as brand new. I receive the game in the mail. It has discount stickers plastered over it, it was not sealed and the disc had fingerprints. When I asked to return, the replies were argumentative. This person was devoutly claiming it was brand new. I asked how. They said it had never been used... Bullshit. How am I supposed to know and trust that the game was unused if it was opened?? Fine. Say it's brand new when it has no seal. Say it's brand new when it has stickers all over the front of the case. But how can you claim a game was unused when fingerprints are visible on the bottom of the disc? This bullshit needs to stop.
I used to work at GameStop and I know the whole open a new game so you have a display case. I thought it was unfair to have someone buy that display version as new but I also understood it too. I think the solution to those ones is if it’s the last one and on display then it should be discounted. If you buy a display model at another store like a tv normally it’s discounted so like I said discount it a bit. Also maybe be more open with the return or exchange policy on it. That is my thought on it.
So when you open a new game, they can't accept your return because it is open, therefore no longer new. When they open a new game and sell it to you, it is somehow still new. Seems legit.
I have to see my games with shrink wrap on new or else I want to know why there's none!? Pre-owned of course u get the best u can, but new it should be sealed. Hey anyone old enough to remember getting manuals in new games?! New manual smell was awesome! Now we get a FLIMSY LEAFLET for microtransactions, DLC etc if anything!!? I don't buy games at launch I wait until they are cheaper and I buy new then otherwise I couldn't afford, I'm just funny about not buying pre-owned if possible as I to enjoy the new game unwrapping. digital u don't have to think of new or pre-owned.
Gareth OMG odds on that eh mate..? A Villa fan!? I'm a blue nose!!!😂👌🏻😂. Awesome. So what game were u on about by the way getting hyped for? I remember Super Mario 2 vividly as my mom was waiting at the school gated with it at 3.30 and I was so hyped when the bell rang I sprinted out class! And spent ages reading the manual and looking at art illustrations before I even put the game in my console
Mark Wheeler haha mad that, hope you’s manage to stay up don’t deserve to go down. Every game I got as a kid, parents would finish their shopping I’d have my nose in the manual, remember the first ratchet and clank in 02 vividly, just not the same anymore
Studio Papa Yeah I know Sony stopped doing manuals in games a bit after PS3 launch... all PS2 games had manuals and the occasional PS3 game as well... and yeah of course Nintendo and Sega games did... not sure about Xbox was never an owner... but yeah I sure do miss the "complete" game case with the awesome new game smell, lol
This is one of the biggest reasons I never shop at gamestop anymore, I haven't given them any business in 4 years and tell all my friends to never shop there anymore either, they are nothing but crooks and bullshiters that need to go out of business and I'll lmao the day it happens. It's complete bullshit they sell opened games as new, and the same thing happened to me 4 years ago and has turned me off to them since, they could easily be taking/forgeting offers, day one content codes, instructions or other things that comes in the games box, scratches on the disks, or selling you actual pre-owned copies, like you said even the game box itself might be missing, and you won't know most of this till you got home and played the game itself, and by then your fucked with their bullshit return policy. I get they need a display box but there is no reason the customer has to take the loss on a gutted game and not the company, fuck them and their bullshit business practices, a copy of the cover on the shelf works just as easily too and dosn't fuck over customers for no reason.
I completely agree! Plus there is literally no reason to shop there considering almost every retailer has a better discount card and also usually better sales.
Worse part is when it's gutted on the shelf other customers could just steal the dlc codes/offers from inside the box on the shelf and know one would even know or care and only the person that's actually buying the actual game would and gets screwed. The whole practice is completely unfair to all the customers paying full price for games.
I worked in a few places that sell games, games are taken out of the box and put into sleeves so the empty boxes can be places on the shelves safely without theft. If someone pre-orders they were kept sealed and placed on a shelf behind the counter for the customer.
I used to work at GameStop as an assistant manager and many customers complained about this very thing which has been ongoing for years. I completely agree with you and all the customers but my store manager would tell me to tell them that “it’s brand new because it’s never been played”. I hated doing this thus why never lasted at GameStop that long. I’m surprised nobody could step in and do something about this unethical and illegal business practice.
When my bud worked for Gamestop, one of the perks he got working there was he could bring home any game he wanted, new releases and such sometimes a couple days early, play it and bring it back and they sell it as new D: like checking out library books. And it happened all the time.
What happens when the 4 copies of cover art they send you is sold because it's the 4th shipment that's sold out. don't act like this hurts someone. Besides if they truely wanted a sealed copy we could then have a store send a copy to the store and have the customer wait to smell mexico.
I feel you dude. They sold me a copy of Sonic Forces, and it wasn’t wrapped. I told him “Hey, that’s not new”. And he said “No one’s played it, so it’s new”. That really pissed me off. If you get a game from BestBuy, it will be wrapped. If you order a new game from Amazon, it will most likely be wrapped, unless the seller is a scammer. Get a new game from Target, it will be WRAPPED! The thing is, I had to pay full price for it, $39.99.
I bought a switch game as "new" in store and the worker grabbed a used game, put it in the case, and put this clear sticker over where you open it THAT ISNT NEW. The game was supposed to have a manual, and it obviously didn't. Fucking ridiculous. Last time I will shop there
Psychotron they keep new games in the drawer. And actually MOST switch games DONT have a manual. The worker grabbed the NEW game from the drawer and had to do that to the case because it was the last new copy
ok kevin and kisette ...wether or not the game comes with a maneal is besides the point the fast is this erson bought a NEW game ...and it had to take a loos game and put it in the box and thow a sticker on it ....im sorry maybe thats acceptible for yous but new means NEW in box sealed and never open....you would buy a new car that had 500 miles on it and the guy said it was just used a few times to test drive here a sticker that sas new on it ....if it dosent have the plastic celafain wraper on it then it is not new ...
Lisette ... Wasn't Switch, but I have had them put a used game in the slip. Got it home and when it wouldn't play I found little scratches on it. I had to argue about it, then they sent me to another store because they didn't have an actual new copy of the game.
Happens in the UK with the national chain Game. They always remove the factory seal and place stickers on. Preowned games are also getting damaged with the stickers they put on as it’s deforming the clear plastic
no i 100% aggree it should be seeled i cant stand u selling me "new" but its open.... if i went anywhere else and it was open well then its no longer new now is it
As a former GS employee, not only are they open but the company policy allows employees to borrow new games. Our store didn’t allow us to because my boss thought it was wrong but the policy does allow for it.
I had this happen to me when I bought a Nintendo switch game it' was already open i had to go to another GameStop which had a copy but it was already open my local GameStop didn't even have my pre-order know how you feel man
If it was 2 days past the release date that is your fault they only guarantee your copy for 48 hours but if it was release date then the employees fucked up and didn't put back the preordered copies to hold them.
TRBroo bro it was release date I went to my local GameStop they didn't have my copy I had to go to another GameStop to get it and when I arrived there the game was already open no seal the guy was like oh you the only one who pre-ordered it I was like that shouldn't matter I should have my game in my hand on release date
TRBrooks27 oh man don't let me get started with the customer service customer service is horrible they're really rude and they try to rush you off the phone really quick
When I went to GameStop on Black Friday, some dad bought a new game for his son Christmas but they gave him a display open one. They told him it was same as new and also a gave him the plastic sleeve for him to seal it if he wanted to.
The packaging you are talking about is corrugated adhesive sandwich cardboard. Alot of warehouse operations use it because it's obviously a cheap way to ship. I had a Ebay seller use it to ship a vinyl record! It came with a huge dent in the jacket. They did give me a partial refund. I told them how to ship(I am sure not the only one) vinyl and surprisingly they implemented it and my next shipment came in great condition
I thought they only did this to me! I went in a while ago first time ever. They have a copy of wolfenstein and the old blood 15$ NEW. I'm like cool then he gets a envelope nd disc out I'm like wtf it says new he says it's new but last copy so its on the shelf. Won't buy there again
FANTAVISION that's what I usually do since Wal-Mart just down the street. My gf was at the mall and bought me some games which I won't complain about but said new this is what I got tinypic.com/r/2hqqahk/9 At least they tried I guess
sguzman116 dude I got myself wolfenstein 2 collectors edition and the box was super wrinkly and it was opened! It had nothing to seal off the slide cover with the box but that was also the last collectors edition they had in the store and it was also the last collectors edition in my town. I managed to talk the employee into discounting it so I got it for 30 but it’s still super annoying because when I said I wanted a new copy I did not want a wrinkled copy. That basically kills the value of the collectors edition as well.
I remember the first time I encountered this stupid policy. It was YEARS ago and I wanted to get my friend a new copy of DKC Returns. So I walk into GameStop, get my 30 bucks ready and then when I looked up I saw the guy reach into a drawer and pull out a game in a sleeve and an empty case. I asked again for a new game, not an opened one. He said it was new, that how it was marked. I asked if it was new, how did I know if the game wasn't actually played or that I'm getting all the manual and inserts or if the Club Nintendo code had been redeemed. I asked why they were selling me a product with this sort of uncertainty as new when I could go to the Walmart a block away and find the game sealed. They had no answer for me except "That's just the way we do it". I respond "Thanks but this is a birthday present. I don't want to deceive my bud into thinking this is new when clearly it's been opened and isn't. Thanks". I took my money and put it back in my wallet and left for Wal-Mart where, low and behold, was a copy that was advertised as new and was completely sealed. That GameStop is now gone.
I went to buy a new Xbox controller at my local gamestop and I asked the employee to grab the ( grey and blue) gears 4 controller. And he stopped me and suggested " hey.. we got some right behind me that are, albeit used, are only $54.99. " I looked at him and said " umm.. well.. the display box displays for the same controller that reads " New "says $54.99 as well. So.. I think I'll just go ahead and get a new one ?" It was at that moment I finally decided to NOT shop at gamestop again. That was some shady shit. And the funniest part about it was.. the used controlers on the wall behind the reg, are fucking packaged in what looked like a goddamn fancy sandwich bag.
As a person who currently works at GameStop and has to deal with this, please go easy on me. I totally agree with every customer that this is complete bullshit and I hate having to do it, but I've been threatened to be fired over raising concerns about this. Trying to get another job but haven't been able to land anything yet. Either way, I'm really sorry, please yell at the store owner and not me
Someone recently went to Gamestop and bought me a PS4 game and it was so sweet of them because they really don't understand video games at all, I felt heartbroken realizing that the copy the store sold them was used, and my friend thought it was new. I couldn't even tell my friend, it made me so mad.
They just sold me call of duty and when I got home it was used. When I called them they said it was gutted (employees take home copy). Same day game won’t load and it has a hair pin scratch. It was in weird plastic protection.
I used to work at the UK version of Gamestop. We did open one copy of every game because we have to have one genuine box out on the store shelf. If we sell the last copy, we sold it in the opened box that's out on the shop floor. We did use the sticky thing that the video creator mentions, and for the most part he's absolutely right.
I bought Splatoon 2 (opened box) for 70€ from GameStop. (Because I returned 40€+ worth of games there) In a nearby shop, Splatoon 2 was sealed and only 50€.
Recently bought a "new" switch game from my local gamestop. Asked the guy behind the counter for resident evil. He said okay this is the last one and walked over to the used games cabinet and pulled out a cartridge. Put it in an open box with a "new" sticker on it and charged me full price for it. I didnt want to search for the game elsewhere so I just paid the extra and left. Do you know what was under that "new" sticker? Another sticker that said "pre-owned." Well... at least the dlc code worked.
i went to Gamestop to get Dark Souls 3 a few months ago and i asked for it new and they gave me a used dark souls 3 with a sticker sealing it and they told me it was new but opened cus they were using it "on display" or some crap. I ended up paying full price for it and the disc was ok but there was some prints on it......complete bs
I live in Scotland and have our version of Gamestop called Game that as far as I know are owned by the same company. They also try to sell opened games as new and have the plastic sealed on a pre owned game which if broken you're unable to get a refund or exchange.
I hate this, the worst part was when I called a GameStop an hour away, and they said they had a special edition game I was looking for. I drove there, and it was just the opened game with none of the bonus material. I asked where it was and the manager told me that when they opened the game and game the "Bonus" items to employees because they were just for pre-orders. I asked her why they were still selling it at the special edition price, and she said because it was the Special edition disc. I was ticked.
when i bought a "new" luigis mansion dark moon from gamestop it was open already... this was right when it came out too, so i paid full price for a used game they didnt even bother to delete the save files, i had to do that myself
I refunded a new opened game once with some verbal dojo. I could prove that it was opened by them, because the "new game" sticker was on the case itself. Of course they tried to tell me that they can't refund new opened games. So I replied, "you can clearly see that this was already opened by you guys before I bought it. But if it makes you feel better I can tell you I never opened it". And that was the end of that.
Last game I bought from Gamestop online was The Legend of Zelda The Windwaker for the Gamecube.I paid 39 dollars with shipping included and the game disc arrived in a generic case,no cover art or manual. The actual game disc had some sort of discoloration on the inside center of disc that looked like dirt or something.Worst part was it did not work at all😧 Never again I tell you.
Ive noticed this too... They put it as new even though its been opened and the games THEY have them behind the counter. and they still charge you a couple dollars more because its "NEW"
I ran into this same problem just yesterday. I was at a local Gamestop and picked out a game from their "new" PS4 section and took it to the counter to purchase. The game was A Way Out and he took a disk and placed it in the box. I told him I wanted it new not used. The counter person told me it was new. I said where is the shrink wrap? I mean come on A Way Out hasn't even been out that long and they had no sealed copies. If it's not sealed it's used, right? After selecting The Last Guardian and Game of Thrones Season 1 from the new section and being met with the same opened bullshit, I just walked out and went to Walmart.
at my work, we have a policy that once the game is opened, we dont refund it (unless its faulty ofc). they can trade it in if they wish but they wont get their full money back.
They've always sold games without the plastic as long as I can remember here. They keep all the discs in their drawer. I didn't even know games were supposed to come wrapped until I started buying online
What's insane is that you can't exchange an unopened game you got as a gift for credit for another game. They tell you to open the game so that they can process it as a trade in. Also I love the guys hat, does anyone know where I can get one?
Just happened to me. Went to buy yoshi crafted new. They got a game out of the used drawer and grabbed a case on the wall. Then tried to charge me new. I said that's not new. Employee said it was new. I asked him how am I supposed to know that? So I said I'm going to Walmart across the street and got a new sealed copy.
I literally just went to gamestop and bought bauenetta 2 and they had it as new and i wasnt looking and stuck a opened copy with a sticker keeping it shut. Drove half way home and realized what happened and took it back for a refund. And went to bestbuy
Years ago I ordered a new tales of the abyss on game stop, because it was not available at any store in my area. When I went to game stop they told me the case was stolen, they didn't offer me a discount. I wanted it so bad I took it even though it wasn't new anymore and why would they put a game that was ordered online and shipped on the sales rack when they didn't have any copies in the store. Its kinda weird how someone could steal a game case with 3 employees talking to each other next to the door, so I think they lied to me. I don't like seeing the gamestop cover and case they gave me next to my other games.
Idk why I assumed the games where in the little drawers and envelopes cause they were preventing people from walking out with a copy of a game. But I guess they could literally just put sealed copies of the games in the drawer. It always seemed like when I went in and bought a game. And took the case off the shelf they were always pulling the game out of the drawer. I can’t remember if I got any sealed or not.
This happened to me this past Christmas I asked specifically for uncharted 4 “ new sealed” and they actually pulled one out in what appeared to be “new sealed” I get home open it and notice the case does not by all means looks new it was definitely opened and used as a display case with scratches etc. Like you mentioned, the disk may be “new” but they legit con me with the “new sealed” copy of uncharted 4. Was not happy once I figured it out but fuck it the disk is technically “new” but I too want my game to be factory sealed. Probably won’t buy another thing from GameStop. I knew I couldn’t be the only one who felt this way, great video btw!
I got a pre-owned version of left 4 dead and I looked at the disk, and It had brown specs on the front. It worked for 16 days, but every time on my Xbox one it would say check to see if the disc is dirty.
I know I'm late but on the launch day of the N.Sane Trilogy I prefer ordered and got my Aku Aku Keychain ,but I was given a broken box with a new disc on launch day and I had to ask for a brand new case before I left
I bought a “new” game at GameStop tried to return it because it was not factory sealed but they said I might have used the dlc code although I only left the store for ten minutes but they would not give me my money back. Plus the game did not have a dlc code! Eventually they did refund it but they said I could never return ANYTHING AGAIN!!! I would let this slide and go somewhere else but my sister bought me a game and she paid for it new and it was used and I never touched but I could not return it.
Happened to me yesterday. I said “don’t you have one sealed?” And they said “No, this was gutted so we can have a display for it”… I proceeded to walk out without the game. See what I feel like GameStop can get away with is selling a used game as new so that they can profit 100% of the full retail cost. The game I tried to get had residue of the stupid seal sticker they used, meaning that that game was once sold already. BS from GameStop!!! I hope they don’t live long enough to see the year 2024
The sales girl was talking my ear off while I was buying "new" Switch games, so I didn't even notice until I got home. Plus they had these clear stickers she put on them that were impossible to get the goo off of. Shame I don't have many options to shop for games where I'm at.
Hey Fantavision, I bought KH1.5 2.5 on Black Friday...it was the “stores copy” since it was the last one. The box was damaged and who knows if the game was already used...
I bought Call of Duty Black Ops 3 “new” for xbox one at GameStop and the case said that I would receive a code with the DLC 1 pack... well the employee working there took the case off of the shelf where they have display cases, went behind the counter, turned around and opened the drawers where they keep used games, pulled out a yellow sleeve of BO3, I paid anyways cuz its just a game, and the employee handed me the receipt and on the receipt said Call of Duty Black Ops 3 Xbox One New. That game was not new. -_- But there was a code in the display box but the employee gave me a code for the dlc 1 on the receipt... Weird but okay I guess? But the code inside the display box was already redeemed.. I guess gamestop has a different view of “New” games...
i just got Zero Dawn complete edition *NEW* from gamestop about a week ago. it was open.. with DLC codes in it. the case was sitting out on the wall of games. anyone could have taken the DLC from it or taken a picture of the code. when i confronted the employee she said "we needed a gutted copy"
I bought gta5 “NEW” from GameStop for my cousins and they gave me the display case, case with a “NEW” disc... and I legit told them “What?!” And he told me the disc was never used... but honestly I’m not complaining because the game was on sale for $24.99 “NEW” when the “pre-owned” gta5 Games where still around $60...
Yeah I never understood why they didnt just photocopy the front and back coverart on a sealed copy and just make a fake case. We have a place that sells books and all sort of games and comics and nerd stuff called 2nd and Charles and they do that for their small new games (or they keep em behind the jewel cases). Or at least my location does.
I definitely agree. It's very annoying that they sell 'new' games that are already open. I've gotten games like that, actually. The most recent one though was Dragon Ball FighterZ. Bought it brand new for $60, even went to the 9PM release since I had it Pre-Ordered. Wasn't exactly new. It was sealed in one of those bags you talked about at 3:35 in the video So they sold me a 'new' used game the night it came out. By the time I noticed that, they were already closed. But it wasn't as bad as it could have been, I guess. The codes that came with it worked and if anything happens to the disk in the future, I have the warranty.
I went to GameStop I bought a game as new and it was opened and the disc was in the envelope. I said can I check the disc for scratches. He said it's new I said but it's opened
This happened to me a few months ago. I bought RE 7 and it wasn't sealed. I didn't bother asking why but I thought it was weird as hell. It just had a giant sticker to keep it shut which I guess in their eyes made it new and sealed? Shady stuff.
That happened at my store where the gutted copy was our only "new” one left and someone stole the case but management would not let me discount or anything at all so I had to give the poor guy a plain black scuffed chipped case for his "brand new” game
I remember when I first bought Donkeykong Country Returns 3D from GameStop and when I saw it was sealed I was like 😱! It was the first time I bought a GameStop game that’s sealed. No stickers, no $29.99 tag on it,no nothing except plastic seal.
I had pre-ordered a game once and went to pick it up on release date. They gave me the display case (opened) with a huge red sticker on the front that said "NEW". The sticker left sticky gunk on the cover that was impossible to get off. I'm like you in that I want my games in pristine condition. That's why I usually pre-order games to get them new or I scavenge around for the best used copies. I don't understand why after all the trouble they give you a horrible used copy. They have even given me used blank cases. The cases they use when someone sold them the game without a case. Ridiculous!
This is one of the big reasons why I welcome digital distribution. Since I built my gaming PC, it's treated me well for the most part despite all the noise about DRM and the like. on Steam. You can even sell your unused keys on sites like g2a or get refunds from Steam up to a certain amount of time. Yeah, missing out on opening that new case sucks but on the flip-side, the biggest releases tend to have collector's editions for PC as well so you still get the experience of holding on to the physical game.
as a collector and frequent online buyer that is easily one of my biggest pet peeves, people who dont seem to understand the concept of "new". New means it is factory sealed. not 3rd party sealed. not "ive never used the disk". not "i installed it and played it once". as soon as that cellophane comes off it is no longer new. it is used. plain and simple. also Best Buy Gamers Club Unlocked 4 LIFE.
Not all games come sealed to GameStop or any other retailer. Also, opening a game to DISPLAY stock on hand doesn't mean it's used especially when they place it into a cd sleeve! Some places are forced to do this as there is no proper display case/box to use to sell their product. Having it sealed on the wall will most likely lead to theft.
It isn't just a display though. You ever wonder why there are more than one? It isn't to have more than one out there, it is because employees get to basically rent new games for free when they come out. Then they bring it back and add it to the wall stock. I NEVER buy a wall copy. The employees at my gamestop know that when I ask if they have a new copy of a game to just say, nope, all we got is the wall copy.
“I want to be able to open it and smell Mexico” cracked me up. I agree 100%.
Hecho en Mexiiiicoooo!
Haha glad to hear you agree!
I’m dead lmao but fukin true I love that smell too lol
Lol nice all racist Trump supports coming out in to the light lmao what time is clan meeting
Hola DEA
I stopped buying from gamestop years ago when they tried to scam me by selling me a used game at new price. If its open, it's not new.
njwillette exactly if you take the rapper off they won't take it back as new it's used
I stopped too when they tried doing this to me with a pre-order.
njwillette actually it is,
BuffDedede No, since we know for a fact that Gamestop employees will take these games home and play with them.
Then they realize how dumb they sound when you say it
Just go to Best Buy. They’re gamers club is much better and they won’t cheat you
Exactly! Best Buy is my go to place now for games and game accessories. Their point system is a lot better too.
RadSavage
YES, Best Buy Gamers Club pays for itself, I saved $300 in a few months of buying games, and it discounts on NEW games.
Did the exact same around Christmas last year never looked back 💯😊
RadSavage that 20% on gamers club is awesome....
And they put stickers on everything
Lord Steveo Yep. They've tried to pass off used as new 3 times with me. I REFUSE to buy ANYTHING new from them. I was livid when they handed me an opened game that had a sticker declaring it as "new". I suppose if I put a sticker on a 1.00 bill that says "this is a 100.00 bill" they'd accept this as payment toward one of their "new" games, right?
Not a chance.
You can label shit as gold but that doesn't make it gold.
Lord Steveo nice pic
Donald Trump haha yea
there's a way to take them off clean but you shouldn't have to put in that much work
Ricardo Contreras yea most of the time i can get em off clean but if its a used game thats been on the shelf for a long time with multiple stickers piled on you cant get em off for shit
Oh I've given gamestop a piece of my mind. Told them "so would you buy a condom that's opened as *new?*"
Hahaha XD that's freaking great!
adyingshadow what did they answer?
yugi muto Problably: "ehm, yes, why?"
Save yourself some face and do what i and everyone else does: ask for a sealed copy, if theyre out, move on to a store that does
Lisette Perez agree
Feelin' DanDy yet people on fb trashed me for it
There is a lot of dumb people out there, not surprising lol
If they only have 1 copy left new and it’s basically taken it of shelf I don’t buy it I said never mind I’ll go to another store
Feelin' DanDy They've done this to me 3 times. I REFUSE to buy ANYTHING new from them. I was livid when they handed me an opened game that had a sticker declaring it as "new". Amazon has better deals on preorders anyhow (for prime members).
Smooth Steve that suits them. They make way more profit on used games.
Amazon and bestbuy is way better haven't shopped at gamestop since 2005.
If you can find something the same price that it is on amazon. Don’t by it from amazon lol. That dick head Jeff bezos doesn’t need our money.
@@planstoesc2 you realize amazon isnt the seller they are an electronic mall.
ive stopped buying physical copies for years, but i agree. it needs that shrink wrap on it
I enjoy digital for the convenience (almost all of my review copies are digital), but I'll never stop loving the ability to look at my shelf and see physical copies of games that I love. Sometimes I just sit down and look at the cover art especially with Switch games that usually have two different cover arts.
Never buy digital if you don't have to. Physical games can be traded and lent to others. Can be sold etc. Digital that's it. You are stuck with the game.
Double D yes stuck with it until the accounts banned
My games always have shrink wrap when there new
me to one way kill more people get a job.
You can label shit as gold but that doesn't make it gold.
i know the feeling i literally went to a far away gamestop to get a "new" copy because mine didnt have new only to find it had no wrap and a sticker saying new on it i bought it because i had someone drive me there and it would have been a waste of a trip if i left with nothing
It absolutely is not a tiny deal, new games are expensive, there's no reason to do this
Like the last "display" copy they always sell as new, but in reality it's actually the one employees use. -___-
llamapi3 I work evenings at gamestop. We're allowed to check out new games. Hell, we're allowed to take sealed games too as long as a manager opens it first
Jorge Mayo what's your district leader's name? I'd like to give them a call, since you're breaking company policy.
Naw she tryna snitch
.I remember when I was buying my first PS4 game on its release date.
No one put a gun on ya, and made you pull out your wallet while GameStop just watched and smiled at you
Go digital, or go to Best buy
I'm sorry, but this is just a dumb excuse and I didn't want to be toxic about it.
Miya Yeah I know. I said it’s crazy that people think that opening the box is worth 20% of the product
They should not be allowed soonnas cracked open that is a used game in my book its technically tampered with
Completely agree. Their return policy says no returns on opened new games, yet they open new games all the time. Double standard much?
Omar nieves same thing happened to me i bought gear club which was horrible, but it wasn’t even sealed it had a clear circle sticker on the side like he just patched it there and said it was new then when i went to return they don’t return new games but they’ll give me 15$ for it after i paid 40 yesterday
I hate how my girlfriend went to go buy me Battlefront 2 for Christmas and she told me they wouldn’t leave her alone for a used copy and she wanted a new one. So I missed out on that new case experience and it haunts me😤
Luis Urbina why would you want battlefront 2 at all its a scam
They push used games because all the prophets go to them instead of the developers
The problem was not the store but the game u choose
Luis Urbina i
Did none of you guys understand that my girlfriend went to buy it for me without me knowing
And they had no answer for me like wtf great vid tho bro keep it up
Yeah, it's unacceptable imo. Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
So yeah, hope that helped.
jbl32123 so in other words its not actually new.
CrushingZero Da Afro Hero that is correct, hence the quoatation marks around the word new. Gamestop sounded like a dream job but after working there for 9 months I hated the job. Game Stop never seemed to care about the customer, just the wallet they carry.
5 years later these fools try to do this to me in store and I walked right out. Fuck that
It's not just Gamestop.
Jeff Mcconnell that kind of thing only applies to hardware not software and video games are software.
the solution is sell those open box games as pre-owned games, period.
Fanta quote of the year...i wanna open it and smell Mexico 😂💀
Retro Raptor fanta is from Germany
I remember sitting in the back of the car on the way home after getting a new game and just reading the manual getting hyped af
The new manual smell for my 5 month-opened MSI box is slowly disappearing :(
Studio Papa Yeah I know Sony stopped doing manuals in games a bit after PS3 launch... all PS2 games had manuals and the occasional PS3 game as well... and yeah of course Nintendo and Sega games did... not sure about Xbox was never an owner... but yeah I sure do miss the "complete" game case with the awesome new game smell, lol
Doesn't happen anymore unless it's the display copy.
It's a bunch of people that have to con people or the same handful of people will punish them.
Preowned Resident Evil 1 and 0, for $19.99...Wal-Mart sells it for the same price NEW...where's the logic with gamestop??
GameStop has none and nor do their loyalists lol
I used to work at GameStop as an assistant manager and many customers complained about this very thing which has been ongoing for years. I completely agree with you and all the customers but my store manager would tell me to tell them that “it’s brand new because it’s never been played”. I hated doing this thus why never lasted at GameStop that long. I’m surprised nobody could step in and do something about this unethical and illegal business practice.
Gamestop has been pulling this bullshit FOREVER.
When my bud worked for Gamestop, one of the perks he got working there was he could bring home any game he wanted, new releases and such sometimes a couple days early, play it and bring it back and they sell it as new D: like checking out library books. And it happened all the time.
If you used to work at Gamestop, you would know it's called a gut.
I know exactly what it is, and it's still stupid. Make a fake case like you do with marketing.
FANTAVISION its just as stupid as complaining about shrink wrap.
EntertainmentFortress
Hey! He wants to smell Mexico!!! 😤
What happens when the 4 copies of cover art they send you is sold because it's the 4th shipment that's sold out. don't act like this hurts someone. Besides if they truely wanted a sealed copy we could then have a store send a copy to the store and have the customer wait to smell mexico.
Michael Myers I smell Mexico all the time. It’s two miles south of me lol.
Psychotron ...switch games dont have manuals
Preowned games are also getting damaged with the stickers they put on as it’s deforming the clear plastic
no i 100% aggree it should be seeled i cant stand u selling me "new" but its open.... if i went anywhere else and it was open well then its no longer new now is it
Shouldn't be legal to sell something opened as new. Should be sold as open box like every other store in the world.
What happened to the days of display copies being cheaper?
Don Haze ikr? Heck I remember buying a camera on sale once at Best Buy but it was the display so I got even more knocked off
True, they've been doing this shit for years. I hate them for it.
As a former GS employee, not only are they open but the company policy allows employees to borrow new games. Our store didn’t allow us to because my boss thought it was wrong but the policy does allow for it.
I had this happen to me when I bought a Nintendo switch game it' was already open i had to go to another GameStop which had a copy but it was already open my local GameStop didn't even have my pre-order know how you feel man
Not having your preorder is inexcusable when they constantly shove them down your throat with every transaction
Black Creed.Network oh Yea then that's their damn fault. When a game is preordered even by one person you get at least 2 copies so yea they sucked.
TRBrooks27 oh man don't let me get started with the customer service customer service is horrible they're really rude and they try to rush you off the phone really quick
They sold me yooka laylee like this, and when I wanted to take it back, they almost wouldn’t take it, but said it was a one time thing.
Stop shopping at GameStop holy shit that’s a great idea
When I went to GameStop on Black Friday, some dad bought a new game for his son Christmas but they gave him a display open one. They told him it was same as new and also a gave him the plastic sleeve for him to seal it if he wanted to.
You are correct on everything you said. I applaud you!
Mike C Thanks Mike! Glad to hear you agree! Games feel incomplete physically and in game.
Dislike was for when you worked at Gamestop and left all the scratches disks, dribbled on manuals and dented boxes for everyone else.
Dick move man.
lol I didn't? I was the strictest trade in guy there! If I wouldn't buy it, then it was defective. Dislike for that if anything.
FANTAVISION 2:15
you are right and if you pay for a new game it should not be open
I thought they only did this to me! I went in a while ago first time ever. They have a copy of wolfenstein and the old blood 15$ NEW. I'm like cool then he gets a envelope nd disc out I'm like wtf it says new he says it's new but last copy so its on the shelf. Won't buy there again
Smart choice! Just price match it somewhere else.
FANTAVISION that's what I usually do since Wal-Mart just down the street. My gf was at the mall and bought me some games which I won't complain about but said new this is what I got
tinypic.com/r/2hqqahk/9
At least they tried I guess
sguzman116 They did the same to me......with wolfenstein as well!
sguzman116 dude I got myself wolfenstein 2 collectors edition and the box was super wrinkly and it was opened!
That actually makes sense. A lot of sense.if it’s open and it’s the last copy take at least 10% off.
I looked at him and said " umm.. well.. the display box displays for the same controller that reads " New "says $54.99 as well. So.. I think I'll just go ahead and get a new one ?"
It was at that moment I finally decided to NOT shop at gamestop again.
I was ticked.
when i bought a "new" luigis mansion dark moon from gamestop it was open already... this was right when it came out too, so i paid full price for a used game
they didnt even bother to delete the save files, i had to do that myself
The gamestop i worked at (Finland) used fake cases as display pieces. I never sold a new game as opened. And this was circa 2011
I hope they don’t live long enough to see the year 2024
Ever notice how GS have about 30 "display" copies of every hot new game, all of this explains it all 😭
I don't mind getting used because Blu Ray disc's are much harder to scratch.. Almost always in perfect shape.
I don't go to shitty gamestop though 😂 better off on eBay.
Hey, man I still piss off GameStop selling my Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 Limited Edition.
It was sealed in one of those bags you talked about at 3:35 in the video
So they sold me a 'new' used game the night it came out.
I used to work there too. And our AM would take the disc of the opened games play it through and put it back...
That happened at my store where the gutted copy was our only "new” one left and someone stole the case but management would not let me discount or anything at all so I had to give the poor guy a plain black scuffed chipped case for his "brand new” game
I agree. It’s like if a car salesmen drives a car off of the lot and the say it’s a new car. Once any thing is open it looses value.
Ridiculous!
So apparently a friend of my friend pre-ordered Kingdom Hearts 3 and GameStop didn't have enough copies for that pre-order.
New means it is factory sealed. not 3rd party sealed. not "ive never used the disk". not "i installed it and played it once". as soon as that cellophane comes
off it is no longer new. it is used. plain and simple.
also Best Buy Gamers Club Unlocked 4 LIFE.
