    I think hunting would be a huge market for electric bike and especially swapable batteries, the quietness would be well suited to the job but i think a company would have to lower the price significantly hunters aren’t either willing or able to spend a lot on thing to get to and from a blind/tree stand. One priced around 2-3500 would be perfect

    • @brianmccann666

      Most hunters ride/drive very far away to do their hunting and not risk shoot other people. Most electric EVs can't get the spots on 1 or 2 batteries let alone return back to their gas vehicles. Off-road eats up batteries milage. Add on hills, mountains, etc EVs aren't good for hunting trips.

    • @StardustADV
      @StardustADV 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      totally could work. Just toss the bike in the back of your truck, get to where you want to hunt, then cover ground quicker then you would on foot.

    • @brianmccann666
      @brianmccann666 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@StardustADV ... Most hunters I know drive the trucks to a certain point. Park. Then ride bikes or quads up to 30-40 miles on rough trails, hills, mountains, etc to reach their actual hunting location. Places trucks can't go of course.
      That EV fat wheel won't make those journeys. It will run out battery quickly off-road. Most hunters would need 3-4 batteries or more to transverse the wilderness. Nevermind the added weight returning with Wild Game in tow with the Moose, Hogs, etc will eat up the battery mileage even more.
      It could work for "city hunters" who think going 100 yards off road is a long way...

    Honestly, I'd prefer a TW200 or even a Honda Trail for the purposes they attribute to this bike. Plus, the TW has the advantage of being road legal. It's alot cheaper than $8K and can range a hell of a lot further.
    The fellas did touch breifly on one purpose for the Grunt that they could have spent more time on. It would be terrific for hunting and fishing. They briefly mention it, but think of this. Any offroad oriented TW200 type of bike could do it. BUT...not as quietly as an electric. You'd put out so much less noise with this bike. If I got one, I'd take it to the start of the trail in my truck and from there I'd be almost as quiet as if I was using my mountain bike, but without the pedaling. I live in B.C. so that's normally ALOT of uphill pedaling to get where I go. But on the Grunt it's faster without the energy required for pedaling which saves your legs for spot and stalk hunting once you get to your hunting area. I mainly use my quad for that or mountain bike if I need to be quiet and it's not too far.
    If Volcon was smart, they'd come out with a bike trailer like the one you can get with the Quietkat Ranger electric bicycles. Then a hunter could haul gear in for a spike camp and haul a successful harvest out. A Queitkat can also be pedaled out if it runs out of juice. But they are damned expensive for what they are. Range is a problem with the electrics though. A spare battery for the Grunt is helpful with that, but still, a TW200 will do the same, be road legal, get so much more range and is significantly cheaper. My quad is great and can haul gear and game. But that Volcon could be stealthy. That would be a great selling point to market to hunters and fishers.
    But the lack of range and ability to haul gear and game won't have me trading in my quad for one. I'd get one as a second option to my quad though if it was cheaper than $8K.
    It would also give another meaning to "taking a Grunt in the woods".

      Its honestly the biggest reason they are as bad as they are. 99% of people are not going to spend 13K for a brand new electric sport bike when they could spend like 7k for a decent ICE sport bike. For the love of god they need to stop going after the performance market and go to the casual market. 50 horsepower is just over 37,000 watts. You have a 2,000 watt hour battery. That means it could put out 2,000 watts for 1 hour. 20,000 watts would drain the battery in 6 minutes. 37,000 watts would kill it in just over 3 minutes (and that's if you drained the battery all the way down, which isn't great to do). Of course, no one will ride full power non stop, but hard riding would drain this thin in no time at all.
    It's cool, but that's a very heavy and powerful bike for such a tiny battery. My electric unicycle has about the same sized battery and only weighs 60 pounds.

    • @FlyingFun.
      @FlyingFun. 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, just saved me watching the video lol.
      2000wh is pathetic for a bike like this, I have 1400wh in my electric mountain bike which weighs 35kg, has thinner tyres and pedals to help out, range on that is 50 to 80 miles taking it easy , if I ride faster I can get as little as 25 miles.
      What will.this get I wonder and how hard is it to push because any one who buys it WILL end up with a flat battery.

      @@FlyingFun. - Good mountain boots, a good back pack room for 1 or 2 battery's. And you better be in good shape, or you want make it, at all. I think this bike can set people in really dangerous situations.
      Like you rid into a dessert kind of climate. When the sun goes down it suddenly can get below freezing. And the battery can drop from 50%-0 fast. Same for the extra battery you got with you. So suddenly you have 8-10 hour walk, below freezing temps; instead of the planed 1-2 hour ride home.
      That is not… Oh shit… this is going to be a hard evening. It is more like… am I going to survive this?
      Forget about pushing the bike home, or you will die out there. You can trust a gasoline engine, much more. Battery is not to be trusted. The bikes without a battery, is the once that always work.
      Tips… Even day-trips: take 1-4 boxes of mackerel in tomato… or something similar. Some salt, pepper, spice, chilly sauce, to get it down, if you have to. Most of them are small, and a good boost meal, when dying is not an option. You never know when that can save your life.

    This seems like a cool first generation idea that needs some refinement and price adjustment. It looks like the old Yamaha and Honda 200cc fat tire bikes from the 1980s which were super fun. The weight and price is concerning.... Those need to be lower to really impress. The swappable batteries is an awesome idea but the battering need more "oomph" to be comparable to a Coleman or other ICE style trail bike in terms of range and power. I like the idea of using it for hunting because its so quiet. Out here in California where everything is a mega fire waiting to happen, I like that this would have no hot parts or sparks to worry about (assuming it doesn't pull a Tesla and spontaneously combust...). I love this video precisely because it gets the point of why EVs are misunderstood. They are a superior technology, but the energy density just isn't there to crunch highway miles - highway riding, especially if you want to go up to (and little bit past) the speed of traffic is *extremely* energy intensive. But the other side to that the appropriately sized battery can be charged quickly and you can literally charge them anywhere this is power. Out in the boonies with solar? Can be a problem for gas, but not for EV. For city slickers, the best application is going to be mopeds and scooters. I know it's dorky here, but I have a Burgman 200, but just to have that massive underseat storage where I can fit my backpack, groceries, a couple full faced helmets, that alone is deciding factor between whether I take my Burgman or my Zero: do I have wear a backpack? If yes, I take the Burgman and toss it under the seat instead. If I could have the Burgman in an EV package, that would *perfect* for bopping around town/errands/short commutes. And having swappable batteries is a huge boon for other applications, especially off-road.

      I can't help wondering whether a transmission would help electronic bikes on the highway. The deficits tend to be speed and range, whereas low-speed torque is seldom a problem. Wouldn't this be amenable to gearing up? I wonder whether EMC bike makers are too enamored with the no-transmission model.

    • @jerm1027
      @jerm1027 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jkf9167 Well most bikes do have a single speed transmission - it's a gear reduction, hence the globs of torque. Most motors can spin silly fast, with nearly flat torque curves, and they don't have the same parasitic losses gasoline engines do where the faster they spin the more power they lose to friction. So in most cases, the benefits are insignificant if they're there at all, and if they are, the added weight and complexity of a multi-geared transmission will offset any benefit. In extreme performance applications, there can worthwhile benefits, but for most uses, a single speed is more than sufficient.

    My biggest problem with the dirt content is that I can’t relate to it because I’ve never tried it. And there’s 2 reasons that I almost certainly won’t any time soon: cost and time. Even if there was some sort of class near me that would rent me the gear and bike, it would probably cost at least a few hundred bucks which I’d rather spend on an exhaust, or new bars, or something that I could keep for a long time rather than an experience that only leads to spending more. I’m almost concerned that I would like riding in the dirt because that’s a rabbit hole that would cost thousands of dollars. And for time, I already feel like I don’t ride enough on my street bike so anytime that I have a free day, I’m gonna be doing that.

    Basically any private land, people’s cabins, farms - places like campsites. Also electric- a lot easier to maintain. I don’t understand why they can’t make the battery both - like your bike in the video- 1 can be ( optional) permanently mounted and a spot for a smaller ( quicker charging) swap able- think about having your bike that plugs in at home- but for whatever reason isn’t charged - if you have a 7 lb swap able battery that can charge 20 miles on a house plug.... you charge at your desk, or wherever you go for peace of mind. The future is 80% of the battery on the bike , with a small swap able one for on the go.

    So a battery powered Rokon it is, and that’s okay if you want to buy it. I’d go for an enduro that offers more flexibility and certainty that the manufacturer will still exist in 2 years. Regardless, it’s cool, there was forbidden dirt content on YN, it has VOL in its name, and no Royal Enfield simping today. Good job Spite and Josh.

    50 hp is about 37 kW. 2 kWh battery. If you're pulling max power all the time, that's something like 4 minutes of riding. Of course you're not pulling the max power all the time so maybe something like 12 minutes of riding.

    Easily swappable batteries is really what ev's are lacking. If you could pull your EV into the "power station" and a robot swapped the whole battery, just like a drill, and you were on your way, they would possibly be more viable.
    I wonder how much Volton is going to charge for replacement batteries? Also how long will they even have replacements for sale? The disposeable nature of vehicles these days is pretty rampant, especially with ev's.
